Behind the scenes, director David Leitch and producer Kelly McCormick have been instrumental in the movement for the Academy of Motion Picture Arts to recognize stunts. The director-producer husband-wife team hasn’t been shy in using their new film, “The Fall Guy,” a love letter to stunt professionals, to advance the cause. And it’s a cause that is increasingly looking like it will become a reality; a significant victory came last spring with the creation of the new Production and Technology Academy branch, which includes stunt professionals and therefore supplies the necessary pathway to a Best Stunt Design category at the Oscars.
“We’ve always been in the shadows, [but] that’s not the problem,” Leitch said when he was a guest on an upcoming episode of the Toolkit podcast to discuss “The Fall Guy.” “That was maybe the misconception for the Academy, ‘Well, these guys want awards because they...

As we predicted earlier this week, Luca Guadagnino’s Challengers is set to lead the box office this weekend, with Deadline reporting that it’s on track for a $15 million opening. While that’s a bit below the $17 million we forecasted for the film, that’s still a decent start for a character-driven drama, with the Zendaya-led film an Amazon-MGM production that’s set for an eventual debut on Prime Video. Indeed, the studio has had a lot more luck with launching their fare theatrically than many of their competitors, with Challengers opening similarly to Air and The Beekeeper, both Amazon-mgm movies whose theatrical success paved the way to big streaming numbers.
It certainly helps that Zendaya’s become a big star in the wake of Dune: Part Two’s blockbuster run this winter. However, whether the $50 million film is ultimately judged to be a box office success...

With things being so slow at the box office in the early going of 2024, you would half expect to hear people reporting sightings of tumbleweeds rolling across the floors of their local movie theaters. Praise to the cinema gods, May is finally arriving with a promising crop of tentpoles to help rejuvenate the marketplace, starting with director David Leitch's much-buzzed-about '80s series turned contemporary action-comedy "The Fall Guy" (you can read our own Jacob Hall's glowing review of the picture here). But never fear! If you're searching for something to watch at home, too, Netflix will provide in bountiful amounts.
Well, sort of.
Truth be told, next month is looking kind of sparse when it comes to Netflix exclusives outside the purview of shows with firmly established fandoms (see: the latest season of "Bridgerton") or the service's usual smattering of specialty offerings, including live comedy events and ongoing anime series.

Remember to eat your veggies, everyone! After seeing Emily Blunt‘s most recent red-carpet appearance, you might—or might not—get a craving for sweet potatoes, turnips, and radishes.
Following her regal look in Berlin, Emily Blunt made a quirky appearance at Tuesday’s Paris premiere of her latest action-comedy movie, The Fall Guy. She wore a vegetable-print ensemble that instantly attracted attention. I was charmed by her whimsical outfit, which her stylist Jessica Paster selected from Loewe’s Fall 2024 collection.
Inspired by the works of reclusive artist Albert York, the collection features bright themes that include picturesque rural landscapes, feminine florals, and vegetables. I love how these creative, innovative designs are infused in the collection’s avant-garde silhouettes.

Ryan Gosling joined Kelly McCormick, David Leitch and Emily Blunt at The Fall Guy premiere in Paris.
The film follows stuntman Colt (Gosling) after he abandons his career and girlfriend (Blunt) after a stunt goes terribly wrong.
Gosling sported the suit-with-no-tie look, Leitch showed off his tee with a suit, McCormick stunned in a blue floral dress, and Blunt sparkled in a silver gown with a gray suit.
The actor was nominated for best supporting actor for his role as Ken in the Barbie movie and performed “I’m Just Ken” at the Academy Awards wearing all pink.
At the 2024 Academy Awards ceremony, Gosling called out the Academy for failing to nominate Margot Robbie for her Barbie role and Greta Gerwig for directing the movie of the summer.

