Episode 1 -- pretty much as expected
MaxKorngold3 January 2022
I expected this to be The Apprentice with Guy Fieri as Donald Trump, and that's pretty much what I got. Basically, Guy is looking for someone who will be a franchisee of one of his Chicken Guy (exclamation point!) joints. Apparently, getting a Chicken Guy franchise is a big deal. (They didn't say whether the winner will have to put up the same amount of cash as a normal franchisee. The "prize" could turn out to be about as desirable as a job working for Trump.)

Like The Apprentice, this show has a group of go-getters vying for the boss's approval. The "judges" are Guy, various business associates and chefs, and (for some reason that escapes me) his son Hunter, who seems like a decent kid just humoring a dad with an outsized personality. Guy subjects the contestants to challenges designed to find out whether they have what it takes and to make them feel inadequate. The only difference from The Apprentice, as far as I can see so far, is that someone doesn't get "fired" at the end of each episode. I guess they all stick around to the end. But they do get paid varying "salaries" each week based on how well or poorly they "performed."

The first episode introduced the kinds of characters we've become used to in "reality" game shows -- the ex-military iron man, the brown-noser, the screw-up, the jerk, etc. And most of that, I assume, is the creation of the editors, with no connection to who these people really are.

So I got what I expected, and I was entertained. I expect I'll watch the whole series. Unlike many people, I find Guy amusing. It looks like the challenges will result in some moments of relatively natural drama. And if the show makes good use of the "judges," their comments should be interesting.

Bad ... Really Bad
drednm14 January 2022
Guy Fieri launches a show to award a chicken franchise to one of a group of unlikable dopes who preen and mug for the camera as they "compete" in a series of stupid stunts.

This is NOT a cooking show so don't be fooled. Whoever wins the franchise sure as hell won't be wearing a paper hat and cooking in it. It'll be staffed by the same under-educated people you see in every fast-food franchise.

The contestants are all self-obsessed blowhards and the "judging" is beyond ridiculous. A show for the selfie generation.

The concept to the ending

Warning: Spoilers
I watched every episode from the start until the end. I saw the vision of allowing someone else be apart of what has already been built. I saw whom did struggle, stumble, workaholics, and egos. Egos!? Whom doesn't want to be great. Yet whom can come into an enterprise already born. It reminded me of Undercover Boss yet on the surface level. And I love good food. Cayton since the waiver of $40,000 to own your next own is beneath you. Give it to your Cousin. Everyone else Win or loosing always had a positive attitude. Chase may you go far. Chelsea express your light. Phil and Eboni now y'all can gather just don't let off the gas. Kevin keep going strong. Chef Guy you've created a path.

Chase should win hands down.
jimaquil31 January 2022
I Eboni wins , I will never watch another Guy show! She is all talk, Bla Bla Bla every episode. She's in last place and still talks like she is winning.

Chase has everything you would want to run your restaurant.

Huge Disappointment
debotoole-6299219 January 2022
The concept is not that bad, but I refuse to believe these drama queens and kings are the best they could find in thousands of applications. This is like a dreadful cross between Housewives of Atlanta and Chopped. I'm embarrassed for Guy Fieri to have his name on it. Should have been called The Eboni Show.

Not a true Guy Fieri show
kymberleigh-7718017 January 2022
Chopped is a show where contestants cut each other down. The Bachelor is a show for drama. Worst Cooks combine them both in a tongue and cheek manner. But a Guy Fieri show is about good fun and fabulous food. This has none of that.

A third of the contestants are just horrid people. A third know what they are doing and a third are sweet but hopeless. By episode three I only care that who loses, not who wins.

My biggest issue, however, is that if this was any kind of real restaurant interview, Eboni wouldn't make it 30 seconds past the introductions. Her nails are a safety hazard. Her jewelry is a safety hazard. Her hair ~ same. I've seen McDonald's get dinged by the health inspector for things like that when it's just an employee. At management level, that's additional points off your score because you should know better and be an example. Shameful.

Bad
mattgray-4302216 January 2022
Bad people. Blow hards. One person in particular, bla bla my kid this, my Kid that. Total turnoff and nobody cares

This is bad comedy. Not even bad reality tv, it certainly isn't about cooking like grocery games or diner drives and dives. Stick to that if you value what food networks programming is supposed to be. Don't give this crap the eyeballs.

No one to blame but myself
thhhqtndy30 January 2022
Just can't express how much this show is stupid. I gave it a shot because I've seen how much Guy has done for others during Covid and clearly he's grown a financial empire. I wanted to see, if only a glimpse, how he approached the business side.

However, a lot of the premise and feedback is so contrived and out of touch that I'm reminded of why I have never cared for Guy. For me, that all made for a hate-watch, which is probably part of his success. Can't argue that his formula has worked, just don't think it's for the reasons articulated on this silly show.

Not enjoyable
Mikep1592 February 2022
I gave this show several chances to be enjoyable. It failed to deliver. Most of the contestants could not run a vending machine. Guy's head has gotten quite large and his arrogance is on display here. Not a good show. Don't bother.

