Some of the most clever writing ever
lovemichaeljordan31 March 2023
The writing is just so clever in Ted Lasso. It's genuinely mindboggling how good it is at times. The revelation that Collin is homosexual is great. It will be interesting to see how the writers destigmatize homosexuality in sports. First, we got lectured about mental health and now we will learn about another important and touchy subject.

It's not a series about football. Richmond will probably win the Premier League, but that's not what this show has ever been about. It's about the journey, not the finish line.

Zava might not be the most intriguing character, but I'm sure he'll grow on us. Jamie and Roy's friendship is one of the highlights of the show. It's touching seeing to men let a little go of their egos. When men who never display emotions do show them, it always has a greater impact. Ted is as great as ever. You just can not root against him. One of the best-written characters ever.

WENT WEAK AT END OF SEASON TWO
fionastaun3 April 2023
They took the macho out and put girly chat in. The first season was strong with a push-back against the locker room power of male sport.

It was so good watching a Yank take on the sacred chapel of British football. The material wrote itself. The delightful confusion of muscle boys trying to work out Ted's naive belief in positive joy was a strong juxtopositioning.

The swearing versus the corn-bred jolly optimism firstly sank when the boss lady bonded with a WAG. Then it weakened into chick-flick fashion and tears! Shrieking and best friending, scenes without any males lost the power.

Went woke, went up in smoke.

This episode included some of my favorite twists
pl-364451 April 2023
Warning: Spoilers
Already in the last season when all the dating with Bantr came up, I hoped there would be a gay character. Colin as a good looking quiet member of the team was always my favorite candidate. So I have just been extremely happy to finally see this revealed. Though it seemed like they have been building this up given that we have always seen him alone.

But this episode yields further surprises which I do not all want to spoil. However, after the last season seemed to have become hung up on relationship issues this season starts off really promising. The cards a dealt new, new ones are revealed while the premise stays: can kindness and cooperation beat arrogance and competition? I really hope this season continues to impress.

Too much dead air and too much Zava
askeland8929 March 2023
I can honestly say this is my least favorite episode so far. Granted it had it's moments but it felt dragged out. Too many unnecessary scenes that didn't build up to anything and the dialogue was cliche. Someone before me pointed out that it feels like they hired different writers for this season and I'm starting to think this person may have a point.

The only thing that actually felt right about this episode and this season in general is the humor, still as good as ever but something is definitely missing. And this "Zava" character who is obviously inspired by Zlatan is just way over the top and honestly painful to watch.

So far this season has been a letdown. A few good scenes thrown in here and there does not excuse the rest of it. Sorry to say but I don't have high hopes for the upcoming episodes.

Zava and Filler
lakesteakpb5 April 2023
Warning: Spoilers
This episode stretches 20 minutes of content into a 50 minute show. It features all of those tricks I remember Harry Potter 7 and Hunger Games 3 doing - 'we need some extra scenes.... let's reveal Colin has been gay this whole time!' To be clear, it's great that Lasso continues to feature new communities and tackles difficult issues like mental health, but tacking this scene on at the beginning of the episode makes it pretty evident the writers were trying to buy some time. Also, I know Lasso knows pop culture like the back of his hand, but going off on a Julie Andrews tangent in the middle of an important meeting took my roommates and I out of the show. It's just not how human beings would communicate in a scene like that.

The standout of the episode is Zava, of course. His character seems interesting so far and I'm glad that his motives and personality are different from Jamie in season 1. I hope his character continues to keep the story interesting for the rest of the season. 6/10.

Don't be fooled by familiar faces.
blankdirector1 April 2023
Warning: Spoilers
Don't be fooled by familiar faces, this is not Ted Lasso. Unfortunately, this season so far (303) just doesn't have the charm or more importantly the nuance that we've come to expect from the show. It feels a lot like the creators read one too many glowing reviews and allowed that classic self parody to creep in.

This season feels almost cartoon like in certain moments, silly beyond reality, in ways that pull you way out of the experience. Especially the stuff with Zava. I get it, they're making fun of our God-like treatment of these egotistical soccer heroes, but they're doing it exactly how some film student would do it. Zero nuance, zero originality, just over our heads like a hammer.

Keely doesn't feel like Keely, Ted is still insecure about his ex wife, Roy has somehow regressed and is insecure about his emotions for a bit to the writer, and Rebecca is still insecure about her ex husband even though she already confronted and overcame that thread last season. Panic attacks? We really have no knew stories to tell about these characters?

A lot of scenes go on for way too long and feel like cut scenes that shouldn't have made it. Pacing is extremely weird, I'm taking bizarre and amateur.