Emily Blunt and Ryan Gosling hit theaters in the coming weeks in The Fall Guy, which is David Leitch’s ode to the stuntmen and stuntwomen of the Hollywood film world. The practice is as old as film itself, and from Keanu Reeves to Gosling, many stars are happy to spotlight the immensely dangerous tasks that these physical performers should be recognized for. Blunt and Gosling are currently doing their promotional circuit for the film, and while they are paying tribute to the hard-working world of stunts, Blunt would also voice her displeasure of a newer practice that takes power away from human instinct and places it in the hands of technology.
According to Variety, Blunt and Gosling were recently profiled in Vanity Fair Italy for a cover story. Here, Blunt explained that algorithms are something she has come to hate. The actress stated,

Emily Blunt isn’t a fan of algorithm-driven cinema. Variety reports (via Vanity Fair Italy) that the actress and her “The Fall Guy” co-star Ryan Gosling are against studios letting data-crunching drive their creative choices. And Blunt thinks “Oppenheimer” is a good example of something an algorithm wouldn’t want to make, despite it being a box-office success and a huge Oscar winner.

It's no secret that the first third of 2024 has been at best uneven as far as the box office goes. Ticket sales are lagging way behind this same point in 2023, in no small part thanks to movies like "Abigail" and "The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare" underperforming on the same weekend. Thankfully, the summer movie season is on the horizon and Hollywood, as well as theater owners, will hinge their hopes on a varied slate being able to sell an outsized number of tickets. That all begins next weekend with the release of Universal's "The Fall Guy." The question is, can Ryan Gosling and Emily Blunt strike gold in the summer season once again after last year's Barbenheimer phenomenon?
"The Fall Guy" will be the first blockbuster to hit theaters in May, which typically ushers in the summer for Hollywood. Currently, the big-budget action/comedy is looking at an opening weekend in the $40 million range,...

Oppenheimer and The Fall Guy star Emily Blunt has some choice words about algorithm-based decision-making in Hollywood.
Don’t get Oppenheimer and The Fall Guy actor Emily Blunt started on algorithms. There may be some sectors of Hollywood that rely on computer programs to make filmmaking decisions, but Blunt is vocally opposed to the whole practice.
“Some new things frustrate me: algorithms, for example,” Blunt said in an interview with Vanity Fair Italy (via Variety). “I hate that fucking word, excuse the expletive! How can it be associated with art and content? How can we let it determine what will be successful and what will not?”
Blunt then went on to cite an example where AI-based number-crunching falls down: Oppenheimer. How could a computer predict that a slow-paced drama about a scientist and a big bomb become a billion dollar hit?

Said to be a mix of Top Gun and Back To The Future, T-Minus will be an expensive-sounding action thriller based on a Philip K Dick short story. Michael B Jordan will co-produce.
Michael B Jordan, who’s currently working with Ryan Coogler on his currently untitled horror movie, now has another major project in the works. Called T-Minus, it’ll be produced by Jordan through his company, Outlier Society, in partnership with Amazon MGM Studios.
The script will be co-written by Drew Pearce, who wrote the upcoming The Fall Guy, and Nick Cuse, writer of TV’s Watchmen and Masters Of The Air.
What’s really intriguing about T-Minus – for this writer at least – is that it’s based on a Philip K Dick short story, A Little Something For Us Tempunauts.
First published in 1974, it’s about three time travellers (the Tempunauts of the title) whose mission to...

Emily Blunt has expressed her disappointment over the increasing usage of algorithms in Hollywood to make projects. The landscape of the industry has changed a lot with technological advancements. However, Blunt doesn’t see it as a positive change and claims that a critically acclaimed film like Oppenheimer would not have been made if the producers trusted the algorithm.

Following the massively successful Oppenheimer, Emily Blunt is all set to appear alongside Ryan Gosling in The Fall Guy. They both took to an interview to suggest how the algorithm is slowly destroying the industry by getting involved in decision-making. Recently, director Brian Helgeland also stated that the Netflix algorithm foiled his plans for A Knight’s Tale sequel.

Outlier Society’s Michael B. Jordan and Elizabeth Raposo will produce with Pearce who is producing via his Point of No Return Films and Isa Dick Hackett via Electric Shepherd Productions.

