Good Message but Poorly Handled

Man in the Mirror (2011)

* 1/2 (out of 4)

Poor message film about a Puerto Rican teenager (E.J. Bonilla) who is secretly gay but once a classmate sees him kissing another man, he will stop at nothing to make them believe he's really straight. Joel Schumacher directed this film and I have no doubt in my mind that he simply wanted to spread the message that there's nothing wrong with being gay and I can respect that. However, just because I can respect the message doesn't mean that the movie is any good and sadly MAN IN THE MIRROR is pretty bad and at times it reaches an embarrassing level. Again, I don't fault the message here because there have been message movies going back as far as the 1900s. The problem with the bad ones like this is that instead of getting the message across in a good way, they instead beat the viewer over the head with the message and this gets rather boring. Even at just 15-minutes this short drags so badly that you'll be wanting to hit your fast forward button. Another problem is that the lead character is just so annoying and the issues with him are so obvious that it just never works in regards to any sort of drama or reason for you to remain interested in the movie. Even worse is the ending, which I won't spoil but it's more of a eye roller than anything else.

monotonic lecture

A good story in the wrong plate because it is only a pledge who looking for convince the convinced people about this cause. the others are only bored. the message is old, the vehicle is uninspired and the performance not gives the real traits of dilemma . the worst detail - the effect is contrary to the purpose. because it is just a lecture . and, unfortunatelly, a boring one. or only a namby - pamby one. result - just frustrating. because it seems too monotonic . and the end is not what you expect.
