One of the more puzzling box office flops of the year was David Leitch’s The Fall Guy. Despite good reviews, and the fact that it paired two Barbenheimer VIP’s, Ryan Gosling and Emily Blunt, the movie performed disappointingly at the box office. It only earned about $92 million domestically, a disaster for a movie that cost in the $150 million range. However, folks who saw the movie mostly liked it, and one of them turned out to be a former Ryan Gosling co-star, Russell Crowe.
Posting on X, Gosling’s The Nice Guys co-star wrote, “Have you seen The Fall Guy? It’s a lot of fun. Ryan Gosling and Emily Blunt are great together, lithely pivoting from drama to romance to comedy and back. Worth the watch.”
Crowe and Gosling had high hopes for The Nice Guys, which was an action-comedy they made with Shane Black back in 2016. There...

Up on Variety about a year ago, there was an interesting interview with the German distributor of the Expendables and John Wick movies. Fred Kogel, who runs Leonine Studios, noted that all the top action heroes now, Keanu Reeves, Sylvester Stallone, Tom Cruise, and Harrison Ford, are the same ones we had in the eighties and nineties. But with Stallone and Ford in their late seventies, who will be the new action stars when the icons are done with the genre? Liam Neeson’s action career can’t go on forever, and Bruce Willis has, sadly, had to retire. For his part, Kogel doesn’t believe distributors and studios have done enough to build up a new crop of action heroes, noting that for the older stars, there was “a great deal of identification with the type of the actor, with the physicality of the actor so that you could relate to that.

Here’s a La La Land moment that still haunts Ryan Gosling ( Photo Credit – Instagram )
Despite earning an Oscar nod and being part of one of the most celebrated modern musicals, Ryan Gosling admitted a single frame continues to haunt him. And yes, it’s all about the hand placement.
Speaking to WSJ Magazine, Gosling opened up about a particular dance sequence with Emma Stone that became the La La Land poster. While choreographed magic was happening, Gosling made an impromptu decision to strike what he thought was a more relaxed pose. “We were supposed to have our hands up,” he explained. “I thought it’d be cool to put my hand like that [flat angle]. Even though everyone told me it wasn’t cool, I was sure it was.” Spoiler alert: it wasn’t.
Years later, the actor can’t help but see the missed opportunity every time he glimpses that poster.

Hollywood needs movies like Wicked to be successful. The year has been chockfull of pretty huge box office duds, with the fact that movies like The Fall Guy, Joker Folie a Deux, Red One and Furiosa are having a hard time, likely sending a chill through the industry. With home theaters suddenly affordable, more and more folks are simply staying home to watch the latest releases once they hit VOD, which is often as little as twenty-one days after they premiere. In a time like this, theaters need to be encouraging folks to come out and see movies if they want to survive.
This very fact is what makes the way theaters are treating Wicked, which is shaping up to be one of the few movies this year audiences are turning out in droves to see, such a head-scratcher. Here on the site, we’ve covered the fact that theatre...

Many of us have faced awkward interactions in public which make us wish for the ground to split in two and give us an escape from the weirdness. Something similar happened to the Gladiator II star when he encountered Ryan Gosling at the BAFTAs.
Paul Mescal recalled sharing an embarrassing moment with the Barbie actor which would make introverts cringe in discomfort. The duo shared eye contact, which the Normal People actor gushed about to his sister, but unfortunately, Gosling heard him. Mescal found it mortifying that the object of his admiration had supposedly overheard his fawning.

Red One, starring Dwayne The Rock Johnson and Chris Evans, completes its first week at the theatres. Although the numbers are not splendid yet, it has been holding its own ground pretty well. The action comedy flick grossed winning numbers on Thursday despite Thursday previews of Gladiator II and Wicked. Scroll below for the deets.
Wicked is headed for an exceptional debut weekend at the box office in North America, and Gladiator II is also looking good. This movie, led by The Rock and the MCU star, is already trending in the media, as the audience is enjoying it even though the critics’ ratings are not so good. “Wicked” is everywhere.
In the lead-up to the film’s release this weekend, Universal struck brand partnerships with dozens of companies. Starbucks is selling “Wicked”-themed specialty drinks at nearly $6 each and gift cards. Kahlua and Absolut Vodka created “cocktails straight from Oz” for $159.99. Clothing brands like Forever 21, Gap and Stanley are in the mix — Stanley has a giant tumbler in either pink or green for $55 — along with Opi, which is offering several new shades of nail polish with names like “Ozitively Elphaba” for $11.99 each.
This is just the beginning. No matter what consumers want or what price they’re willing to pay, there is something “Wicked”-related on offer. From consumer products to toys to lifestyle brands, jewelry, wellness and cosmetics, the great and powerful Oz touches all.
It’s unavoidable. It’s inescapable. And it is unlike anything Hollywood has mounted before. It makes the product blitz...

