Incredibly dull and tedious
FiRE01029 May 2021
Warning: Spoilers
It lacks a story, like the original three games. It lacks the interesting characters that games prior used to have. Some levels are enjoyable, most are very generic and feel like their themes were copied directly from a new super mario bros game. The bosses are also lifted directly from other games or just a bigger version of a generic enemy. Also, the whole game is a confusing grind as there are no experience points, and has no real payoff at the end, as it has a generic "story". The battle system overall has some originality but is boring(and broken). The only thing this game improves on over the originals is having a higher graphical fidelity (it doesn't look better though), and the inclusion of things. Things are interesting real-world objects found in-game that can be used in the overworld and in battles, but generally, you are only going to use these things in set spots in the overworld, or using a specific thing that is strong against a specific boss. You feel like you can only use the things in this linear way because otherwise, you may be using an item that is crucial to progress in the game. It can actually become impossible to beat certain bosses (for me I couldn't beat the final boss without a second playthrough) as some stickers are nonrenewable, which makes the game's battle system broken.
