Hope they do another season
Supermanfan-1310 May 2023
Obviously if you're a Pete Davidson fan you're going to like this and if you're not you probably won't. That's why I don't understand the people who are leaving negative reviews. What were you expecting? Having enjoyed The King of Staten Island, I was expecting this to be a longer version of that movie just made for a tv series and while they both have a lot in common, this is actually better than the movie. I think it's mostly due to the great Joe Pesci who plays Pete's dying grandfather. The dynamic Pete has with his grandfather is what makes this better than the movie. Every episode has plenty of laughs but also some good drama too. Even though you'll enjoy this a lot more being a Pete Davidson fan I don't think you have to be his fan to like it. I'm already looking forward to next season.

Pete fans will like it
Rob133111 May 2023
I need to start off by saying I'm a fan of Pete Davidson, not a huge fan but still a fan, so I'm definitely the target audience for this show. FYI, you don't have to be a Pete Davidson fan to enjoy the show. I ended up liking Bupkis even more than I thought I would. I was entertained throughout every episode. The worst episode is the first so don't give up after one episode, it gets better. Bupkis is a fictionalized story on Pete Davidson's life. It's kind of how like Curb Your Enthusiasm is loosely based on Larry David. There are so many big names stars in this including Joe Pesci as his grandfather and Edie Falco as his mother. It also has so many great guest appearances by Charlie Day, Sebastian Stan, Jon Stewart, Bobby Cannavale, Ray Ramano, Steve Buscemi, Paul Walter Hauser, Simon Rex, Method Man, Jadakiss, Machine Gun Kelly, Brad Garrett, Al Gore, John Mulaney, and many more. Give this a chance because I think it'll hook you and you're going to want to binge it as fast as you can.

I'm not a Pete Davidson fan
J0ESUFF16 May 2023
I'm not a big fan of his, I don't think his stand up is good and I don't think he's a good actor. He was great in the CC Roasts though. However this show is great, he's great in it, the supporting cast is great, the dialogue is great, im just very pleasantly surprised. I'm particularly impressed with the supporting cast, it's amazing. So many great actors playing family members who themselves can steal an entire episode. I've gotten emotional a few times already and laughed out loud which is the ultimate range I'm looking for in a great show. This is a play on Pete's life so as long as he doesn't do anything too stupid to get cancelled, there will be plenty of material to be had as well. I look forward to it.

I Am Not Really A Pete Davidson Fan
unclekdog14 May 2023
Yes, I really never cared for anything Pete Davidson did. I thought he was kind of "not funny" on SNL. My buddy told me about Bupkis and I told him "Not wasting my time". Then I was at his house waiting for him to get ready to go bowling and his wife had it on while I was sitting with her. Come to find out that is how he got me to watch it. I was laughing so damn hard, I went home after bowling and binged it. It is a very good show and this type of show is what Pete Davidson looks like he really has talent. So even if you are like me and don't really care for Pete Davidson much, you will like him in this show for sure.

Come for the jokes, stay for the stories
elroy_geronimo17 May 2023
Pete Davidson in a show about Pete Davidson, I didn't know what to expect, but I was very pleasantly surprised. I think the premise of the show doesn't pull a lot of people in because Pete is known for his off beat stoner humor and drug use, but the show has so much more to offer.

For starters the cast is great; Joe Pesci, the elderly dying wise guy grandpa, Edie Falco, the though as nuts sweet ma, Bobby Canavale, the coked up uncle, that reminds me of my friends in the 90's and last but not least Preston Brodrick as the young Pete Davidson. I could go on and on about the cast and the cameos, which are abundant and hilarious, especially the one by Ray Romano.

At the heart of all the episodes is the angst of Pete Davidson.

Am I being the best person, I can be?

Which we all wonder from time to time.

Although the episodes only have a runtime of about 25 minutes every story is so wel rounded, it transcends most sitcoms.

I really hope Bupkis gets a second season cause we still haven't seen the whole Pete Davidson story and all of his talent.

So if you're hesitant, please give it a go, I promise you, you definitely will be as pleasantly surprised as I was!

Do not listen to the low ratings - this show is excellent
Daova5 May 2023
Honest to God I think the people leaving low ratings are trolls. The show is absolutely hilarious, heartfelt and the acting is phenomenal. Joe Pesci as Poppy is la crème de la crème and he is funny as hell. All the actors (some well known and others less known) they were wonderful in their roles and played their parts hilariously and beautifully. The guest roles too were so well blended and we get a comical but deep insight into the life of PD. I'm not a dedicated fan of his stand up and so this is not coming from a place of bias. I am objectively saying that this show is very, very well made and I thoroughly enjoyed it and look forward to season 2. Well done guys, you did great.

