I hate it when they make movies out of old TV-series, to try to squeeze the last buck out of the public's interest in the characters. That was true of "Sex and the City", and it is also true of this Swedish attempt at it.
The plot of this movie is very simple and very silly. Mr and Mrs Svensson have been married for 30 years, but now Mrs Svensson wants a divorce because her husband is more interested in football (the spectacular sport) than in her. She agrees to give him a last chance, by going away together to a small hotel in the country to celebrate their 30th anniversary. Mr Svensson must promise not to watch, hear, talk or even THINK about football during this stay.
But SURPRISE (not): a very famous Swedish football player is staying at this hotel too, and he is OF COURSE preparing for a spectacular match and invites Mr Svensson to come and watch it. At the same day and hour that Mr and Mrs Svensson have ordered their luxurious anniversary dinner... Well, you can guess the rest.
I think it was such a pity to try to make more money out of these, for the Swedish people, very dear characters. We watched the "Svensson, Svensson" series for many seasons, and saw their two children grow up in front of our eyes... it felt REAL. As if we knew this family. It was full of fun, warmth, love, and quick-witted rejoinders. Almost always to the point - things that most Swedish families with children could relate to.
But this movie was not fun at all. It was not the same tempo in it. There was almost none of the humour of the series, which was built on quick, witty dialogue. Instead they tried such concepts as "mixed identities", and people running around hiding from each other in the hotel - but it only turned out stupid and too unrealistic. It was also much too easy to guess how the movie would continue - and how it would end - after the first ten minutes or so.
And another thing I do not like. When a TV series has been finished for many years, everybody has made his/her own picture of what happened to the characters afterwards, how they look now, how they live now. To "have to" see the producers' "answers", might destroy this picture entirely. And worse - it might even destroy one's enjoyment of the original series...
