Love it, the story line, the characters, all of it!!
giadafallaci24 October 2015
Season 3, episode 8, watched 3 seasons in 2 days, it's so much fun and addictive! Love the characters, love the storyline and love the music! It's indeed the soap opera of sitcoms as you want to know what happens next and how the storyline develops. The characters are endearing, lovable, funny, outrageous, crazy and sad. It will make you laugh, it will get you peed off, it will get you singing and a bit teary eyed! Another 2 seasons to go. Can't wait to see the rest of the episodes! Typical British sense of humor, but even if you don't understand it, you will love it! A must if you're a Brit or living in Britain and a great watch if you love British series.

I'm hooked on British TV series ...
kchaco-0243720 February 2021
Warning: Spoilers
And usually those are the superb detective shows, from period to contemporary. I'm surprised how much I've enjoyed this comedy that seemed so superficial at first. I thought I couldn't take Denise but got used to her and, most amazingly, Bianca has become my favorite character. She's delightful and now, in S.5 I really miss her. Bazza is my other top favorite. Lisa, though, is horrible and I find it odd that the series "star" is such a miserable person. She has it all, the perfect life, an angel husband to whom she can only be abusive and doesn't bond at all with her own baby. This gal has a serious personality disorder, in spite of the sweetest parents on earth (miss Sue a lot); all she does is terrorize others. Dan is an angel and deserves better. In spite of all I have loved about the show, if Lisa doesn't leave or get help I can stop viewing.

Season After Season, It Keeps Getting Better!!!
kolleen_adelphia121 November 2019
Warning: Spoilers
First, I'd just like to say....... I really bloody wish they'd release soundtracks for this show, or at least give us a bit more info. so we can find/get it ourselves!!!!!! That being said, I think that other person/reviewer is a total tosser!!!! It's nothing like American telly, and that's I (an American, actually an Anglophile) why I love it (& so many other British, Scottish, Irish, Aussie, & N.Z. programmes)!!!!!!! I will agree, that I get sick of ALL the nagging & fussing constantly. But, as for the rest (the bulk of the show), it's really, really great!!!!!! Yes, Denise doesn't always need to be portrayed as quick so ditsy. Between a Denise and Bianca, there is a bit too much "dumb" sometimes. It's when they're so real to life, and the lines &/or when the actors say it like it is, that's what I have an amazing appreciation for Britcoms (ALL British, Scottish, Irish, etc. programmes!!!!)!!!!!! PLEASE KEEP EM' COMING!!!!!! I could continue to binge watch programmes like this one and so many more, day and night!!!!!!

Love it
teejay-7110219 August 2020
I'm sad it's off the air. A bit silly but I loved the characters, the humour, wit and sensitivity. The perfect show to watch with a glass of wine when I want to relax. Still hoping it might come back for a season 7.

Good comfy blanket show
likeworkingforme26 May 2022
It's well written.

It's a better way of seeing neighbors become good friends and family to each other. There are some action filled episodes too. If there is a character you don't like at first, over time you will see their growth and develop a heart for them.

Warning: Spoilers
Been binging the show since I found it on Acorn. But confess that when I feel the need to turn it off for a bit, it's ALWAYS due to my disgust at the main character, Lisa. She's a completely unlikable spoiled holier-than-thou character that frequently ruined being able to just give over to sheer delight in the whole series.

The characters are well developed, written and excellently acted across the board, even the vile main one. The different characters, plots and relationships in the different seasons help keep it fresh. Although I really did love Sue (mother of main character). However, it did allow for Baz to get somewhat better and more interesting storylines front and center. Sad to see Bianca go but felt it was probably time, as her stories kept getting recycled.

Dan is, of course, the unsung hero in all of this. He's been nagged and trampled on and generally just used as a punching bag by a wife, Lisa, who becomes increasingly unhinged and selfish. By the end of season 5 I was actually hoping she met an unappetizing end. No such luck lol. Baz and Dan's relationship is truly the jewel of the entire show.

We'll see what season 6 brings us to wrap it all up.

After season 4 it's downhill
Emma_Marie2920 July 2021
I loved the first 4 seasons. Would've given it an 8 maybe even a 9. But I've been struggling watching season 5 and just gave up. I'd rather rewatch the first 4 than continue.

The soap opera of sitcoms
mikealike13 September 2011
Not having looked up the actors or the creators though, The series feels like a B series show, or like a soap opera of the sitcoms. Maybe the actors usually star in such movies, maybe the director has a hand for that genre. But the mix of working class people and their jobs, serious problems that they have and comical situations that are not instant, but diluted throughout the entire episodes sure gives that feeling of programmed fun. Programmed to be understood by everybody, to stir some empathy in the tired employee watching in the evening, in the younger and naive office girl, in the retired couple who occupy their late years trying not to remain out of touch with the modern world. It vaguely triggers memories of Peep Show, probably because of the suffocating office world feeling. It is much more traditional, yet not dumb, so far. It remains to be seen where is it going, because this closed universe and tiny everyday issues are starting to seem tiring.

