Embarrassing insiders' comedy about the porn biz
lor_28 March 2016
I'm not surprised this piece of junk was nominated for 3 industry awards: it is a lazy satire of the porn business from the inside. Arm's length viewers need not apply.

One of the secrets of writer-director Cash's ability to produce so many videos is his milking lame ideas and not working on anything resembling shaping a quality script. Quantity not quality.

Even worse than his trivial "That Voodoo That You Do" which I watched recently, the randomly titled "Orgasm" has Cash as a hissable video director encountering production difficulties on the set. He portrays a fictional director but betrays many of his own failings for all to see.

His main headache is Randy Spears, subjected to endless ageism jokes at his expense. He's a good sport, and getting paid to be humiliated (sounds like BDSM porn) but Cash is a master of running a gag into the ground. By video's end the repetition made me angry.

The actual porn feature being shot is ridiculous, perhaps it would be even worse than Cash's meta-film about it. The girls in the cast are all pretty and try to be arousing but Cash insists on frequently reminding us that this is a film about a film, so the viewer is drawn out of the sex scene to instead stare at a jib-mounted camera or a boom mic. Ridiculous.

Besides Randy's overwrought, ludicrous performance, Evan Stone is knee-jerk casting as his rival, overacting as usual in pretending to be a banana or whatever else the script (or his improvising) calls for. A fantasy subplot concerning Randy's nightmare that he is dead is poorly handled.

Torturous to watch, this is precisely the sort of vanity production one shows to friends & family or in this case the porn family. It should have been left on the cutting room floor and in a more competitive world would have been.
