A disconcerting little horror short
Corpus_Vile8 May 2011
Sylvie (an impressive and creepy performance from child actor Lee Eden) has a strange eye condition. It makes her see things probably best not seen. Such as the hideous monsters who visit her. Her artist sister doesn't really seem to have much time for her, but Sylvie isn't bothered, as she can do her own thing... such as approach other kids, and lead them away with her.

Sylvie doesn't have much time for her sister either, and may very well have her own plans for her....

This film is a 14 minute short that played at the Edinburgh Dead By Dawn festival. It's not a particularly logical film, and is more interested in getting under the viewer's skin with arresting visuals, and a dreamy atmosphere, or nightmarish to be more precise.

However, it certainly achieves this, with some stand out and quite effective individual scenes, some of which stayed with me after it ended.

Overall, an impressive enough debut for director Valerie Khoudari Ratner, who was at the screening and who came across as a very nice and unassuming lady.

I'll be keeping an eye out for her output in future, as I quite liked this one, due to its style and great performance from Lee Eden. 8/10, definitely held my attention for a short film.