The project was initially developed by Pearce’s banner Point of No Return Films. While plot details are being kept under wraps, T-Minus will be adapted from the Philip K. Dick sci-fi 1974 short story A Little Something for Us Tempunauts.

Emily Blunt seems staunchly opposed to algorithms making any decisions in Hollywood. Ahead of the release of her summer tentpole “The Fall Guy,” the Oscar nominee joined co-star Ryan Gosling for a Vanity Fair Italy cover story in which she expressed frustration over algorithm-driven decision making. Blunt pointed to Christopher Nolan’s “Oppenheimer” as the kind of gamble that an algorithm or data-crunching practices would probably advise not to make, given it’s a biopic with an R rating and a three-hour runtime that features no action scenes.
“Some new things frustrate me: algorithms, for example,” Blunt said. “I hate that fucking word, excuse the expletive! How can it be associated with art and content? How can we let it determine what will be successful and what will not?”

This weekend marks the last quiet at the box office before summer movie season kicks off with The Fall Guy. As such, it’s expected to be a relatively quiet weekend, with nothing expected to make a debut over the mid-to-high teens. Luca Guadagnino’s Challengers is expected to notch an easy win, thanks to the solid reviews (including our own) and the fact that it features one of the biggest stars of the moment, Zendaya. I’m expecting a debut in the $17 million-ish range, which would be a decent start for distributors Amazon-MGM, who will put the film out on Prime Video before too long.
Originally, Challengers was set for a fall 2023 start, but it was delayed because of the SAG-AFTRA strike. One could understand why, as Zendaya wouldn’t have been available to promote a movie which is earning her rave reviews. While the delay may...

Writer-director John Krasinski’s upcoming summer movie If already looks like it will have plenty of friends when hitting theaters.
The Paramount movie is tracking to open to $40 million-plus, or a range of $38 million to $42 million, an impressive figure for an original family film. And based on raw data, some box office pundits believe it has a shot at $45 million to $50 million.
Unaided awareness is well above average, as well as interest and first choice. For Paramount, the tracking numbers show that the studio is able to keep to the job at hand, versus getting stymied by talks of a looming sale.

Getting ready to hit the cinemas pretty soon, David Leitch’s The Fall Guy starring Ryan Gosling and Emily Blunt is kicking it off on a good note. Though the movie is still a week away from its official theatrical release, the first reviews are generally promising and The Fall Guy can even boast of a solid 88% on Rotten Tomatoes.
Despite all the stars aligning for the film’s success, not everything in the upcoming comedy is that funny — and one single joke currently makes the first viewers crash the entire movie.
The scene that makes everyone rage about it shows Game of Thrones and Ted Lasso’s star Hannah Waddingham walking into a trailer that looks extremely messy — apparently, after some kind of fight that happened in there.
Glancing the entire room over, Waddingham’s character notes “It's like Amber and Johnny were just in here.” The phrase comes...

Though Ryan Gosling’s latest hit Barbie may be the one with a lot of ways to go for sequels, Ken’s role is definitely not the one that most of the fans wanted the actor to reprise.
Before all the fuss with dolls, Gosling starred in a buddy action movie that eventually turned out to be quite a big hit with a plot flexible enough for expansion — but the actor’s recent update about the film’s future isn’t that promising.
Gosling is currently keeping busy with promoting his brand new movie The Fall Guy where he stars alongside Emily Blunt — and while the actor is pretty much open to talking about his role, journalists don’t skip an opportunity to get some more details about his previous works.

In a scene early in The Fall Guy, a nameless crewmember buckles Ryan Gosling’s seat belt as his character is about to attempt a cannon roll, a classic car stunt, on the set of a fictional science fiction movie called Metal Storm. Gosling plays Hollywood stuntman Colt Seavers, who is reluctantly returning to the film business after an injury, but in many ways the real star of the scene is the background actor buckling him in, Logan Holladay. Though his screen time lasts only a few moments, Holladay was the real-life stunt driver for Gosling — the one who actually steered a Jeep Grand Cherokee down a Sydney beach and rolled it eight and a half times on the sand, breaking the Guinness world record of seven rolls set by Adam Kirley, the driver of James Bond’s Aston Martin in 2006’s Casino Royale.