Eight months have gone by since we heard that Aaron Taylor-Johnson of Bullet Train and The Fall Guy had been chosen as the latest actor to take on the role of super spy James Bond – and while the former Bond, Daniel Craig, doesn’t care who’s going to follow in his footsteps, fans are still anxiously waiting to hear if Taylor-Johnson is going to be Bond, or if the role is going to someone else. While we continue to wait, the release date of Taylor-Johnson’s next film, Sony’s Marvel Comics adaptation Kraven the Hunter, is swiftly approaching. The movie is set to reach theatres on December 13th – and Taylor-Johnson recommends that Bond fans check it out.
Directed by J. C. Chandor from a screenplay by Richard Wenk, Art Marcum, and Matt Holloway, Kraven the Hunter has the following synopsis: Kraven the Hunter is the visceral, action-packed origin...

There's nothing better than curling up in front of the boob tube on a Friday night with a bucket full of popcorn to watch a classic piece of cinema. Luckily, in this day and age, movies are readily accessible on various streaming platforms. Peacock, in particular, carries a surprising amount of top-notch films to ensure that popcorn doesn't go to waste.
While perusing their streaming library, there were roughly 60 movies on Peacock that I'd happily watch any day, ranging from blockbuster franchises like "Harry Potter" to quirky comedies like "Billy Madison" -- not to mention the endless supply of Hallmark and original movies. Of course, we couldn't include all our favorites, but we've narrowed it down to a Top 30, ranked from great to, well, greater. I wholeheartedly recommend every single movie on this list.

The first half of 2024 was pretty unkind to a lot of movies. The box office was on life support for most of that period and it all felt kind of bleak for anyone who pays attention to such things. The most depressing part was that quite a few great movies were being hung out to dry, including "The Fall Guy" and "Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga," among others. "Abigail," the latest horror movie from the filmmaking collective known as Radio Silence, was also a big disappointment theatrically. Fortunately though, it's finally finding its audience.
"Abigail" is currently streaming on Prime Video and, as of this writing, is sitting in the number four spot on Amazon's most-watched movies chart (via FlixPatrol). It's currently only trailing Mark Wahlberg's 2021 sci-fi flop "Infinite" (which also recently found new life on Prime Video), Nancy Meyers' perennial 2006 rom-com "The Holiday,...

Universal Pictures surprised us back in January when they announced that not only was a new entry in the Jurassic Park and Jurassic World franchise in the works, but the screenplay was already finished and the project was aiming for a 2025 theatrical release. July 2, 2025, to be exact. This new movie is called Jurassic World Rebirth, and it was assembled in a mad scramble so it can stay on track to reach theatres next July. Details have been kept under wraps so far, but Universal just revealed some plot and character information the other day, so now it’s time for us to put together a list of Everything We Know About Jurassic World Rebirth:

At 34, Aaron Taylor-Johnson has built up one of the best CVs in the business – in part because he started so young: he was 10 when he appeared in All My Sons at the National Theatre, and just 12 when he played the lead in family film Tom & Thomas.
Then came two key breakthroughs: in Angus, Thongs and Perfect Snogging, and as the young John Lennon in biopic Nowhere Boy, directed by his future wife, Sam Taylor-Johnson.

Epic sandworm rides across the desert of Arrakis, a thrilling gladiator battle involving a rhino and a display of the unmitigated feeling of pure Anxiety —those are just a few scenes and characters that have entertained audiences this past year, none of which would be possible without the artisans who make the magic happen behind the scenes.

