Only one word can describe how I felt when I walked out of the screening theater: WOW. This movie wasn't just an amazingly scary film (which it is), but it was an astonishing film! This movie had the perfect blend of thrill, horror, and comedy. The comedy was not cheesy, nor unfitting. It was placed in the perfect spots of the first 40% of the film. Afterwards, the humor decreased and got more stern: which I enjoyed.
The horror wasn't like I thought it would be. This movie proves you don't need stupid gore and loud noises to scare you. The score of the film, already frightening by itself, was the most body cringing thing mixed in with the long and awaiting camera shots. In a particular scene, (which I will not name do to spoilers) a figure is seen in a shocking jump, then the ERRIEST, repetitive music played, it was SO intense I just wanted to tear my hair out! I can't remember when I've been so scared. The actor's acting made it so much more believable. If I hadn't read the script, I would have thought the whole movie was real. The actors were AMAZING.
And the final, and best part, this film's story line. You may think that a group of kids recording in a haunted house with camcorder sounds familiar (which it does), but I've never seen a film more original. The plot twist and use of foreshadowing is one the most excellent things I'v seen in a movie.
I've always enjoyed writer and director Jacob Drenick's work, (such as a comedy-action like Not-So-Super Girl), but I was skeptical about him doing a horror. But I was more than impressed with him in this movie, and I hope he continues to make more.
The many great things in this movie, as of horror, humor, plot, acting, directing, special effects..., just to name a few, this movie exceeded my expectations by A LONG SHOT. Again, the only thing I can say about this movie is... WOW.
