In June 2014, comedian Pete Holmes’ TBS talk show “The Pete Holmes Show” was cancelled after just nine months on the air. But now, Holmes is set to make a comeback with a new stand-up special and a half-hour sitcom, executive produced by Judd Apatow. His new series “Crashing” follows a young comedian (Holmes) whose wife (Lauren Lapkus) abruptly leaves him for an Italian boxer. Holmes wrote the pilot and it will be directed by Apatow. Watch a sneak peek trailer from the series below.

It must be a little hard to be famous partly for your voice work. People will recognize you, but it's hard for them to remember how they do. It results in stories like the below from Eugene Mirman, in which a salesclerk lets him in on a secret that the kid from Bob's Burgers comes into their store. The clip is from A Night at Whiplash, a Splitsider Presents documentary about the famed New York stand-up show. The film also includes performances from Janeane Garofalo, Michael Che, Sean Patton, Jared Logan, Carmen Lynch, and Sheng Wang. It's available here for download and stream. And if you ever see Eugene Mirman in public, don't even say hello, just list his credits and be on your way.

"The Daily Show" just selected its newest correspondent in Michael Che, an "SNL" writer and comic who's appeared on "The Late Show with David Letterman," Comedy Central's "Midnight," and IFC's "Bunk." He is damn funny and an unusual addition to "The Daily Show" since his style doesn't even have a veneer of journalistic commentary like John Oliver's or Samantha Bee's. Here are five clips proving he's the right man for the job. 1. His feelings on stalking make you want to stalk him. John Oliver's New York Stand-Up Show Get More: Watch More Stand-Up. 2. His lax observational style is completely new for "The Daily Show." 3. His post-Letterman interview about carnival freaks is just as good as his planned material. 4. But his Letterman appearance was tight too. 5. His opinions about the national debt are salient. Basically: Michael Che is an original and smart comic whose cool confidence will probably...

“The Daily Show With Jon Stewart” is bringing on “Saturday Night Live” writer Michael Che as its newest correspondent. Che, a successful stand-up comedian, has performed on NBC's “Late Night With Seth Meyers” and CBS’ “Late Show With David Letterman.” He's also appeared on Comedy Central's “@midnight” and “John Oliver's New York Stand-Up Show,” VH1's “Best Week Ever” and MTV's “Money from Strangers.” Che will start his new gig in June after wrapping up with “SNL.” Also read: Stephen Colbert Says Goodbye to Jon Stewart, ‘Daily Show’ Che joins correspondents Samantha Bee, Jordan Klepper, Jason Jones, Jessica Williams,...

Fast-rising New York comedian Michael Che is joining Comedy Central’s The Daily Show With Jon Stewart as a new correspondent. Che is currently a staff writer on NBC’s Saturday Night Live, which he joined full-time in September after a guest-writing stint last season. He will join The Daily Show in June, after wrapping SNL. This is a rare talent move from SNL to another late-night show as up-and-comers who get their break at the venerable NBC series tend to stay there for a long time. Che made his late-night debut in 2012 on CBS’ Late Show With David Letterman and became the first stand-up comedian to perform on NBC’s Late Night With Seth Meyers after the SNL alum took the helm of the show. At Comedy Central, Che has appeared on @midnight and John Oliver’s New York Stand-Up Show and recently taped his first stand-up special, which...

This April, John Oliver will begin delivering last week’s news.
HBO announced Wednesday that its new topical comedy series — starring the former Daily Show correspondent – has a name: Last Week Tonight with John Oliver. (What, The Weekly Show felt too on the nose?) The show, which will present “a satirical look at the week in news, politics, and current events,” is set to debut Sunday, April 27 on HBO.

Saturday Night Live’s “newest addition” isn’t actually a new addition at all. Colin Jost, named today as Seth Meyers’ imminent Weekend Update successor, has been writing for the sketch show since 2005 (shortly after he graduated from Harvard; underachiever) and was named its co-head writer in 2012. True, he’s only appeared on the show a handful of times — in just two sketches, according to IMDb — but that doesn’t mean Jost lacks performing experience: He’s also a seasoned standup comedian who has appeared on stages around the country and on programs including Late Night with Jimmy Fallon and...

Can The Daily Show with Jon Stewart survive even without Jon Stewart?
After this summer’s Great Oliver Experiment, it’s safe to answer that question with a “yes.” Sure, it took a few weeks for John Oliver to get comfortable in the anchor’s chair. Once he did, though, the Brit proved that he’s got enough affable charm to ably fill Stewart’s formidable shoes — as well as a winning, self-deprecating attitude that automatically made viewers want to root for his success.
Throughout the summer, Oliver worked hard to keep reminding us that his hosting stint would only be temporary.

