Fantasy games are one of the most popular genres in the world of gaming, and soon they will include the upcoming horror title The Axis Unseen. Despite that fact, the majority of fantasy games are infested with RPG settings. Be it Elden Ring, Baldur’s Gate, Elder Scrolls, or Dragon Age, it’s all about role-playing action.
This fantasy action-adventure title is not going to be like any other fantasy RPG. However, The Axis Unseen holds uncanny similarities with The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim but obviously has some unique aspects.

One of the most successful strategies that Sony implemented over these two generations of consoles were the PlayStation exclusives. These titles generate a lot of sales for the platforms. Games like Marvel’s Spider-Man, The Last of Us, and God of War have made consoles like the PS4 one of the most popular and sold gaming platforms ever.
Connie Booth was a key part of this strategy; this executive left Sony last year and now joins EA in a similar position. The title that Booth will have in EA is Group General Manager Action RPG.

The “graphics don’t matter” argument always makes me a little sad. Though there is some truth in that stance, it is often triggered by the views of those who overvalue raw gaming visuals or otherwise believe games can’t be great if they don’t have top-of-the-line graphics. Perhaps a game doesn’t need incredible graphics to be great but incredible graphics certainly have the power to elevate or define tremendous experiences. They are a vital component of the evolution of the medium.

In case you haven’t heard, the Writer’s Guild of America is currently on strike over a variety of issues that include better pay and better job security. The strike most obviously impacts TV series and movies that employ WGA members, though the strike itself has everyone in the entertainment industry talking.
Most recently, David Gaider decided to weigh in on the subject of the value of writers in the current entertainment economy. For those who don’t know, Gaider is a veteran video game writer who broke into the industry by writing for BioWare. His work on titles such as Baldur’s Gate 2, Neverwinter Nights, and Knights of the Old Republic has been widely praised, though it’s Gaider’s extensive work on the Dragon Age series that often defines his legacy thus far. He is, generally speaking, often closely associated with the golden age of BioWare games.

"Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves" is a triumph for fantasy movies. This is a film that embraces the absurdity, the playfulness, and the chaos of playing arguably the most popular tabletop fantasy RPG of all time, or at least the best-known one. It is a hilarious film that avoids snarky, meta and campy humor, but instead has humor that's fully about characters being earnest in funny and extraordinary situations.
The "Dungeons & Dragons" movies is also full of wonderful fantasy creatures, including plenty of great practical effects creatures that feel out of the "Dark Crystal" TV show. What's more, the movie even includes some of the more esoteric creatures we can only see in a "Dungeons & Dragons" movie, like the intellect devourers, the mimics, and the gelatinous cube.

Alix Wilton Regan’s main success so far in her career has come in the world of video games, having lent her vocal abilities to gaming franchises ranging from Assassin’s Creed, to Dragon Age to recently playing Keanu Reeves’ partner in Cyberpunk 2077. But that could soon change, and her face is likely to become just as recognisable as her voice, if her latest turn if anything to go by, as she impresses greatly in a nuanced display as Mary Shelley, in A Nightmare Wakes.
We had the pleasure of speaking to the London-based actress to discuss this project in great length, as well as looking back over another accomplished turn alongside none other than Glenn Close in The Wife. We also speak about her history in voice over work, and on what the future may hold, and just how she’s managed to get by across the events of the last 12 months.

The Game Awards 2020 concluded its cavalcade of celebrity cameos, The Last of Part 2 awards, and Fortnite cameo reveals with a teaser trailer for BioWare’s next entry into the Mass Effect franchise.
The trailer doesn’t offer many details (another trend of the evening), but it does feature some sweeping views of space coupled with grand ramblings that conclude with an Asari digging through the snow of an ice planet and uncovering a remnant of discarded N7 armor. The implication is that this is Shepard’s armor and that we’re viewing the aftermath of Mass Effect 3‘s stunning conclusion which seemingly unraveled the fabric of the Mass Effect universe.
The trailer concludes with the Mass Effect title card hovering above the text “will continue.” It’s designed to be a teaser for the next Mass Effect game, but at this point, it’s starting to feel like more of a threat.

It’s been a little while since we’ve gotten an update on the next Dragon Age game, but BioWare was good enough to check in at The Game Awards 2020 with this teaser trailer for the studio’s next RPG:
In true Dragon Age fashion (at least as far as this project is concerned) the trailer doesn’t give us much to work with. Don’t you just love the endless teasing of a high-profile game? Doesn’t that always justify the drawn-out hype rather than lead to titles that fail to live up to overblown expectations or the burdens of years worth of anticipation?
The biggest takeaway from this trailer is the official return of Solas; a character whose involvement was only hinted at during Dragon Age‘s 2018 teaser. Solas is a hedge mage who played a major role in Dragon Age: Inquisition as both a companion and potential romance option.

