This year’s special — which features performances to live music by Heart, opens with “Barracuda” and closes with “Magic Man” — tapes Dec. 16 in Sioux City, Iowa, and airs Dec. 26, at 4 p.m. Et. Boitano will be skating his solo number to “Crazy On You.” (Michael Weiss gets the unplugged version of “Alone.”) Boitano phoned us this afternoon from Atlantic City, where he’s taping another NBC special, A Salute to the Golden...

"Skating With the Stars" is probably not on Brian Boitano's DVR.
"I was able to watch a little bit of it, but it was very uncomfortable," the Olympic figure skating gold medalist tells Zap2it.
On Monday (Dec. 6), ABC premieres the third episode of "Skating With the Stars," in which six celebrities -- now five, since "Blade Runner" star Sean Young was the first celebrity eliminated -- are teamed with pro skating partners to do ice-dance routines in what amounts to an ice-rink version of ABC's hit ballroom-dancing competition "Dancing With the Stars."
"Skating With the Stars" premiered after the blockbuster final performance night of "Dwts" on Nov. 22. But, it has not come close to the ballroom show in the ratings and may not fare any better in the future than its Fox predecessor, "Skating With Celebrities," which had a short run in 2006.

It's not New Year's Day without a Brian Boitano Skating Spectacular. This year's, which airs at 4 p.m. Et today on NBC, features the '88 Olympic gold medalist and current host of the Food Network's What Would Brian Boitano Make? performing — along with Michael Weiss, Yuka Sato, Kimmie Meissner, Alissa Czisny, Steven Cousins, Elena Leonova and Andrei Khvalko, and Marie-France Dubreuil and Patrice Lauzon — to live music by Chicago. "The hard part was choosing nine songs," Boitano says. "They gave me carte blanche. 'We'll play whatever songs you want.' I'm like, 'Ohmygod. Any song?' No musical guest ever says that.