I really like other Guy Fieri shows but this is bad
jshmcbrm2119 January 2022
Warning: Spoilers
The contestants do not seem possess simple skills that most restaurant general managers use on most if not all shifts. I have my favorites in Kevin and Phillip that make me want to keep watching but Eboni is once again one of the least knowledgeable and prepared of the contestants and is getting too much attention. I remember her from master chef and it is the same act again just sadder and more pathetic, I hoped she would grow up, her bullying Chelsea was just weak and wrong, especially by the frame of the conversation that was taking place between the two before Eboni decided to start being mesn.

This chicken place needs to be closed down!.

Worst show Guy has made. Did network needs to quit making show that have off the wall characters and actually go back to making shows that have people that know how to cook.

Ok concept but poorly executed.
yxbccxxbd17 January 2022
Honestly I want to like this show and I think I would if it weren't for this shows biggest weakness, its contestants. Other than 2 people everyone is hard to watch, due to their headache inducing personalities, extreme arrogance and unjustified rudeness abound. Its a show with very little cooking like you would get from a show like hells kitchen. Instead it is full of a bunch of people sucking up to Guy hoping to get an inkling of his attention.

And yes, on Hells Kitchen the contestants are also not the best people on the planet by a mile. However the average viewer can at least stomach them in a way where they can realize that its a reality tv show and it must be played up a little bit for the camera. However THESE people are absolute bottom of the barrel besides 2 guys. Don't watch.

With that being said i want to drive to Guys Chicken to try the food but just not a location run by one of the lucky horrible contestants who win Guys Chance of a Lifetime.

All of those contestants were under qualified or liars lol
steveagron7 March 2022
My biggest pet peeve is a person who's says there a chef but can't even make proper cuts or knows anything about food , the only legit one was the military guy , that eboni girl was never an executive chef nor managed kitchens no efffing way , I think the contestants should've been actual proven chefs and should've been tested the same way top chef tested skills.

Really Wanted This To Work
RhoadsScholar7 February 2022
Food Network should change its name to Guy Fieri Channel. I apprehensively invested my time in a series that was like a bad car wreck. I really wish they could get back to basics, lose most of the competitions and maybe get a band (like Emeril back in the day). The only reason I didn't bail on the chicken tenders controversy was because I couldn't find the remote.

The Guy Channel Presents a commercial
rmmil24 March 2022
It's plainly obvious The Food Network has been completely taken over by Guy and all must do his bidding.

The chicken franchise portrayed here is Guy's, which means the entire show was just a huge commercial for his franchise. Guy must completely control that network if he was able to talk them into making that. Notice all the "over-the-top" comments about the quality and concept. Never frozen chicken?! That only exists...everywhere. Guy do you know what a "Popeyes"is?

As for the series itself, a bunch of very entitled cry babies, and I don't think I've ever seen so many people join a reality show before with so many prior obligations. You couldn't take a few weeks off when you knew you were going to be on tv?

But "the most" annoying thing about this series was the blatant misogyny on display and Guy's personality.

Everyone seemed to hate the one woman contestant because she asked a lot of questions. It was so dumb they just keep bringing it up. And Guy's head seemed to grow about 10 sizes larger during the course of the show itself, I've never seen him be "mean" to people before. Was it because they were "regular people" so he felt like he could berate them?

Side note: I've never seen Guy actually cook before. Can he? He talks a lot for someone who never puts himself on the line.

I know 2 things after watching this: Not watching anymore Food Network competition shows, the concept has grown so tired, and NEVER visiting a Chicken Guy. Ever.

Blatant Ego Trip
martinrandall-3670623 January 2022
This show is nothing more than an extended commercial for Guy Fieri's latest business venture, the Chicken Guy Fast food chain. It is also a sad case of the once proud Food Network bowing down to the monstrous ego of it's number one star.

The competition portion of each episode purports to pit top "chefs" against each other like so many other foodie shows including Guy's Grocery Games and Chopped. However those shows have real chefs who display real talent. The Chicken Guy contestants are tasked with putting together meals from pre-made, pre-proportioned food items from a fixed menu. The only skill required is being able to read the order. The average 10-year old pulled from the street could easily do this.

We are also treated to the shameful display of some of the Food Network's biggest celebrity chefs like Antonia Lofaso being forced to judge fast food fries and sandwiches like they were actual food cooked by an actual chef. Antonia actually raved about how crispy the fries were, duh! They were made by a machine on a timer, they were precut, frozen, and dunked in hot oil for exactly the right amount of time according to the Chicken Guy handbook.

Food Network needs to reign in Fieri and cancel this abomination of a show and quit pretending it is anything other than an obnoxiously long commercial for a crappy restaurant. They also need to stop Guy from forcing his son Hunter onto every single show on which Fieri appears. Hunter's a nice kid but with zero talent as a host or judge.

My prediction is the Chicken Guy franchise will die of natural causes within 2 years, just like dozens of other Guy Fieri business ventures. The food, by the way, looks horrible and I would not eat at one of these restaurants on a bet.

Another food show circus
artpym6 January 2022
Silly premise notwithstanding, it's about gathering a diverse group of ridiculous characters with limited talent. Ultimately, it has very little about actual cooking, but more of a comidic farse. One of the msny reasons that the Food Network has lost so.much credibility over the years.
