‘Intelligent’ mosquitoes and slacker demons were lurking at the third European edition of the genre film market in Brussels.
Despite last week’s terror attacks in Brussels, the show went on at Fantasia’s Frontières International Co-Production Market for genre films at the Brussels International Fantastic Film Festival.
For its third European edition, the market curated one of its strongest selections to date, including Baskin director Can Evrenol’s Housewife. This time, Evrenol will focus on a woman who struggles with a traumatic family history and slowly loses her grip on reality.
Another stand-out was Amanda Kramer’s Drain You, adapted from her own novel of the same name.
Executive produced by Poltergeist remake director Gil Kenan, producer Rebecca Rose Perkins described the project as an “Lgbt grunge horror” and “Blue Is The Warmest Colour meets It Follows”. Set in La, it follows a teenager who falls in lust with a sexy older girl and becomes ensnared...

When the Nostromo landed on planet Lv-426 in Ridley Scott’s Alien, the only sign of life was one of the universe’s most dangerous creatures, and as fans of the films know, a failed colonization on the planet took place after Dallas and his crew paid it a visit. Christopher Golden explores how that society was overrun in Alien: River of Pain, and Titan Books has given us an excerpt to share with Daily Dead readers.

The Glasgow Film Theatre prepares to welcome guests. Photo: GFF14
After an impressive build-up provided by the Glasgow Youth Film Festival and the Glasgow Short Film Festival (for which we still have reviews coming in), the main Glasgow Film Festival opened its doors on Thursday night for the UK gala première of Wes Anderson's eagerly anticipated The Grand Budapest Hotel. Screening to an invited audience of movers and shakers in the Scottish film industry, the film was a big hit, backing up its success at the recent Berlinale. It was introduced with a short video from the director, and members of the public got to see it the following afternoon, with an equally positive response. It opens across the UK on the 7th of March.

The thing with making a movie about waiters is, you're bound to have a lot of chefs in the kitchen.
Joe Dinicol, star of the Canadian comedy Servitude — about one waiter's crazy last night on the job — confirms that "a good 90 to 95 percent" of the film's cast had waiting experience, as did writer Mike Sparaga and director Warren P. Sonoda.
"It's really the only thing we're qualified to do other than acting, if we're at all qualified to do that in the first place," says the 28-year-old Stratford, Ontario, native. He's been acting since he played Antony and Cleopatra's son at the Stratford Shakespeare Festival in 1993; he's also waited or bussed tables at many restaurants in that time, including Toronto's Gladstone Hotel and Mildred's Temple Kitchen.
But, says Dinicol, the cast's waiting experience only made Servitude a better film. "It brought up a lot of stories and memories and...

There's wish fulfillment and then there's Servitude, a homegrown comedy about the sometimes humiliating, often frustrating lot that is being a server and one young man's decision to say enough's enough.
Boasting an impressive cast led by Dave Foley, Joe Dinicol, John Bregar, Aaron Ashmore, Kristen Hager and Enrico Colantoni, the staff at a failing Western-themed restaurant run by a bumbling drunk has the last laugh as they finally give the spoiled brats, Blackberry-fixated businessmen and arrogant, ungrateful customers a piece of their minds in a wild night no one will ever forget.
You've watched the trailer and our own on-set visit and now we're bringing you the final poster of a movie that tells you, fists raised, to nut up and get your shift together!
Check it out!

What better way to celebrate Canada's birthday than a brand new trailer for an hilarious homegrown comedy? Okay...maybe you prefer fireworks, but I'll take giggling over "Kids in the Hall" vet Dave Foley any day. Maple Pictures' Servitude stars Foley and relative newcomer Joe Dinicol (Passchendaele, Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World) in a tale of frustrated waiters at a kitschy steakhouse. After finding out they're all to be fired, they decide to take over their restaurant for one final, glorious, revenge-filled night. Cue a ton of shenanigans, hijinx and enough pointed humour to make anyone in the customer service industry jealous. Along for the ride are a ton of familiar Canuck faces from Enrico Colantoni to Margot Kidder and Aaron Ashmore.
The film is scheduled to be screened at Montreal's Just for Laughs Film Festival on July 28 but until then, check out the brand new trailer and posters after the jump!

1. Transformers: Dark of The Moon: Grad C
Another bland poster, but at the very least we can make out some of the details of Optimus Prime. Usually in images for Transformers films, the robots look like a hulking mound of scrap metal.
2. John Carter: Grade B-
As much as I like red, I think this poster would be better without it. A simple off-center image against a black background might be nicer.
3. Servitude: Grade B
Dave Foley, the consummate Canadian funny man, in a ten gallon hat, and a belt buckle the size of a dinner plate. It’s hard not to appreciate that.
4. Crazy Stupid Love: Grade C+
The separation between art and promotion at times can be maddening for one who simply appreciates poster art, this is a good example. The image is provocative and fun, but at the bottom of the poster we see...
