I happened upon this wonderful little short film at the Sedona Int'l Film Festival (Feb. 2011) with a theater full of locals. The story of a young artist in Venice, CA who has nightmares of the red rocks of Arizona. She puts the crazy images to canvas, which prompts her to venture to Sedona in search of some explanation. What she discovers is bittersweet, but fulfilling. CONVERGENCE is visually arresting, especially once we get to Sedona. Stephanie Silver ("Heather") carries the first ten minutes or so without a spoken word. Her compelling silent performance draws us intimately into her soul. Once in Sedona, her scenes with Hamilton Mitchell ("Tom") reveal the mystery of her journey, and she breaks our heart. There wasn't a dry eye around me. Mitchell seems to be an old pro, so comfortable in the role. He connects with Silver with ease. They're both completely authentic in their roles, and they make a great team. Randall Fontana's poignant writing and subtle direction propel the story beautifully to its final freeze frame of spiritual peace. What can I say, this one really surprised me... it got me.
