Mariah Carey got some real sole food for Mother’s Day this year … a massive cake in the shape of a shoe made with Real gold. We’re told Mariah’s manager sent the scrumptious slipper to her house as a Mother’s Day gift … and had it specially made by Kailava -- a company featured on "Cake Boss: Next Great Baker" and known for extreme edible sculptures. Other than the mirror base that displayed the sugary shoe,...

New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie recently made news when, among other recent events, he met his musical idol, Bruce Springsteen.
This week, another son of the Garden State gets to meet a childhood icon as Lou Ferrigno ("The Incredible Hulk") guest stars on the Monday, Dec. 3, episode of TLC's hit competition series "Cake Boss: Next Great Baker."
"One of my favorite shows growing up was 'The Hulk,' so meeting him was like meeting a hero," host and judge Buddy Valastro tells Zap2it. "And Lou totally lived up to it. He did the Hulk pose with me and everything. We had a great time, and he was such a gentleman. He actually was with us for a long time, like eight hours, so we got to hang out and talk, and I learned a lot more about his personal life. He was an awesome guy."

Buddy Valastro knows how important it is to please his clients and so he decided to give the contestants on "Cake Boss: Next Great Baker" (Mon., 9 p.m. Est on TLC) a master class on interviewing a client.
The client for this challenge was none other than Miss USA -- and proud Jersey girl -- Alyssa Campanella. Their challenge was to create a beautiful cake that celebrated her and the things she loves. Although she doesn't look like she eats a lot of cake, she assured the contestants that, "I do like to cook."
At the end of the ten-hour challenge, pageant fan Chad and Ryan -- who have both thrown each other under the bus in previous episodes -- had produced the lowest-scoring cakes, and they were both facing a trip to the box truck.
When asked to critique his opponent's creation, Chad said his elaborately decorated cake was streets ahead of Ryan's,...

There's an old expression that says, "too many cooks spoil the broth." As we learned on "Cake Boss: Next Great Baker" (Mon., 9 p.m. Est on TLC) the axiom also applies to cakes. During a wedding cake challenge, Ryan Cimorelli and Marissa Lopez butted heads over the cakes' design and cooks' roles in the kitchen. Ryan was the team leader for the challenge, but that didn't stop Marissa from offering her advice on how things should go.
Unfortunately, Ryan wasn't a fan of Marissa's freelancing, and the two got into a heated exchange that got increasingly hostile. "We don't need a lot more shapes, because we're not covering these cakes. Keep doing what you were doing," he told her. "Well if they're not dry, then you can't air brush them," she shot back.
"We need to get the cakes iced, okay? So Megan is in the middle of icing the...

Buddy Valastro came up with a particularly destructive way to dispatch with the losing cakes in this week's "Cake Boss: Next Great Baker" (Monday, 9Pm Est on TLC) challenge. He called out his co-workers Joey and Franky, who emerged from backstage with a chainsaw and sledgehammer, ready to destroy the cakes contestants had just spent hours baking.
The contestants looked on in anguish as the chainsaw neared their creations. "It's sad because it goes right through the carousel that I just spent so much time on trying to make it spin," Marissa said, after watching her team's Carnival Cake split in half and then smashed into pieces.
Valastro, on the other hand, was elated. "That's a losing cake!" he yelled in glee. Next up for execution was Ryan, Megan and Heather G.'s DJ Cake, which got decapitated by the chainsaw after Valastro gave it a thumbs down. The team was devastated.

Sergeant Wesley Durden, a contestant on TLC’s Next Great Baker, committed suicide after production wrapped, according to the Jacksonville Daily News. 'Cake Boss: Next Great Baker' (9Pm, Tlc) season 1 finale
It's down to the final challenge in this 'Cake Boss' spin-off (which was recently renewed for a second season), meaning either Dana, Corina or Megan will walk away with $50,000 in cash, a new car and an apprenticeship with Buddy Valastro at his Carlo's Bake Shop in New Jersey. There's no real frontrunner heading into the finale; though Dana may have made fewer missteps than his competitors, several challenges throughout the season saw the whole pool turn out such sloppy cake and decorating work that it felt like all of them should have been sent home. Here's hoping the final three really step up their game and prove they deserve that big prize, though we think Buddy is gonna have his mentoring work cut out for him no matter who ends up as the next great baker.

Explosions + reality TV makes everything better. Probably. (For proof of this, here's a video of sand castles exploding in reverse on a reality show. See? Explosions can even make sand castles entertaining. Sort of.)
But somehow, cakes plus explosions does't seem like a natural mix. After all, cakes are ... something you'd like to eat. Demolishing them is such a waste. And as your mom might remind you: waste not, want not; you should always clean your plate, etc.
Still, explosions are what we got on 'Cake Boss: Next Great Baker' (Mon., 9Pm Et on Tlc). Two teams competed to create the best cake for a special effects company. Host Buddy Valastro didn't like one of the cakes, so he had it blown up. And then he blew up the other one.