What a pleasant surprise!
Piedradura7 May 2023
This series is actually quite good. Very well-written and acted, great cast, and finds a way to turn dark subject matter, especially relating to his father's death on 9/11 and his drug use, into something very watchable and entertaining.

Some of the middle episodes were a bit uneven, but the first two and last two were excellent. I am a middle-aged guy and can't say I've lived a life like Pete's, but I have seen enough of his work to find him very relatable. He's an excellent writer, and by the caliber of the actors willing to do cameos on this show, they think so, as well.

I'd like to see more of Bupkis.

I had fun watching this one! Great cast and humor!
freddy_at_home5 May 2023
I almost pissed myself when I saw the first episode. And I was hooked. Perfect watching before you go to bed, then you can turn over in your bed while you are smiling and just look forward to seeing the next episode the next day.

Very funny and a great cast. Like he said on the tonight show. "I just called them and asked" Excellent. If you like to laugh and have a kind og stupid querky humor, then this is great for ya.

Too bad it's only 8 episodes. This is fun and I would love to watch some more. Really good production. It's rare to actually find something funny to watch these days. Thanks to the whole crew for this. I had a really good time.

Funnier than I thought
lakings9714 July 2023
Bupkis is a Peacock series that portrayed Pete Davidson's life. Pete created and wrote the show and Lorne Michaels was one of the individuals who produced the series. I am not a Pete Davidson fan nor do I ever see myself liking him but this show was funnier than I thought with a great cast. Eddie Falco played Pete's mom and Joe Pesci as his grandfather with Brad Garrett as Uncle Roy who is not directed related. Bobby Cannavale played Uncle Tommy and it showed how he portrayed the male presence in Pete's life after his father's death. Jane Curtis, Steve Buscemi, Method Man, Charlie Day and Keenan Thompson rounded the rest of the supporting cast. Colson Baker, Al Gore, Eli Manning, Sebastian Stan, John Mulaney, Jon Stewart, and Ray Romano played themselves and surprised how they got these names into the series. I am actually looking forward to a second season if there is one. I would definitely recommend for the laughs.

You don't have to be a Pete fan
davidbayjp14 May 2023
I think this show is significantly underrated. It may be an age thing. (I'm older than Pete by a lot).

I do enjoy Pete, but you will love this show if, in your lifetime, Joe Pesci made you laugh out loud 10 times or more, you thought Marissa Tomei was super cool in My Cousin Vinny, you understand the spiritual meaning behind "him, with those ducks", you may never have watched "Everyone Loves Raymond" and you know you never want to have a beer with Ray Romano because he's probably the boring adult in the room, but you love how he dominates every scene he's in across many shows, you secretly suspect Jon Stewart actually is running America behind the scenes...

It made me laugh
C-Diggety-Dawg12 May 2023
Warning: Spoilers
A fictionalised version of Pete Davidson's life that is funny, if a little uneven.

I had no problem with the gross out humour, but some of the jokes did fall a little flat, as did some of the dramatic moments, and at least one episode (the fast and furious send up, lol) was just downright ridiculous.

However, it definitely made me laugh and it was no chore to keep watching all episodes.

The season ends on a somewhat of a cliffhanger, so it will be interesting to see if it gets a second season.

If you don't like Pete Davidson or his style of humour then this is definitely not for you so give it a miss.

I really wanted to like this...
krupocin-114 May 2023
When I saw this show in an article about 2023's top 50 anticipated new series and the cast involved I was very excited for it. Not a huge Pete Davidson fan per se but I usually like him in just about everything he's done outside of SNL (and his stand-up, which is lukewarm at best), he seems to really have a self-effacing quality that, to me at least, makes him more endearing than cringeworthy.

I think the combo of his own writing though, combined with no stronger director or producer at the helm (like king of Staten Island, guided by Apatow, who regardless of what your opinion might be has a LONG track record of being able to get the best out of comedic actors) prevents this from reaching a place that's anywhere above mediocre, at best.

I was hoping for something akin to Dave, a show that is MUCH better than it has any business being because it combines the "bits of true life" storytelling with well-paced, well-shot, hit-all-the-dramatic-beats structure to really make it pop.

Bupkis (terrible name for a series, btw) doesn't really have any of that though, besides the true life nuggets, but instead of being dramatized to effect into compelling story and characters, it just slowly meanders without saying much of anything at all.

