hip hop flop
mortuustuna14 June 2011
This movie completely surpassed my expectations.... as to how bad it would be. I was expecting the terrible acting. I was expecting a nearly non-existent story with more holes than a fine swiss cheese. Unfortunately I was also expecting some jaw-dropping dance moves, which is ultimately the only reason anyone would put themselves through a movie like this. However in this respect the movie totally failed. The dancing is almost completely uninspiring. I have recently been watching the TV show "Americas best dance crew", which is the only reason I watched Beat the World, but in comparison the dancing in the movie is just Lame, with a capital L. I feel violated.

Worst hip-hop dancing movie
alex_igi200014 June 2011
If you thought you are going to be amazed by this movie that followed the first "You got served" -- you're going to be very disappointed. When the first movie appeared, even though it had bad reviews as storyline and / or acting, the dancing was sick, and it was revolutionary. Someone "got served", there were battles, but first of all there were DANCERS. After 7 years in which urban dance evolved incredibly, "Beat the world" comes with an even worse script, no dancing (except for some poppers and lockers), no routines, nothing !!! It just blows … As a professional dancer and choreographer, "You got served" was a key in what street-dancing should look like, and after 7 years the sequel just made my sleepy. Very disappointed.

Out of a very boring and formulated lousy screenplay
rightwingisevil16 June 2011
The Hip-Hot competition did not look like an international one but local event. If it's international, all the countries participated should have their competitions first until the best team won and qualified for the so-called "International" competition. But the so-called "Beat The World International Competition" was nothing but a sort of backstreet event in one of the American city. The participating teams, especially the team from Brazil was so bad and so mediocre that their dancing skill was even worse than their English. There's nothing so international at all, because you could easily tell most of these boys and girls actually lived in America, they just played as foreign young people. The screenplay was so bad that it didn't fall apart from the very beginning because it never solidified at all in the first place. There was no scenario or plot, everything was just so predictable and so deadbeat boring. The so-called competition dancing, the romance, the maverick or the dark horse, the foe or friend, the normal middle class family, the high school drop-out, the misunderstanding, the quarrel, the fights, the cheating, the helplessness...and so on, all the ingredients used in this pathetic movie were old stuff that had already been used maybe thousand times in other crappy movies. There's nothing newer or better than all the movies in the same genre we have already seen before.

Awesome babes...Bad movie
catchmusic7 November 2011
Warning: Spoilers
First of all, I am a big fan of the first You Got Served. Making this movie was the biggest mistake made in this kind of genre. The plot was lousy, the lines were somewhat picked up from a 60's TV show, acting was disgusting although the announcer of the crews did a nice job! About the choreography, I have seen better moves and routines from the show "Britain's got talent" but not to be unfair, there were, here and there, a few awesome moves but generally it was boring to watch. My two-star-rating goes to the beautiful women in the movie as I should have given it a 0. To all of you how have seen the movie and expected better from it...You Got Served!

Horrific
blueree6 September 2012
I just want to begin by stating that I do not understand why this movie is called You Got Served: Beat the World. It pales in comparison to You Got Served and it is a travesty that it will be associated with that film because of the title. I honestly don't understand why it wasn't just titled Beat the World and do not want to take the time to research why. As far as I can tell, just based on what is listed on IMDb, the writer and director of the movie, Robert Adetuyi, was not at all involved with the first You Got Served.

Plot aside, I cannot fathom why after seeing such films as You Got Served, Step Up 2, Step Up 3 and various other dance films, that he would think we would want to see a dance film with this caliber of street dance. The dance moves were very amateurish and slow as if it was trying to be a "how-to" instructional type of video to street dancing.

I played the movie again, fast forwarding through all of the dialogue to the dance scenes to show my best friend, who also commented on how amateurish the moves were, particularly the Brazilian team and the main character for the American team, Yuson.

We then immediately watched Step Up 3 (which she had never seen) and after the very first battle (w/Red Hook) she said, "oh my gosh, this is so decent!" She even commented that the Pirates rehearsal was better than anything she had just seen in Beat the World.

Horror and Sci-Fi are my favorite genres, and I have watched a lot of horror movies that received horrible reviews because I just had to see them for myself considering that I love horror movies. Therefore, if you are an avid dance/musical movie fan, I understand the need to see all dance/musical movies regardless of critics, or public reviews.

Trust me, don't waste your time. Just check out the Prince Mio (Eric) and Stephanie Nguyen (Nina) videos on the internet. I also understand that Stephanie Nguyen was really able to showcase her skills in the films StreetDance 3D and StreetDance 2 which I have yet to see, but hope to.

It's as if Beat the World was released 7 years before You Got Served instead of the other way around. I think it's ridiculous that You Got Served was released in 2004 and Beat the World was released in 2011 but sucks sooo bad.

Trash
mch-770269 February 2022
Don't waste your time on it. Maybe the first "You got served" had a lame story line as well, but the dancing was hot and fresh. Everything about this second one is trash. Don't waste your time.

Great Dancing
clarkj-565-16133622 May 2011
If you like great dancing, then this is a movie for you. Although other dance movies feature local dance competitions, in this movie dancers come from all over the world, not just locally - Berlin Germany, and Rio in Brazil. Some of the moves are incredible, it's hard to believe that the laws of physics are not being broken. The dancers are all amazing, but I think that Stephanie Nguyen really sticks out. Also I like Ray Johnson (Sho Tyme), great sense of humour and of course great sense of taste. It is also very interesting to see how the various crews train, nothing comes without lots of work and of course for the Fusion Crew, it helps that they have their own X-Man coach!

Disappointment YO!
tubkoob3 July 2011
Short summery: Camera guys don't even know to capture the dancers whole body when they're shooting the dance. They keep cutting back and forth from shooting the body at wast up to shooting the face close up. People who watches dance movies wants to watch hand movements and foot work not just stare at faces. The sound tracks suck because they don't even match the events that went on and don't even describe "HIP-HOP". The music didn't even go with any of the dances. It was like doing a free style dancing with mambo music. During the competition in the movie, there were no dance where the dancers actually danced to the music. They were dancing to a separate soundtrack that was filled in. Even the crowd cheering were fake.

Not very good.. :(
satin89200516 September 2011
I would say only one group could actually hold a beat and really dance.. The Asian group. Well I think they were. Anyway if you watch the movie you will know. Needed much more dancing. Good dancing. Not even comparable to the first movie. Or any other dance movie. So don't get your hopes up and don't sit back to be ready to dance with the movie lol. Not good at all.I can't dance myself so who am I to talk but I do know good dancing. But understandble the movie had to be made.Just should have been made properly.Stomp The Yard.. Idlewild..:) .. Dance Flick.. just kidding.. but seriously this movie needed a lot of work. Only cost me 1.50 to buy so its going in my give away stack for the holidays.

Bad Movie, good dancers in real life
litsecret3 August 2011
If I could have given zero stars I would have. I'm glad I used a free rental from Redbox to watch it because I would have wanted my money back. I expected a lot better. Some of the Actors or should I say dancers are really great in there personal video's, on YouTube, in other movies. I had high expectations. But what I got was half @$$ dancing. Bad dialog, and a plot that has been done way too many times. If you though some of the dancers were good or you felt like they were not allowed to show there full potential, then look up some of the names in a video search engine and watch how good they really are. Example Christian " Prince Mio" Loclair , Chase Armitage and his crew 3RUN, or maybe Kristy Flores. Skip the movie watch You Tube.