What a fun ride! On the wrong side of the road ...
thejdrage1 August 2023
I just discovered this and am so sad it's over .... Only took me a week to binge the 6 seasons.

This series was brilliant at having the characters grow and mature. The most obvious were Bianca and Denise, of course.

It showed the reality of fighting and breaking up and fighting and making up.

I grew up in a family that had people coming and going in each others homes (not houses, homes) and drinking too much (or not enough sometimes). We were at home wherever we were. And that's what I loved most about this series. The intimacy of it all.

If only I had that now! So I did, for a week with this great series. Thank you!

First two seasons are the best
cathysparta9 April 2023
Warning: Spoilers
The first two seasons of this show are really worth watching. When I first started watching this show, I thought Lisa's parents, Barry and Sue were fantastic. Shortly into the show many of the main characters start to leave. Barry and Sue go to Spain and Sue never comes back, thankfully Barry does because he is light hearted and fun. During season 3 or 4 they get new neighbors once again and it's this horrendously annoying couple, the wife is this obnoxious flirt who almost has an affair with Dan , the husband is some kind of criminal and by season 5, many from the original cast has disappeared and it becomes a really annoying soap opera where way too much time is spent on that annoying neighbor and Lisa and Dan are constantly fighting again.

I loved it at the beginning
cdruby-3489431 August 2020
Warning: Spoilers
When Sue's mom was written off and other key players were and then u had to quickly figure out why these characters aren't there anymore it kind of puts a damper on the show. I enjoyed it but not enough to give it 10 stars. U need to put certain key players under a solid contract so they won't be able to leave the show if in their minds a better acting role comes along. Sues parents were key to the show and so enjoyable...those actors had chemistry... so to kill off mum because she found as an actress a better role well thats the fault of the powers that be for this show. Hope thats a learning experience over there!

I really do like the show I just found it I know it's off the air now but my goodness Lisa needs to take a chill pill I couldn't be with someone who nags constantly and she such a hypocrite she sitting there flirting with Todd OK and then she's gonna jump in to her husband's ass constantly she is the nagging ass woman I have ever seen my goodness I really like her but why are they going to make her out to be a really and please tell me that the little girl that sits across from her is not that stupid really my goodness he's never going to leave his wife dingdong. I really feel like I'm watching an American show I watch shows from across the pond because you're more realistic I know it's a comedy but come on people this is too much like American I do like the show but some of it is yeah

Whiners
vintagegeek-9746519 July 2021
I found Mount Pleasant cast to be whiners with screeching voices. Plus I can't stand shows where in-laws just barge in and have no common sense. Every minute seemed to be people arguing.

it was OK until......hope you read this
braquecubism12 January 2020
Warning: Spoilers
So I thought it was light weight, mildly entertaining comedy, not especially funny, but with some charm. some melodrama. mindless, but good natured. what changed for me was Season 2 E#5- Dan's mother and father, divorced, go on a date. For the fun of it, they cheat a hard working taxi driver out of 10 (UK pounds or euros) I was sad and horrified. some poor hard working man, driving a taxi at night, maybe working long hours, or 2 jobs. get cheated. Seems they did this many times before- This is so mean. I stopped watching!!!

Seeing Robson Green, whom I like, in a role season #2-

you may say, well, give it a break, it's just silly comedy. but I was so offended, especially by the cavalier way they handled it. As it was perfectly all right- just a fun prank.

Some good, some bad, but...
mcmiller5319 July 2023
Is everyone an alcoholic on this show? Maybe I'm used to watching shows here in the US but it's rare to see this much constant heavy drinking in any comedy/drama like this genre.

None of the characters can seemingly do anything without either a beer or glass of wine in their hand. Or a shot, or a margarita, or vodka. It's ridiculous. The only exception I can see is maybe Lisa's parents who are delightful. As is the intelligent neighbor guy. Snappy dialogue as well and quirky story arcs.

I've really enjoyed Lisa in Madame Blanc. She's much better utilized there. The nonstop booze turned me off on this one, tho, so moving on.

Loved the show at first, but Pauline Johnson's voice annoys me to no end...
msimplyemail27 April 2023
Warning: Spoilers
I discovered this show on Acorn and loved it at first - Dan Johnson and his wife, Lisa, and her parents, Sue and Barry Harris. What a tight-knit and loving family! Sue and Barry Harris are a delightfully quirky couple who dote on their on adult daughter, Lisa. Then Sue (played by Pauline Collin) "moved away" and left the show. Other characters unexpectedly come and go, and it didn't throw off the show too much. BUT, it seemed when Sue (Pauline Collin) left the show, Dan's mother, Pauline Johnson (played by Paula Wilcox), took on a greater role in the family and on the show. Eegads! That obnoxious! Dan's mom is the type of relative you wished you had never invited! Watch and you'll agree that Dan and Lisa need to lock there doors!