The magnificent Trevor Donovan has been cast for a guest role on Drop Dead Diva, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Apparently his role involves dropping his pants in the courtroom, which is always a good idea for Donovan’s characters.
Fox president Kevin Reilly said that he sees Glee ending at the end of its sixth season saying, “there’s two very clear arcs to get to that end and conclude.” However, he added he could see the show lasting beyond that if a new breakout star is found.
Whew. Syfy has picked up the third season of Continuum. I don’t have to figure out how to follow it without a U.S. broadcaster.
Brace yourselves, Fox is planning on adapting Broadchurch. From what I’ve heard about the original, that could be a challenge. Besides, I’m having a hard time imagining Fox coming up with casting as exciting as David Tennant,...

Burn Notice fans might not have to say goodbye to the whole team. TV Guide says that USA is considering a spin-off series focusing on Sam (Bruce Campbell) and Jesse (Coby Bell). There’s been something off about Burn Notice for me (even when they’re doing unnecessarily physical work for hacking jobs) ever since they cut back on the Miami locations, but perhaps a new series will be a solid reboot.
I guess I shouldn’t hope for a Jack of All Trades revival yet.
So far, I’m not particularly interested in The Blacklist which looks er, inspired by Silence of the Lambs with James Spader hamming it up instead. Now that TVLine reports that Parminder Nagra is joining that cast, I’m a little interested.

John Oliver has made his mark on "The Daily Show" as the Senior British Correspondent, often adding some much-needed outside perspective on this crazy American political system of ours.
For example, he's harnessed the power of Herman Cain, taken on the President, brilliantly skewered Rick Santorum, and just last week he convinced us that Mitt Romney may be the most interesting man in the world.
Now, in the above interview recorded at the Aol/Huffington Post HQ in New York, Oliver promises to mock our hyperbolic, year-and-a-half long election to its face when "The Daily Show" airs from the Democratic National Convention this fall.
"We will make fun of them," Oliver said. "That is a promise that I can give you, and I think I can live up to that promise. We will take America's democratic process and we will mock it at its source."

Sometimes, it's nice to have a reminder that for every Daniel Tosh rape joke that gets made, there are thousands of alternatives that we can see on TV nearly every night. And this week was a good one for stand-up: Not only did we see the likes of Todd Barry and Ted Alexandro do stand-up on CBS, we got some great panel from Louis C.K., Marc Maron and Jen Kirkman.
Plus, Sebastian Maniscalco performed on "Conan" to promote his upcoming Showtime special, and newcomer Cristela Alonzo did great on "Conan," too.
Finally, the second season of "John Oliver's New York Stand-Up Show," Comedy Central's new show showcasing some of the funniest stand-up comedians in America, debuted this week as well. What a week!

British comedian John Oliver has been skewering American media and politics as a writer and correspondent for "The Daily Show with Jon Stewart" since 2006, winning Emmys as part of the show's writing staff in 2009 and 2011. But when will the nativized New Yorker, who recently got his green card, become a U.S. citizen?"It's still too early for that, both legally and emotionally," he says, then laughs. "You know, it would be nice to vote. It is taxation without representation at the moment."In the meantime, Oliver is showing his commitment to comedy in this country by showcasing established and up-and-coming comedians on "John Oliver's New York Stand-Up Show," which returns for its third season July 20 on Comedy Central. Headliners include Hannibal Buress, Marc Maron, Michael Ian Black, Dana Gould, and "The Daily Show's" Wyatt Cenac, and the new season also features rising stars Leo Allen, Kurt Braunohler, Michael.

Well, it’s actually the name of a series that they’re developing. Comedy Central isn’t actually developing robots, at least not publicly. They have, however, announced their 2011-12 development slate, and it includes an animated half-hour show entitled Robots. Here’s what they have to say about it:
What if robots attempted to take over the world well before they actually had the ability to do so? This animated show pits a group of household electronics against their slacker owner, Jeff. Unbeknownst to Jeff, the Robots plot and scheme to take over the world every day, however, their lack of ability and understanding of humans eventually foils their plans sending them into a tailspin. Executive produced and written by Kumail Nanjiani (Comedy Central‘s Hot List, John Oliver’s New York Stand-Up Show), Lee Eisenberg and Gene Stupnitsky (The Office, Bad Teacher).

When you have 20 minutes to talk to John Oliver, it's hard to figure out where to start. The British import has been taking maximum advantage of his opportunity here in the States, after 'The Daily Show' plucked him from the U.K. stand-up circuit five years ago to be a correspondent and writer.
Since then, he's become the Mvp of 'Tds' with his hilarious field reports, studio bits and pretty much any other way they can think of using him. He's been particularly adept at filing stories from rallies, parades and other huge gatherings, bringing back absurd quotes from everyone from Tea Party members to St. Patrick's Day revelers.
He's also made a mark in the sitcom world, playing Ian Duncan, Greendale's most apathetic professor, on 'Community.' Finally, Oliver has still been doing his current-events-charged stand-up, some of which you'll see...