The Fall Guy cast is a perfect blend of some of Hollywood’s action and comedy stars. Directed by David Leitch, The Fall Guy is loosely based on the ABC action-adventure series of the early to mid-1980s. First announced in 2010, the movie had been in development hell for over a decade, with several other popular actors attached to the project at different times. Centered around a stuntman, The Fall Guy honors the underappreciated work of movie stunt performers. In The Fall Guy, when a movie star goes missing, the onus falls on the stuntman to find him and return him

Ryan Gosling weighed in on the chances of his fan-favorite movie The Nice Guys getting a sequel.
The 43-year-old Barbie actor starred in the 2016 movie alongside Russell Crowe.
There were reports that the series would continue with a spinoff TV series and even hints of a possible sequel back when it first premiered.
However, nearly a decade later Ryan is not very optimistic about anything happening. He explained how one other movie might have skewered plans to develop a franchise.

Speaking to ComicBook.com, Ryan explained that the movie’s chances for a sequel might have been destroyed by Angry Birds.
“So much of a sequel, I think, is decided by the opening weekend of a movie, and we opened up against Angry Birds,” he explained. “So Angry Birds just, just destroyed us. Angry Birds got a sequel.”

It’s not always easy to find out which movies are hitting theaters each week, especially after the Hollywood strikes led to many release date changes. With the WGA and actors strikes resolved and summer blockbusters starting to roll in, April is filled with both big budget flicks and new indie releases.
Premiering April 26 is Luca Guadagnino’s “Challengers,” a steamy sports drama about two tennis rivals competing for the attention of a renowned coach starring Zendaya, Mike Faist, Josh O’Connor and Darnell Appling. Also hitting theaters is “Boy Kills World,” a surreal action flick about an imaginative young boy trained to become a killer by a mysterious shaman starring Bill Skarsgård, Famke Janssen, Jessica Rothe and Michelle Dockery. Two films getting limited releases this week are “Breathe,” an action thriller about a mother and daughter trying to survive in a world without oxygen, and “Cinderella’s Revenge,” a bloody twist...

Jodie Comer, Aaron Taylor-Johnson and Ralph Fiennes are looking to take a bite out of 28 Years Later, with the actors joining the long-awaited sequel, The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed.
Danny Boyle is once again directing, after helming 2002’s 28 Days Later, which centered on a man (Cillian Murphy) who wakes up in the hospital to find the United Kingdom overtaken by a zombie plague. Civil War filmmaker Alex Garland, who penned the script, is back to write what is intended to be a trilogy of films for Sony. The original feature helped revive the zombie genre and already had a sequel, 2007’s 28 Weeks Later, which only nominally involved Boyle and Garland as executive producers.
Boyle and Garland will produce the new film with Andrew Macdonald, Peter Rice and Bernie Bellew. Original star Murphy will serve as executive producer.

Ryan Gosling is not a dumbass; heh heh, heh, heh heh heh, heh! Thanks in large part to a “Beavis and Butt-Head” sketch that went viral, Gosling’s “Saturday Night Live” episode is the most-watched “SNL” since late 2021.
Counting one week’s worth of delayed viewing (which is fine and normal but really helps when something goes viral) and all platforms, the April 13, 2024 telecast of “SNL” drew 8.9 million total viewers, according to NBC. That’s the most since Billie Eilish hosted the program on December 11, 2021.
The Gosling episode, for which he was promoting film “The Fall Guy,” is the most-watched “SNL” episode ever on Peacock. Gosling’s musical guest was Chris Stapleton.
On YouTube, 46 million users have “viewed a portion of the episode,” NBC said, the most since 2020. That’s an important specificity given the viral nature of the “Beavis and Butt-Head” sketch. In all, there were 170 million social-video views...