Updated: New this weekend at the international box office, Warner Bros began pre-domestic release on Amazon MGM Studios’ Red One. The opening numbers on the Christmas-themed Seven Bucks production are within the range we expected heading into the frame, coming in at $26.6M from 75 offshore markets.
For Latin America, the film ranked No. 2 behind the 3rd weekend of Venom: The Last Dance, but results are above comps like Central Intelligence (+35%).
In Europe, and at today’s rates, Red One is tracking ahead of Central Intelligence (+9%) and Skyscraper (+15%).
Asia was not expected to excel; however in the region (excluding China and Japan), reviews were mostly positive, and the film ranked as the No. 1 or No. 2 U.S. title in all but two markets.
Overall, the Dwayne Johnson/Chris Evans-starrer saw strong Saturday performance across nearly all markets with family audiences propelling results; this bodes well for the weeks to come...

Like Citadel: Diana, the new Citadel spinoff, Citadel: Honey Bunny, arrives to little fanfare but significant results. The original was a bloated, massive miss for critics and fans alike. However, “from the Russo Brothers” stamp of approval still means something to fans and Hollywood in general, attracting stars from all over the globe.
The next chapter in the Prime Video spy saga, Citadel: Honey Bunny, is one hell of a ride. Of course, this version doesn’t have the bells and whistles of the original or even the Italian sequel. Not to mention big-name global stars like Priyanka Chopra Jonas and Richard Madden. Yet, the series has its own style and attitude, which is all its own.

Emily Blunt is one of the biggest actors in the business right now. Not only has she been starring in beloved movies such as "The Devil Wears Prada" or "Edge of Tomorrow" for nearly two decades, but she's also now an Oscar winner thanks to her work in Christopher Nolan's "Oppenheimer." Like most people who star in movies, Blunt is also a big fan of movies. No surprise there. But what's her favorite movie? Demonstrating good taste, it's an absolute classic directed by none other than Steven Spielberg.
"I always say 'Jaws,' people are sick of hearing me say that," Blunt said when asked what her four favorite movies are during a red carpet interview at SXSW 2024 with Letterboxd. "It's an incredible, perfect film." Indeed, she has been vocal about her love of "Jaws" for a long time.

To paraphrase Wesley Snipes as Blade in this summer’s blockbuster “Deadpool & Wolverine”: There’s only one “Barbenheimer.” There’s only ever gonna be one “Barbenheimer.”
Hollywood might never replicate the je ne sais quoi that prompted the explosion of “Barbie” and “Oppenheimer” double features, turning the box office battle between two very different films into a once-in-a-generation cinematic event. But multiplex owners are hoping that “Wicked” and “Gladiator II” achieve something close as the pink-and-green musical and the Colosseum-set action epic land in theaters on Nov. 22.
“It won’t happen in the same way, but the conversation around ‘Wicked’ and ‘Gladiator’ is reminiscent of ‘Barbenheimer,’” says Shawn Robbins, Fandango’s director of movie analytics. “They’re fueling each other.”
Whether or not “Glicked” is the second coming of “Barbenheimer,” there’s mounting pressure on Thanksgiving movies — Disney’s “Moana 2” swims to the big screen on Nov.

“In the pilot episode, there was nothing of the more flamboyant or bizarre side of Douglas; he was going to be the hard-line office manager, the penny pincher,” Rachins said in a 1990 interview with The New York Times. “It was kind of limited, and I didn’t know where it was going. Exclusive: Lionsgate has snapped up rights to Three Hitmen and a Baby, an action comedy spec from Dave Matalon (Totally Killer) and Matt Altman (Red Widow), Deadline can exclusively reveal.
Pic’s logline is being kept under wraps, though its title clearly riffs on the classic 1987 comedy Three Men and a Baby, starring Tom Selleck, Steve Guttenberg, and Ted Danson, about three bachelors whose lives change forever when a baby suddenly appears on their doorstep. Kelly McCormick and David Leitch will produce through their company 87North, for whom Max Jacoby is overseeing the project. Meredith Wieck and Jon Humphrey are overseeing for Lionsgate.
Screenwriter Matalon most recently co-wrote the slasher comedy Totally Killer! for Blumhouse and Amazon, which headlined Prime Video’s Halloween season last year. As we first reported, his sci-fi action script Level Up, also written with Altman, is in development with The Hideaway and Vandal Entertainment.