Overall, I'm watching because I've committed to this show but it's not even close to the same show or quality. Sad.

Episode 303
bobcobb3018 April 2023
Warning: Spoilers
As a West Ham fan I wish that we were near the top of the table and competing to sign big players, but neither of those is realistic so the show kind of missed the boat in that regard.

I did like that we got to see some football scenes though, even if they were rushed during highlights. The idea of one player vaulting AFC Richmond to the Top 4 is unlikely, but it is TV after all.

But then the scenes at the restaurant just killed the vibe and there was not much going on there.

People love the show, but I just think the originality is gone and it is kind of running on fumes at this point. Hoping to be proven wrong though.

Missing something
xmasdaybaby196617 June 2023
I assume thd people still eating this highly watched this after a gap from watching the previous two series.

Don't get me wrong, it is good but there is something missing this series compared to the concise 35 minutes of each episode in series 1 and early series 2.

The extra 10-15 minutes or so seems too much. The thriller is watered down by filler to make up the time and the worst thing is watching this after series 3 has finished siring is that the episodes are going to get longer.

The humour is missing and the magic between the characters is amiss.

Yes, players might be in awe of Zava but he has taken someone's place in the team so it wouldn't just be Jamie that doesn't like his presence.

It is good to see Keeley in Versace jeans couture as it reminds me of dome of the outfits I bought for ScotsDee which she shows off on her twitter page and Rebecca's Louboutin heels remind me of the heels I bought for goodgirlxoo which she often wears on her twitter page. I got into this show to stop me being their shopping slave but the show just reminds me of them.

A six to match the run Richmond are on.

Too Twee By Half
pmer30 March 2023
Generally speaking, I love Ted Lasso but this third series, so far at least, seems to be lacking it's normal oomph and charm;. It feels like it's painting by numbers and that the soul has gone.

This particular episode there is a lot of wasted time, the pacing is too slow, and the overall feel is sickly twee - like it's going through the motions - and it is definitely not funny.

I sincerely hope it snaps out of its own self-satisfaction, and for what it's worth, I am hopeful as series two was able to recover from the abysmal Christmas and Coach Beard filler episodes.

The faint whiff of Jamie's evolution in this episode though is delectable, and I'm looking forward to seeing where that may go.

It Wasn't Just Me
Hitchcoc9 March 2024
I did like that that new guy is every bit as good as they say. Richmond is winning like never before. Even if they finished in the top five, they are secure in their league position. The thing is the dynamics of this episode are weak. They have the huge match with Nates team, run by the ex. But this episode has too much Keeley and that awful friend of hers whom she is allowing a lot of freedom without consequences. Ted gets big news when he calls his son, something that is so unfair. Also, we are let in on a player's secret that could devastate things. Things are rolling slowly now. We do have the game however. Oh, the adulation for Zava by the team is tiresome. Roy begins coaching Jamie on the side to make him a big star.

Like a parody of itself - a pretty bad one.
donleon120005 April 2023
Where to begin with this radical fall from grace? Keeley Jones was a pretty fun figurehead, a wonderful underdog cheerleader, now she's degenerated into a joke with a stuffy office. Nathan is having a hard time with the lead role he's been given, and his boss, Rupert, has to be obediently evil, Higgins is only allowed to squawk in wonder, Rebecca has to go on hating senselessly, and Ted is allowed and forced to laugh himself to death. This once wonderful series has nothing, but also nothing of its charm and the tension from formerly small but fine narrative subject can save. One only misses the pre-recorded laughs.

Boring
danekera-977174 June 2023
This season is less appealing than the previous two...there doesn't seem to be the same snap that Seasons 1 and 2 had. It's almost like watching two different shows. There doesn't seem to be any camaraderie. There doesn't seem to be the same level of respect that seasons 1 and 2 worked up to. Too little character development of characters we actually care about. Episodes used to end on a high note...with lessons learned and relationships made stronger.

The Zara storyline is just silly. His character isn't believable.

And way too many silly side stories...Shandy. The psychic. Jane.

Hope the last episodes are better.

Not my Ted
MeatWagon91117 May 2023
Warning: Spoilers
This episode features something nobody wanted, and another sequence that goes against a character's established personality.

The green matchbook. Most of us are rooting for Rebecca to get with Ted I would imagine. Is it the obvious and most predictable outcome - yes. But it is still one that could be thoroughly entertaining. While this gripe is just about preference, the 1 star review is because of the acquisition of Zava.

Ted supporting the addition of a player that is known for destroying teams goes against everything that makes him a great coach, friend, etc. The corner locker set-up is atrocious. What are they doing with Ted's character...