Exclusive: The new 28 Years Later trilogy from director Danny Boyle and Sony Pictures is gaining momentum, and some serious star power. Sources tell Deadline that Jodie Comer, Aaron Taylor-Johnson and Ralph Fiennes have boarded the first pic, a sequel to the original 28 Days Later.
Boyle is directing the first movie from a script by Alex Garland. Sony will release the film in theaters globally.
While plot details are vague, the original 28 Days Later in 2002 centered on a bicycle courier (played by Cillian Murphy) who wakes from a coma to discover the world had been overrun with zombies following the outbreak of a virus. The pic grossed more than $82 million worldwide and led to a 2007 sequel 28 Weeks Later, on which Boyle and Garland served solely as EPs.

As Ryan Gosling and Emily Blunt join forces on screen for the upcoming action flick The Fall Guy, their promotional efforts have also seen playful nods to their 2023 movies, which created a cultural phenomenon Barbenheimer.
And the light-hearted rivalry between the two actors appears poised to persist, at least that’s what it seems from the Barbie star’s reaction to a reporter sharing his preference for the Christopher Nolan film over the Oscar-nominated movie.

[Editor’s note: The following interview contains minor spoilers for “The Fall Guy.”]
David Leitch’s “The Fall Guy” has it all. Drama, action, romance, Taylor Swift. As the film’s Super Bowl trailer delighted in telling potential audience members, the upcoming Ryan Gosling- and Emily Blunt-starring feature is packed with a little something for everyone. And, yes, that includes Gosling crying to Taylor Swift’s “All Too Well” during one of the film’s funniest (and most emotional) sequences, one that’s on full display in that second trailer.
But it wasn’t always going to be Swift’s song that made Gosling’s character cry. During a recent interview with producer Kelly McCormick (who is also Leitch’s wife), she revealed to IndieWire there was another choice on the table.
“It wasn’t actually [always going to be a Swift song], but it wasn’t going to be the song that we were playing [during shooting], because it was not right for their romance,” McCormick told IndieWire.

Ryan Gosling is revealing why sequel ideas for “The Nice Guys” flew the coop.
The Oscar-nominated actor reflected on the Shane Black-helmed 2016 dark comedy that was rumored to land a follow-up. However, according to Gosling, there was no “The Nice Guys” sequel due to animated film “The Angry Birds Movie” taking over their shared box office weekend.
Turns out, “Barbenheimer” isn’t the only double feature that Gosling has been a part of.
“So much of a sequel, I think, is decided by the opening weekend of a movie, and we opened up against ‘Angry Birds’,” Gosling told Comic Book. “So ‘Angry Birds’ just destroyed us. ‘Angry Birds’ got a sequel.”
“The Angry Birds Movie” had more than three times the opening weekend box office gross as “The Nice Guys,” with “Angry Birds” landing $38 million and “The Nice Guys” being at $11.2 million. The feature was made with an estimated...

Actor Ryan Gosling has an eclectic set of movies in his filmography, which has made him a versatile actor. Though the actor had his breakthrough with the romance flick The Notebook, he has branched out to action, comedy, sci-fi, and drama. Gosling was recently nominated for an Oscar for his performance as Ken in Greta Gerwig’s Barbie.
One of Gosling’s most underrated performances is the Shane Black-directed black comedy The Nice Guys. The neo-noir comedy sees him play a detective in the ‘70s along with Russell Crowe. Though the film is a cult classic now, it was a commercial failure. Gosling mentioned that the success of the animated movie The Angry Birds Movie ruined The Nice Guys’ chance for a sequel.

Shane Black’s 2016 comedy thriller The Nice Guys didn’t perform well enough to qualify for a sequel, and its co-star Ryan Gosling says the culprit was Angry Birds.
Those surprised by Ryan Gosling’s Oscar-nominated comedy turn in last year’s Barbie almost certainly missed The Nice Guys – writer-director Shane Black’s drily funny thriller from 2016. Co-starring with Russell Crowe, Gosling played Holland March, the worst private detective ever according to his own daughter, played by Angourie Rice.
Despite its two stars and some upbeat reviews behind it, The Nice Guys failed to catch on in cinemas, only making a shade over its $50m budget in ticket sales.
