"Save us Father! There's evil down here." This looks creepy. 101 Films has unveiled an official trailer for an indie supernatural horror film called The Gates, made by the filmmaker Stephen Hall. The title must be a reference to the "Gates of Hell", not just the prison itself. Or perhaps somewhere else more sinister... Set in Victorian London, a chilling thriller at a prison. A serial killer has been sentenced to death by electric chair in the 1890s, but in his final hours, he puts a curse on the prison he is in, and all of those in it. The film stars Michael Yare and Richard Brake, along with John Rhys-Davies & Elena Delia as two post mortem photographers, turned paranormal investigators; plus David Pearse & Peter Coonan. This looks much better than expected, with a scary story to boot. And the intense end of the trailer hints at a big showdown.

Character actor Richard Brake has a lot of success in his career, racking up almost 90 screen credits over the last thirty years. Those credits include roles in Cold Mountain, Batman Begins, Doom, Munich, and Hannibal Rising, so he started getting cast in major productions with some frequency rather early on. But it’s interesting to see how much more prolific he has gotten since playing The Night King in Game of Thrones and Doom-Head in Rob Zombie’s 31. About half of his credits have come just in the seven years since 31 was released. Next up for him is The Gates, where he co-stars with John Rhys-Davies of the Indiana Jones and Lord of the Rings franchises (in addition to over 250 other projects). The film is scheduled to receive a digital and VOD release in the US and Canada on June 27th, and a trailer for it can be seen in the embed above.

In today’s film news roundup, “Walking on Water” gets North American distribution, Abramorama acquires rights to “Family in Transition,” and the Cinema Italian Style film festival sets its opening night film.
Acquisitions
Kino Lorber has acquired North American rights to “Walking on Water,” centered on installation artist Christo and his 2016 art piece “The Floating Piers,” Variety has learned exclusively.
The yellow walkway was mounted for 16 days during that summer, a 3-kilometer walkway that allowed visitors to safely walk across stretches of Italy’s Lake Iseo to experience the sensation of floating and walking on water. Few artists deserve the moniker “maverick” as much as Christo, and few documentarists are as attuned to the intersection of visual delight and strong personality as Andrey Paounov (“The Boy Who Was a King”). Neither man has any use for the wishy-washy, which is just one of the reasons why it was natural the latter should make a film about the former — and not merely because they’re both Bulgarian. “Walking on Water” chronicles Christo’s glorious 2016 project in which he unfurled a golden path across Lake Iseo in northern Italy, designed to let people literally stride across the gently undulating surface. The artist’s forceful character does battle with technology, bureaucracy, corruption and the elements, resulting in an installation of stunning beauty and a documentary that delights in capturing the act of creation. Art houses with regular documentary programs will have a crowd-pleaser on their hands.

Back in April, Dolphin Entertainment and Mattel announced that a live-action, feature-length film based on Mattel's Max Steel property was back in the works after the previous attempt (apparently with Twilight actor Taylor Lautner attached) went belly up. We know that Christopher Yost wrote the script and that Stewart Hendler will direct, but now The Tracking Board reckon the following actors are testing for the male and female lead roles. Noah Silver (The Borgias), Ben Winchell (Necessary Roughness) and Dylan Minnette (Prisoners, Lost) are testing to play Max. For the undisclosed female role there's Skyler Day (Parenthood, Ironside) and Skyler Samuels (The Nine Lives of Chloe King, The Gates). The story follows a teenager named Max, who gets imbued with an energy power called Turbo (Tachyon Unlimited Radiant Bio-Optimized) and is then partnered with Steel, a technological alien.

He may have been a late addition to Arrow’s first season, but Colton Hayne’s Roy Harper has quickly become one of the main reasons to come back for season two this October. Still an enigma in a show becoming more superhero-heavy as it evolves, we spoke to the actor about clearing up the Speedy/Red Arrow issue (spoiler: he couldn’t), his relationship with Thea, whether Roy’s going to join Team Arrow, and the real reason he left Teen Wolf ahead of its third season.

Janina Gavankar is on her way to Mystic Falls.
The TV Fanatic favorite (see this interview) has landed a potentially recurring role on The Vampire Diaries as Tessa, described by TV Line as an exotic, confident woman who arrives in Mystic Falls and who debuts on Episode 3, which we already know will be a flashback installment.
It's a very safe assumption that she will be portraying an ex-girlfriend of Stefan's. A vengeful ex, we should say.
Gavankar is best known for her long-running role on True Blood and has also stopped by Arrow, The League and The Gates.
The Vampire Diaries Season 5, meanwhile, premiere on Thursday, October 3.

Colton Haynes started out as a model, in a memorable Bruce Weber campaign for Abercrombie & Fitch, and eventually segued into acting, appearing in guest shots on Pushing Daisies and CSI: Miami.
It was in the unfortunately short-lived series The Gates, as a school jock/werewolf, that the industry really began to take notice of him, and it would score him his most high-profile role to date, as lacrosse player/lizard boy Jackson on MTV’s Teen Wolf.
Sadly, Jackson left the show at the end of last season to become An American Kanima In London, and Colton’s presence is definitely missed. He wasn’t gone long from primetime, however, as he can now be seen as a series regular on The WB’s Arrow.
He turns 25 this weekend, so we thought we’d say Happy Birthday, Colton with 25 hot pics. It’s our way of saying, “Thanks for all the showers.

NBC has announced some of the pilots that it will not be ordering to series this fall -- releasing actors and writers from their contracts. The Last Exorcism wasn’t really the last one since The Last Exorcism 2 hits theaters on March 1st. We chatted with series star Ashley Bell, who reprises her role as Nell, the sheltered, innocent girl who is possessed by the devil. She is a very warm actress, so it is no surprise that the devil would want to set up shop in her. Ashely talked to us about her love of horror, the confusing title, and those Doc Martens.
First, I have to ask about the contradictory title. Wouldn’t this make the first film The Second-to-Last Exorcism?
I know! I would agree with you in most circumstances, but there is never a last exorcism for the devil. For the first one, it was Cotton Marcus’s last exorcism, but the devil continues.

CBS has lined up another Person of Interest for their hit show starring Jim Caviezel and Michael Emerson.
