A Funny or Die sketch on the making a spoof porn
Rodrigo_Amaro7 April 2020
I can't remember what actually got me here but Funny or Die somehow convinced me (as they usually do). There isn't much to be said about this sketch, a behind the scenes from a porn movie that spoofs "Seinfeld" starring James Deen and others. Hal Rudnick interviews the stars from the movie actually thinking he's doing an exclusive report about a possible Seinfeld reunion.

The clueless reporter keeps interviewing the porn stars as if they were indeed Seinfeld, Julia Louis-Dreyfus, Jason Alexander and Michael Richards, not only with asks about the show, the "excitment" about their return but also makes questions about other things that happened with the actual actors during their years after "Seinfeld" (such as the infamous racist incident with Richards with hecklers during a stand-up routine).

As a humor formula it works since Rudnick is totally in the game of being totally unaware of where he's at - but since it's a sketch about the behind the scenes of a real porn movie they don't go deeper and harder into what appears in the movie (though you can see how exactly a porn spoof is bizarrely actractive to viewers where you can get famous characters and mix them into a sexual scenario mixed with the show's routine. The actor playing George does resemble Jason Alexander).

But if we have to measure the content basic on a scale between being funny or to just die, the sketch isn't near death but it's not hilariously funny; it's just amusing. Funny or Die has better things, specially ones with movie stars - I guess porn stars though fun individuals or ones that can easily made fun of, they provide much bite or timing for humor, or at least get more in the spirit of the comedy brand (there's some nice exchange between Hal and one of the actresses). It's harmless and you can enjoy the little time spent here with some laughs. 6/10
