A very entertaining second episode.

Sam and Ruth go undercover to a health farm, posing as husband and wife, their aim is to track down Baron Battenburg, a wealthy businessman that vanished five years ago, his wife is now with The Baron's brother.

Just like Kembleford, Great Slaughter houses all manner of weird and wonderful destinations, this time it's a curious retreat. Definitely a lighter episode, with a few humorous moments, and an interesting enough crime. We actually get to learn a little about Sam and Ruth, finally the pair let one another know how they feel.

Sister Boniface is almost a bit player here, we don't see her for some time, and then she's essentially just in for the kill. A stoned Sister Boniface, I never thought I'd see that, absolutely hilarious.

I was worried that Ruth had exited, but here she is, and central to the episode, Raison is excellent here, so often she seems like the adult in the room, and gets to wear some incredible outfits, poor Sam on the other hand doesn't.

Emily Bruni was pretty good I thought, she does quirky characters very well, but I'd argue it was Raison that steals it.

Worth noting just exactly what LSD was used for at that time, it was considered very differently, and back then would have been used as a treatment.

8/10.

A groovy kind of Nun

A sighting of the mysteriously missing Baron Battenberg sends the press and police into a frenzy. Determined to uncover the facts, Ruth and Sam go undercover at the Pranayama retreat, run by the Baron's widow Marion Grey and brother Edwin Battenberg.

Very good entry that is plenty of fun with Sam and Ruth going undercover at a retreat, cleansing their chakras, doing yoga, and getting involved in murder. There's some good suspects, enough twists to keep you guessing - poor Sister gets spiked with LSD. A funny scene. Of course, that leads her and co. To the murderer. The 1960's/commune setting and costumes are well done.

The Shadow of Baron Battenberg

Ruth Penny and DI Sam Gillespie are wanting their cake and eating it. They pretend to be a married couple as they go undercover in a retreat to possibly tack down Baron Jonty Battenberg.

He has been reputedly missing for five years, maybe even murdered by his wife Marion Grey who runs the retreat along with the Baron's brother Edwin.

There has been press interest because of a recent sighting of the Baron. In fact a reporter from the Times, Victor Goodbody is snooping around.

Only DI Gillespie ends up investigating his murder as Goodbody's dead body is found.

It was amazing how the lighthearted tone was kept, despite the circumstances. At one point Sister Boniface is hallucinating on LSD.

It was a fun episode, several suspects and dark motives abound. Even the spa had a very far eastern feel about it. Great Slaughter really has a wide variety of flora.
