Good!

A bit overdramatic, but overall it goes into several very interesting spots in history, and the historical recreations are great! I especially liked the H. H. Holmes episode, and the one about the Johnstown flood. Those are two little known but absolutely riveting pieces of history!

Good but could be better

They are half hour episodes that have re-enactments, it is titled I Was There because it tries to take you there. That aspect is fun to see the recreation. On the other hand thirty minutes is not enough time to cover some stories and seems like too much for other stories. The episode on the Salem witch trials covers through the first trial and then skips the trial and says this is the first person to be hanged. Ending the episode with 20 people died and the standard of evidence for courts changed forever after that. It literally skipped over the actual witch trials and focused on the events leading to them. That episode should have been longer than 30 minutes. Where as the Hindenburg episode was mostly speculation because nobody truly knows what happened. I don't feel a need for a half hour show devoted to theories that have no impacted on today's world. The Hindenburg was a tragedy but I don't know that it left any lasting effect on society. So it's a mix some episodes are good others are too short and others seem too long.

I love this show!
I love this show! It's a fascinating and immersive approach to teaching people about some of the incredible events of our history. It's incredibly interesting and exciting, as the host Theo Wilson walks the audience through the event as though you (and he) are there at the time it takes place.

I really hope it continues! It's perfect for all ages to learn, sort of firsthand, what happened.

Very entertaining

I don't know what it is but I really like this host. Have been very entertained by this show. This is a home run and I'm a very harsh critic. The Salem witch trails was good as well as the hindenberg disaster. The host was really good and wrapped it up nicely.

Riveting

This is such a tight, streamlined show without lots of boring, meandering filler. It is able to methodically break down and explain how historical events happened, step by step, in an entertaining and educational format. The episodes are nicely condensed and get right to the core of what happened--why, when, and how--with the advantage that time, distance and hindsight provides. Of course, you will learn more in a 10-hour miniseries. But if you have 20 minutes to spare, you will come away with greater knowledge than before, which may pique your curiosity to learn about history in even more depth.

History Channel does it again! I've watched all 8 episodes and will watch them again. Theo Wilson is excellent and he does make you feel as if you're there! I love documentaries and anything that is about our true past. Keep them coming!

Interesting

I couldn't give a title because. I didn't know how to title this series.

I came across it by accident, I download everything I can lay my hands on, because I live in Ireland; and don't have access to knowledgeable programmes.

I have no idea who the presenter is, apparently he is mainstream on something or other, (I'm 64).

A reviewer wasn't impressed, and said so. That is their right. However, I disagree. The point is missed.

History is what came before us. There is much history. Not all of it is recorded, and what is, can be lost.

This series shows historic events, in snapshots (the modern way), and in some instances, gives information that wasn't know previous.

Remember this, There is no one alive who fought in WW1. Soon, there will be no one alive who fought in WW2. THAT is OUR history.

AND, what appears to be conviently forgotten is, if memory serves; the show host is a decendent of The Tuskeeges. I'm still only an Irishman however, they earn my admiration.

Many hear about the Battle of Britain, few hear about The Tuskeeges. I believe there were two movies made about them. I've watched both. If there are more, or documentaries about these brave men? I'd like to see them.

I am a human, so were they. I haven't saved our world, they did. And don't you EVER forget that.

Narration
lihei135 June 2022
The narration and interviews that underpins this over dramatised retelling of historical events is off putting to the point that I just can't bear the watch an entire episode, despite my passion for such stories. Less of the drama and entertainment and just gives us the scholarly facts.

Another dull show
cdeanroane15 March 2022
From the unknow host to the retelling of events from history this is just dull. There is nothing said in this show that one can easily look up and get even more detailed facts and insight into then offered here. The History Channel is really scrapping the bottom of the barrel with the reenactments! There was a time where the History Channel offered some really great shows with lots of details, but with this you get people who are only known cause of their social media accounts.
