The Meeting

Charles Timblin plays a preacher in blackface to a congregation of Black actors. While it's not the first time I've seen a Blackface performer and non-white supporting actors, i's rather unusual.

In any case, it's a Black skit of a type that was popular for many years: I've heard a recording of Louis Armstrong give a mock sermon involving chicken stealing..... and he wasn't against it. This one offers a collection of gags that include the congregation disarming efore the service -- broken guns, straight razors -- and a song. Very offensive these days, of course, and in questionable taste when this short was produced.
