Sex & Nudity

  • 2 female characters are caught kissing in a hospital room. One of them later says the one she was kissing is her girlfriend.
  • Josh's parents imply that they think he and Aiden are in a romantic relationship.
  • Woman takes shower her butt is briefly seen.
  • A side shot of a topless woman, no actual nudity.
  • A naked woman appears but only from side (mild)
  • Characters kiss, have sex, are in their underwear. Some prolonged intimate scenes.

Violence & Gore

  • Blood is common in this supernatural hybrid show. The vampire lead frequently 'feeds' from blood bags that he gets from the hospital he works at. There have been a fair few gory and gruesome scenes (people dying graphically, vampires feeding on humans, the implied ripping apart of people by werewolves).
  • There are a fair bit of beheadings, stabbings, flesh biting, impaling, and fighting. There's always a large amount of blood shown.
  • One of the recurring characters of the second season has his skin shaved off (not shown, but his screams are heard and may be disturbing). He is later shown without his skin. This is quite graphic as he is unrecognizable and looks quite disturbing.
  • It's quite a violent and gory show, portraying a large amount of blood and on-screen violence. But due to the fact that's it's basic cable, a bit of the more gory violence is offscreen.

Profanity

  • Fairly tame, but some stronger words implied. Some mild language, a few uses of 'ass', 'bastard', 'bitch', 'damn', 'crap', 'hell', etc. Mild, but sometimes aggressive uses of the words.

Alcohol, Drugs & Smoking

  • Drinking is often shown, possibly in every episode. When vampires drink blood it is identified almost like a drug problem; they get hooked on it once they gets a taste. Vampires often look like drug addicts whilst feeding, laughing insanely and getting disoriented.

Frightening & Intense Scenes

  • The show has many dark and serious undertones to it. It deals with death, both literally and metaphorically; in the sense that the three main characters have all lost their regular human lives, Sally died and is a ghost, Aidan died and is a vampire and the human in Josh dies every time he becomes a werewolf.
  • There are a large number of bloody deaths (including the death of children).
  • Occasionally, there are frightening ghost scenes, and there are a great many intense moments (particularly the season 2 finale).
