The plot thickens

There is so much going on in this exciting episode. I want to say that this is my favorite episode and also the best one of Season 1.

Here, Lady Grantham reveals that she is pregnant, much to the surprise of her husband and daughters. Lady Mary has trouble deciding if she is going to marry Matthew, but her aunt helps her to think about it. Lady Mary also finds out about her sister's scheme. Meanwhile, the cook Mrs. Patmore goes to London for her eye surgery. She is accompanied by Anna, who has the opportunity to investigate Bates' history and prove herself that he is truly a good man instead of what O'Brien and Barrows suggest.

I love watching them excited by the telephone. Carson is really funny. Meanwhile, I have to say that Siobhan Finneran is an amazing actress. She perfectly portrays the bitter and despicable O'Brien. O'Brien's actions on this episode are really horrible, but it did affect the whole Crawley family's fate. And the ending is fantastic, it makes me excited to see Season 2!

Two betrayals guide the future of the series.
mark.waltz24 September 2019
Warning: Spoilers
Excellent soap opera utilizes secrets to move its plot forward, and for Mary and her mother Cora, it's both angering and tragic. The episode starts off in celebration as Cora discovers that she's pregnant. Mary learns not really to her shock that it was Edith who wrote to the Turkish ambassador about the death of Mr. Pamuk. She's completely in denial of her part in her sister's hatred of her, even if Edith's betrayal could have completely destroyed her life. The confrontation between them is chilling.

For Cora, her tragedy comes from the vindictiveness of the angry O'Brien who begins to believe that she's about to be sacked. Much commentary has been made about O'Brien's similarities to the vindictive Mrs. Danvers from "Rebecca", and the sideburns (suggested by Siobhan Finneran) really adds to her coldness. This episode also introduces Robert's officious sister Lady Rosamund (think Princess Anne in period clothes) and Mrs. Bird, Isabel's cook who takes over for Mrs. Pathmore who goes to London for cataract surgery (quite different in 1914 than 105 years later).

Historically, this deals with the obstacles that erupt from the assassination of the Archduke and Archduchess of Austria, resulting in the promise of a world war. Battle lines are drawn between several characters, none as chilling as Edith and Mary. O'Brien shows a bit of conscience but it's too late for her due to the tragedy of the outcome of her vindictiveness. This will show her in a completely different light as she tries to make amends. What enticement to return to season two.

Mary finds out that Edith betrayed her and fashions a quid pro quo. The country begins to move toward war. Matthew and Mary reach an impasse. Stubbornness trumps honor. Thomas and O'Brien continue to plot against Bates. Cora sinks into sadness over O'Brien's vicious act. Mrs. Patmore faces a serious demon. Well done completion to the first season.

Cook Patmore starts to be annoying.
CursedChico17 February 2021
Warning: Spoilers
Cook Patmore starts to be annoying.

She speaks without listening. She was behaving badly to daisy and she made daisy did such things. To make meals taste bad. And despite everyone learned Patmore made daisy do those, noone said anything to daisy or to cook about that. daisy can be manipulated easily but they seem they dont care it. Maybe daisy could poison them even.

And also bates starts to be annoying. Not defending himself. Why should people believe he is nice person while he is not defending himself? Anna saved him fortunately.

Thomas will go to army as medic. Will they say to doctor about him? He was thief and they seem they wont say about it.

cora did not question about soap. o brien said soap was under tub but she did not care it.

I did not like this episode much.

After finishing first season of alias series on 13221, i am here. I watch series season by season.

I chose this series because time of episodes are long, around 47 minutes as far i saw and it is historic.

I hope i can enjoy. I will edit here after watching episodes i hope. I will copy this to also episode 1 review.

SEASON REVIEW: 7 / 10 I did not know about england and about 1900s so much. Season showed me that well. The first cars, first telephones... I really enjoyed some parts. But some characters are boring.

And years passed fast, it was 1912 at first, then they said 1914 and war started. I could not follow maybe it.

I hope people start to more sensible. like robert and carson. They were nice, also matthew.

And driver was socialist. He even said it but despite that, lord did not do anything. Maybe socialism were not so evil at that times.

It is said that turkish diplomat's death was real. I cant imagine how it can be but i read it like that.

I watch series season by season. So, i will move to another series now. I will miss this. Also, it has a movie. I hope i can watch it after i finish this.