The Xbox Series X and Series S are Microsoft’s next-gen consoles that will bring all-new graphics, faster load times, and plenty of ways to enjoy all of the games you love digitally through Xbox Game Pass, the Smart Delivery system, and backward compatibility. We’ve learned quite a bit about the Xbox Series X and Series S’s impressive specs as well as what the consoles look like. In fact, based on what we know so far, it looks like the Xbox Series X will be very stiff competition for Sony’s PlayStation 5.
But console wars always come down to one thing: the games. The Xbox Series X and Series S already has quite a few first-party and third-party titles in its lineup, including flagship titles like Halo Infinite, Avowed, and the new Fable. What else do you have to look forward to playing on the Xbox Series X?...

Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic, BioWare’s repeatedly celebrated contribution to the sci-fi franchise, turns an impressive 20-years-old in 2023 and one fan, clearly conscious of how long it takes to produce a worthwhile video game, is already registering his interest in a potential remake. Connor Heggie has started a petition over on Change.org, calling not for a third game in the series, but a remake of the 2003 original.
Unfortunately for Heggie, however, his campaign has yet to really get off the ground, with, as of writing, only 4,125 recorded signatures. Nothing to scoff at, of course, but it’s a far cry from the 100k+ names that Christen Adler has so far managed to obtain for his drive to make EA and Dice create more content for Star Wars Battlefront II. During the Gamescom opening ceremony, BioWare surprisingly showcased an extensive breakdown of Dragon Age 4.
The footage in question is largely a blend of developer interviews and very early test footage. We’re going to emphasize “early” here as it seems that BioWare is very much still working on Dragon Age 4 and that you shouldn’t expect to play the game for a long time.
The heart of the matter, though, is that it sounds like BioWare intends for Dragon Age 4 to be a return to RPG form for the company after they’ve spent the last few years controversially working on Anthem and other titles that many felt was below their historic standards.
At the heart of that potential return to form is the idea that Dragon Age 4 will rely heavily on player choice. BioWare says that choices in Dragon Age 4 be drastic enough to potentially dictate whether or not...

A report from Bloomberg reveals that former Ubisoft executive Serge Hascoët is responsible for the cancellation of a King Arthur project led by Dragon Age creative director Mike Laidlaw.
The report (which is currently behind a paywall) indicates that Laidlaw was hired by Ubisoft sometime around 2018 to work on an RPG project known as Avalon. With the help of Assassin’s Creed Odyssey developers Ubisoft Québec, Laidlaw intended to create an expansive fantasy world based on the legends of King Arthur and the Knights of the Round Table.
It seems that Laidlaw and the team at Ubisoft Québec also intended to base elements of Avalon‘s gameplay on Capcom’s Monster Hunter series. For instance, Avalon was supposed to feature cooperative multiplayer options which would have allowed players to traverse the game’s world together.

With all this extra downtime, publishers have begun doing their bit to help keep folks happy and entertained while they’re stuck indoors. Last year, Dark Horse Comics adapted William Gibson's unproduced Alien 3 screenplay as a five-issue comic book series, and now they're teaming up with 20th Century Fox to give the same treatment to Dan O’Bannon's original Alien screenplay, which, as diehard Alien fans know, is different from the version that came to life on the big screen in 1979.
Written by Cristiano Seixas and based on O’Bannon's original screenplay for Alien (which also included story ideas that O’Bannon worked on with Ronald Shusett), Alien: The Original Screenplay will be a five-issue series featuring artist Guilherme Balbi and colorist Candice Han.
Originally known under titles such as Memory and Star Beast, the screenplay for Alien would go on to have many different drafts before filming began, changing and reconfiguring certain storylines from O’Bannon's initial version. Alien: The Original Screenplay seeks to preserve O’Bannon's initial vision for the classic film,...

The beloved manga series “Fullmetal Alchemist” has had quite a life beyond the pages. Though the original series ran from 2001 through 2010, it has produced two anime series — “Fullmetal Alchemist,” the loose adaptation, and “Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood,” a more faithful retelling — a series of light novels, an audio drama, five video games and soon, a live-action adaptation, featuring an all-Japanese cast.

