So, WWE actually did it. They pulled the trigger on Triple H, catapulting the Game to his 14th World Title reign (and second Royal Rumble victory, an astounding fourteen years after the first). An eventual WrestleMania showdown with a certain Mr. Reigns seems to be on the horizon – but what’s in store for the Cerebral Assassin until then?
Initially, it may seem as though WWE have telegraphed their next few months of programming. Triple H and Roman Reigns are sure to sling barbs at one another, hinting at a climactic confrontation on the grandest stage of all. However, there’s no shortage of other opponents for the King of Kings to face – either in the run-up to ‘Mania, or at the event itself (if WWE do a major U-turn and again take Roman away from the title scene for fear of a fan backlash).

Curtis Axel has been revealed as the second participant into this year’s 30-man WWE Royal Rumble.
He follows Big Show into the confirmed list of names after the Giant entered himself on last week’s Raw.
WWE.com made the Curtis Axel announcement this weekend with the following teaser;
Big Show emerged on Raw to become the first competitor in this year’s 30-man melee, and we’ve since learned that Curtis Axel — who claims he was never eliminated from last year’s Royal Rumble Match — will also enter the fray (even though he evidently never left it). Which other Superstars will announce their participation in the weeks ahead? Expect more Royal Rumble news on Raw.
After how WWE turned Axel never being eliminated from last year’s Rumble into an angle which sadly never lived up to its potential, you can pretty much be rest assured...

The Royal Rumble pay per view, as a whole, was a disaster of epic proportions.
The undercard was non existent and the Rumble match itself was uninspiring. The surprising returns, for all their nostalgic value, didn’t hit the heights of previous years while too many stale performers, the likes of Curtis Axel, R-Truth and Adam Rose took the places of hungry Nxt superstars who should have been given a chance to showcase their skills.
The Rock’s ‘surprise’ appearance was publicised (with the obvious ploy to get more network subscription) which made his return to the ring something of an anticlimax. And at the end of the day, who didn’t see Roman Reigns picking up the win?
The event left the WWE Universe in attendance, and those watching on the WWE Network undoubtedly too, up in arms at the farce they had just witnessed. A chorus...

During the Smackdown tapings on Tuesday night, a vignette aired featuring The Ascension. If you watch Nxt with any regularity then you know that Konnor and Viktor make up the dominant tag team that are the former Nxt Tag Team Champions. The have deserved a spot on the main WWE roster for a very long time, so it’s good to see that it’s finally going to happen for them.
They have a big match on Thursday night on the Nxt Takeover special that they’re going to lose, so it makes sense to put the vignette on Smackdown, which airs the next night.
There was no specific date announced for their debut although I think the right time would be the first Raw of the year on January 5th.
That first Raw of the year is typically a big show for WWE because people have gone...

WWE will wrap up a year that began with such potential and is ending with disappointment with its TLC pay-per-view on December 14. The sixth instalment of this PPV will include matches with each of the signature gimmicks the event traditionally boasts: a chairs match, a ladder match, a tables match and a TLC contest that incorporates all three weapons.
Those with a decent sense of history know that TLC matches go back several years further than the PPV does. The TLC match between Dean Ambrose and Bray Wyatt will actually be the 16th (or 17th, depending on your point of view) such match in WWE. The first several tables, ladders & chairs matches defined several wrestlers’ careers and raised the bar in terms of performance, risk-taking and overall workmanship.
The TLC match itself has become one of WWE’s signature gimmick matches, right up there with Royal Rumble, Survivor Series,...

The shocking release of Alberto Del Rio is the talk of the wrestling business this week. It happened suddenly late Thursday afternoon when a post appeared on WWE.com announcing that he had been fired due to “unprofessional conduct and an altercation with an employee.” No specifics were given.
While the details about his release are sketchy at this point, the news item that seems to be legit is that he hit a WWE.com employee in the head and was fired for it. It will be discussed in more detail later on, but for now all we can do is reflect on his career in WWE.
Del Rio’s a guy that won a lot right away. He’s a 4-time WWE World Champion (two times WWE Title, two times World Title) that main evented several PPVs along the way. He feuded with all the biggest names in the company too.

When the WWE no longer needs its roster to be large enough to sustain a thirty-man main event after the Royal Rumble, a clean-out is never far off.
Every year, the dead weight of the WWE roster are wished well in their ‘future endeavors’ as they are released from this contract. After this, all bets are off – some have gone on to redefine themselves and come back better, whilst others have languished in the small time or retired straight off.
Who will join the ranks of the ‘future endeavored’ this year?
8. Jtg
In the far-flung-future, wrestling fans will ask, ‘where were you when Jtg got his marching orders?’ Despite making only the scarcest of appearances in the WWE (in 2013, Jtg has wrestled in seven televised matches, all of which were on Superstars), the cult of Jtg and his continued employment remains strong. A quick google search of ‘is Jtg still employed?...

If you tuned into the 1000th episode of WWE Raw on Monday night then you were privy to the awesome news:
The Rock, The People’s Champion, The Great One will return once again at Royal Rumble in January for a championship match against…well against whoever is the WWE Champion in January. The Rock cooked it, and we smelled it and yay, it was good.
It was an exciting revelation for two reasons: 1, any match The Rock is in is bound to be electrifying (that’s like his whole thing), and 2, could this represent a renewed commitment to the sport by the Brahma Bull? If he wins the title, that then leads me to pose the question ‘does he stay in the WWE, at least for now?’
This revelation has got us excited! We compiled a run-down of the three most likely opponents to face The Rock at next...

Otunga Returns To Lawyer Roots
Jennifer Hudson's fiance David Otunga returned to his roots as a lawyer on Thursday to represent a man who felt he had been wrongly terminated from his job.
The wrestler, who obtained his degree from Harvard Law School, has largely distanced himself from his former life as an attorney since entering the entertainment business and becoming a celebrated fighter.
But Otunga returned to the courtroom this week (begs23Jan12) and appeared before a judge on behalf of a man who was fired from his place of work and denied unemployment benefits.
Otunga's legal skills have remained sharp - his client won the case against the New York State Department of Labor and was awarded compensation.
He is hoping his good luck streak will continue into the weekend (28-29Jan12) as he prepares to battle at the wrestling world's Royal Rumble.
He tells TMZ.com, "If the outcome of the case is any indication of how I'll do in the Royal Rumble this weekend, then it looks like I'll be the winner."...

Otunga tells us he was repping the man in his appeal to the NY State Department of Labor. The...

After last year’s 40-man “biggest Royal Rumble in history”, the WWE have reverted back to the traditional 30-man format for what they are touting as being the 25th anniversary of their A-grade PPV show, despite it actually being the 24th anniversary as the show needed to reach 1 years old being having it’s first anniversary.
The St. Louis’ Scottrade Center, the venue for this year’s Rumble, are currently advertising a ’30-man Royal Rumble match” along with a WWE Championship and WWE World Heavyweight Title bouts.
This all seems to make sense for me. Last year’s 40-man rumble was simply too much and there has been nothing wrong with the 30-man format for years.
Tickets for this year’s Royal Rumble, taking place on January 29th, go on sale from December 10th. Ticket prices range between $20 to $300.
In the UK, surprisingly, Santino Marella is the marquee star on...
