A good profile on the hunt for the green river killer from the perspective of the main detective. Relevant interviews and archival footage.

Obsession: David Reichert And The Green River Killer
a_baron28 March 2016
Gary Ridgway is one of America and the world's most notorious serial killers, one of the most prolific, and one of the most depraved, even if his claim that he had sex with the decaying bodies of some of his victims is not true. Ridgway was convicted of murdering 48 women, a further count was added, and he is believed to have murdered probably 90+. Eat your heart out, Ted Bundy.

This documentary covers the early stages of the investigation when bodies first started appearing in selected Washington State locations. We see the trail going cold, then with advances in DNA technology, sperm extracted from several victims is matched to him. Ridgway had long been top of the suspect list, and had even been staked out quite heavily at one time. Perhaps the most surprising thing about Ridgway is that he is an obscure, insignificant, boring little man one might imagine could be a henpecked husband.

It includes archive footage and is seen largely through the eyes of a detective on the Green River task force; David Reichert would later become a sheriff; as for Ridgway, a plea bargain enabled him to escape the death penalty to spend the rest of his miserable life staring at a prison wall.