Japanese entertainment publication Daily Cyzo (via Crunchy Roll) indicates that a live-action film adaptation of Hiromu Arakawa's action-fantasy manga "Fullmetal Alchemist" is currently in development.
Fumihiko Sori ("Dragon Age: Dawn of the Seeker," "Vexille") will direct the film, while "Hey! Say! Jump" member Ryosuke Yamada will star as Edward Elric. The production will make heavy use of CG to recreate the fantastic elements of the comic such as Alphonse Elric's armor.
Hiromu Arakawa created the original manga which is set in a world styled after the European Industrial Revolution, a world where alchemy is an advanced scientific technique. The action follows two brothers searching for a philosopher's stone to restore their bodies after a failed attempt to bring their mother back to life using alchemy.
The Fullmetal Alchemist manga has sold approximately 64 million volumes worldwide. It has been adapted into two anime television series, two animated films. Filming on...

When it comes to talking about fan's attachment to BioWare's extended universes, it's tough to talk about Dragon Age without at least thinking about the RPG developer's other major IP, Mass Effect. It's clear that the latter has a dedicated and often vocal fanbase with a great deal of attachment to Shepard's journey aboard the Normandy these past few years. At the same time, it's hard to imagine (or find) the same kind of obsessive clamor for the studio's dark fantasy RPG series.
Nevertheless, here we are talking about an animated expansion of the Dragon Age universe in Dawn of the Seeker. And while there's some nice technical gloss on this CG feature from director Vexille director Fumihiko Sori, this 90-minute film fails to make a convincing case for why one should care about BioWare's fantasy IP.
The film follows Cassandra, a Seeker (essentially a knight), who accidentally sniffs out...

With all the furor surrounding Mass Effect 3′s ending, EA have come out with some further sombre news regarding their now almost forgotten fantasy RPG, Dragon Age II. When asked on Twitter about whether the game would be getting an Ultimate Edition, the game’s executive producer Mark Darrah replied:
‘retailers have to be willing to take it. There isn’t any retail interest Atm.’
There it is then, it would appear that the game has breathed its last commercial breath. While by no means an awful game, Dragon Age II was heavily criticised upon release for simplifying the intricate gameplay and storyline that made Dragon Age: Origins so popular. The game sold poorly compared to expectations, and was quickly condemned to bargains bins at most major game retailers. On the bright side, rather than waste time flogging this dead horse, Bioware can now look ahead to making the...

Bioware has cancelled the planned Dragon Age 2: The Exalted March Dlc that was supposed to be released sometime this spring and have officially moved on to the next Dragon Age game.
Mark Darrah the executive producer of the Dragon Age series had this to say:
“While we will still be keeping an eye out for any issues that might crop up in Daii and supporting the community should any emergencies should arise, we’re moving the entire team’s focus to the next phase of Dragon Age’s future.
“You’ve most certainly heard the rumors floating around, and unfortunately I can’t really comment on them, However, what I can say is that we’ve been thinking a lot about Dragon Age – what it means, and where it could go. This past year, we’ve spent a lot of time both going back to the ‘BioWare vault’ of games and re-examining them,...

The premiere of the sure to be fanboy/girl favorite original companion web series to video game publisher BioWare’s role-playing title Dragon Age II went live late last night/early this morning on Machinima’s YouTube channel. The first of six installments of Dragon Age: Redemption introduces us to our star Felicia Day’s character Tallis, an ‘knife eared’ Elvin assassin in moderately protective fantasy armor with crazy skills on the hunt for the dangerous and recently escaped Qunari mage Cerebus. Take a look: In addition to slaughtering pigs and humans in front of the camera, Day contributed a helluva lot to the series behind the camera, too. She wrote Redemption, executive produced the series along with Kim Evey and Dan Kaplow, and her Knights of Good Productions (the same crew behind her uber-hit web series The Guild) took on the physical production duties of the program. We caught...

Dragon Age II will be able to import saves from the original game. Although BioWare has previously announced that characters from Dragon Age: Origins won't carry over, decisions that were made in the game will impact the world in the sequel. "We look at it as importing the world really. I've always seen Dragon Age as a franchise about more than any one character," lead designer Mike Laidlaw told NowGamer. "It's about an entire span (more)...

Back in July, North American anime distributor FUNimation announced via press release that they had signed a deal with Electronic Arts subsidiary BioWare to create an animated film based on the Dragon Age video game franchise. Today comes word that Fumihiko Sori, director of Ping Pong (2002), Vexille (2007), and Ichi (2008), will direct.
The film will mark FUNimation’s first foray into original anime movie productions, having announced the initiative back in November of 2009.
BioWare launched the Dragon Age franchise late last year with the highly-anticipated release of their fantasy RPG “Dragon Age: Origins”. The game featured a fairly derivative RPG story and common gameplay mechanics, but was buoyed by BioWare’s typical acute attention to detail and an usual emphasis on freedom of choice, giving players the option to be good, neutral, or evil—or even gay, straight, or bisexual—based entirely on their own actions within the game.
