Kate Hudson is forced to watch motoring shows on TV. The 33-year-old actress is a fan of British programmes but is tired of being forced to join her partner Matt Bellamy, their 19-month-old son Bingham and Ryder, her nine-year-old son with ex-husband Chris Robinson, in tuning into car enthusiasts' show 'Top Gear'. She said: 'I like staying in and watching British TV. It's a lot of 'Top Gear' - I've got boys. I love them but I can't watch this again.' When she manages to take control of the TV, Kate enjoys watching shows fronted by Professor Brian Cox because she finds his programmes, such as 'Stargazing Live' and 'Wonders of the Universe', 'inspiring'. She added: 'My favourite is Brian...

Professor Brian Cox claims he was banned from attempting to contact aliens because BBC bosses feared it could breach health and safety regulations. The Stargazing Live presenter said that paranoid bosses put a stop to plans to 'contact' the planet Threapleton Holmes B over worries that aliens could breach the corporation's editorial guidelines. Threapleton Holmes B was discovered by amateur stargazers on the BBC2 show earlier this year. Cox told BBC 6 Music: "We decided that we'd point the Jodrell Bank telescope at the planet that had been discovered by these two viewers and listen because no one had ever pointed a radio telescope at it and you never know. "The BBC actually said, 'But you can't do that because we need to go through the regulations and health and safety and everything in (more)...

Professor Brian Cox has denied that the BBC put an abrupt end to searching for new life during Stargazing Live. Several articles published today (November 7) claimed that Cox and co-presenter Dara Ó Briain were "banned" from attempting to contact possible life on a new planet. Talking about a new planet discovered by amateur stargazers, Cox told BBC 6Music this morning: "We've never pointed a radio telescope at it and you never know, and the BBC actually said, 'But, um, you can't do that, because we need to go through the regulations and health and safety and everything in case we discover a signal from an alien civilisation'. "I said, (more)...

The return of Professor Brian Cox and his Stargazing Live series to BBC Two has resulted in an almost 500% increase in sales of telescopes on Amazon's UK website. In what has been dubbed the "Brian Cox effect", Amazon UK saw a 491% uplift in sales of telescopes in the hours after the programme, co-presented by Cox with comic Dara O'Briain, relaunched on Monday. Sales of telescopes on Amazon.co.uk, including models ranging from £18 to more than £350, are currently over three times higher than they were in 2011. The interest in Cox has also seen sales of his books more than double on Amazon since the physicist (more)...

Sir David Attenborough has said that fellow popular scientist Brian Cox is cleverer than him. The naturalist and broadcaster told The Big Issue that physics is much more difficult than his nature broadcasting. "He's much cleverer than I am," Attenborough said of Stargazing Live presenter Cox. "He is! "I stand with my jaw slacking at the imagination that goes into particle physics. What I do is very easy compared to with what he does." Attenborough and the producers of the BBC's Frozen Planet were last month criticised for inserting images of baby polar bears being born in a zoo in Germany into the programme. "If you had tried to put a camera in the wild of a polar bear den, mother den, she would have either have killed the cub, or she would have killed the cameraman," Attenborough later explained on ITV's (more)...

The Astrological Association of Great Britain has complained about comments made on the BBC's recent programme Stargazing Live. According to The Guardian, the organisation is unhappy about remarks made by Dara O'Briain and Brian Cox on the show. During the programme, which aired on January 3, O'Brien allegedly said: "Let's get this straight once and for all, astrology is rubbish." Cox reportedly replied: "In the interests of balance on the BBC, yes, astrology is nonsense." The Astrological Association has now set up a petition (more)...