It looks like Hollywood and movie theaters are going to have a lot to be thankful for very soon. That's because the Thanksgiving frame is shaping up to be an absolute juggernaut, with not one, not two, but three different films looking to sell a lot of tickets as we head into the holiday season, with Universal's musical "Wicked" and Paramount's long-awaited sequel "Gladiator II" leading the way. While the films couldn't be more different on paper, early box office tracking suggests they have something in common. Namely, general audiences are very interested in both of them.
"Wicked" is currently tracking for an opening weekend of $80 million or more domestically, while "Gladiator II" is eyeing an opening in the $65 million range, per early tracking numbers provided by Deadline. It's very early to start getting hyperbolic, but we could be looking at another Barbenheimer situation here. Last year, Greta Gerwig...

Big screen Westerns might've been falling out of favor at the U.S. box office in 1965 (thus paving the way for Spaghetti Westerns to become a surprise sensation when Sergio Leone's Dollars Trilogy rode into movie theaters throughout the course of 1967), but television Westerns were still swaggering their way to strong ratings thanks to "Bonanza," "Gunsmoke," and the hybrid Western/spy/sci-fi series "The Wild Wild West." And with "Rawhide" finally drawing to a close that year (thereby allowing its star Clint Eastwood to become a modern Western star), there was suddenly room for a new, sudsy, ranch-bound saga about scheming landowners and warring heirs.
"The Big Valley" whooped it up for a solid four-season run, running out of steam in 1969 at around the same moment the television Westerns began going the way of classical big screen oaters. Until then, viewers were hooked on the doings at the Barkley Ranch,...

Lionsgate’s genre-spanning 2024 slate of heist comedies, weepy coming-of-age tales, cheeky video game adaptations and horror stories was aiming to fill a void. Most of these were the kinds of movies that major Hollywood studios have either stopped making entirely or largely relegated to streaming services.
And yet, instead of packing seats at multiplexes due to pent-up demand, everything from director Eli Roth’s irreverent console-to-screen adventure “Borderlands” ($32 million globally), the “Crow” reboot ($23.7 million) and historical crime drama “1992” ($2.9 million) to Halle Berry’s post-apocalyptic horror story “Never Let Go” ($16.2 million), Dave Bautista-led action-comedy “The Killer’s Game” ($5.9 million), Francis Ford Coppola’s sci-fi epic “Megalopolis” ($11.2 million) and “Wonder” prequel “White Bird” ($6.8 million) has sputtered at the box office. That’s a string of seven consecutive flops — each with paltry single-digit debuts — in the nine weeks between early August and mid-October.

Oscar winner Ke Huy Quan continues to write new chapters in his feel-good comeback story, and this latest one is as an action star in Jonathan Eusebio’s Love Hurts.
After a nearly two-decade hiatus from acting, Quan won an Oscar for his supporting role as Waymond Wang in Daniels’ best picture-winning Everything Everywhere All at Once. It was a storybook second chance for an actor who grew disillusioned with acting, opting to quit and enroll in USC’s film program. Given his history in the realm of stuntwork, David Leitch hasn’t dropped the ball when it comes to action sequences in his movies, whether it be 2022’s Bullet Train or last year’s The Fall Guy. Unlike some of Leitch’s other works like John Wick, Bullet Train is more bombastic with its action, and Aaron Taylor Johnson even opted to perform some of his own stunts in the action flick.

Unsurprisingly, Palm Dog winner Kodi made the list for her work in Dog On Trial. Other notables include Dave from Andrea Arnold's Bird and Kelpie from The Fall Guy. The next person to get one is Ke Huy Quan, and the movie is “Love Hurts,” in which Quan plays a former hitman who comes out of retirement for one last mission. On Tuesday, Universal released a trailer for the film, which opens in theaters early next year. It features Quan’s impressive stunt work scored by the ironically easy-listening tones of Celine Dion’s “It’s All Coming Back to Me Now.”
In his first lead role since winning the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor for his career-restoring performance in “Everything Everywhere All at Once,” Quan stars as Marvin Gable, a mild-mannered real estate agent with a secret past as an assassin that he’s trying to put behind him. Marvin is forced out of hiding when his former partner, Rose (Academy Award winner Ariana DeBose...

Over the years, Emily Blunt has earned herself enough recognition and praise through her outstanding performances across various genres. As Ryan Gosling likes to put it, she brings that “Blunt force” to her pieces, ensuring to leave an impression on her viewers. Perhaps this was the very reason why she earned her breakthrough within 3 years of her onscreen debut in the film industry.