A great show can really benefit from tonal range, but when there's really no core or heart to go back to, opening up with a guy nutting on his mom's shirt just feels like one of those American Pie spin-offs with no name actors. Fine, if that's the show you wanna make, that could be funny, but to then shift to a storyline about his grandfather being his best friend and with a terminal illness, it takes skill to pull that off and the people involved here unfortunately just don't have it.

Joe Pesci is an American treasure, but his character here is so boring, he just drops a ton of F bombs and says inappropriate things, again feeling like a character from American Pie: Staten Island, not a prestige TV comedy drama. Like I mentioned I really wanted to like this show, it's about an area I live near and have family from, an all star cast, a lead actor I like, a premise that could be fun or interesting, but it's none of the above.

I made it to the end of episode 6 and I think I've slightly laughed maybe 4-5 times total. On the other hand, this show's drama hasn't made me feel anything, I don't particularly care about these characters or their fates bc it's played like such a cheesy comedy half the time without the dramatic beats to balance it.

I give it a 5 because it's not more recycled IP, but really closer to a 4 which I never would've expected coming into it...

Fun fictionalized version of Pete's life
taos655 May 2023
Warning: Spoilers
Pete Davidson has had some WTF moments in the public eye. One of the healthiest ways to deal with that kind of negative celebrity is to become part of the joke, instead of letting people drive you crazy. That's exactly what Davidson seems to be doing here with Bupkis.

As the title - and the caveat at the beginning of each episode - implies, it's a fictionalized version of his life, not a real story. It's loosely based on his life, in the style of "Weird," the recent Roku Channel movie about Weird Al Yankovic, or Curb Your Enthusiasm. The craziness to which we have been witness is only the beginning. This is a behind-the-scenes, day-to-day weirdness that could possibly apply to any celebrity of Davidson's generation, only Davidson understands how to smoothly tap into the zeitgeist of his generation and turn it into his own personal backdrop.

I wonder how much of it is true, and how much is fiction? Like, I wonder how much his father's death in the national tragedy that was the 9/11 attack affected him, including what he remembers about what his new normal became, and how his family had to compensate for the loss of a man who instantly became (along with the other first responders who died that day) a symbol of American bravery, regardless of who or what they were in their private lives to that point?

Having seen interviews with his mother in real life, this fictionalized version is very over-the-top, and Edie Falco plays her to perfection. Obsessed with Peter, to the point of not seeing her other child as anything but "the sister of Pete Davidson" just like everyone else, is amusing. The rest of the family - mainly played by Brad Garrett and Joe Pesci - as well as Bobby Cannavale's Uncle Tommy, are hilariously written to be typical New York tropes. His entourage/friends are also stereotypes yet played so well.

I'm not a huge Pete Davidson fan, but I'm not a Davidson hater, either. I think he's more talented than many people give him credit for, and that he is of his generation, which isn't my generation (I'm probably older than his mother) but I've always enjoyed his humor, including on SNL. I'm very glad that this show - though executive produced by Lorne Michaels - was written about other parts of Davidson's (fictionalized) life and work outside SNL. The cameos are both notable yet understated, like we can see Pete Davidson - earlier in his career, pre-Ariana Grande - believing that Ray Romano would just show up in his trailer in Canada to give him twisted fatherly advice.

Davidson seems to be embracing the self-deprecating look at his life for our enjoyment, too. This is not his SNL stuff, but this is still the satire he is known for. It's sarcasm. If you 're not a fan of sarcasm, you probably won't enjoy it. If you're not into people being able to poke fun at themselves and at the people who get their jollies off marginalizing them for their own strange purposes, then you can skip Bupkis. I mean, the title tells you this is fiction. If you don't guess that this is Pete Davidson's comedic view of his life, and you don't know that he's a comedian and don't know his kind of humor, your enjoyment or lack thereof is on you, not him.

He's a big boy, he knows what he said. What did ya say? Funny how?
Roogatsby11 May 2023
Warning: Spoilers
If you were a Celebrity with a ton of Clout (not to mention lucrative relationships with some of the most successful Entertainers in the business) this is the type of show you would make, guaranteed.

Of course first you would have to tattoo your entire body then subsequently, over the next decade, get all those tattoos removed. And when that doesn't sort out your emotional damage, you'll talk to half a dozen psychiatrists and do a few ayahuasca retreats. Eventually you would find the path to your one true therapy: manufacturing a television series in which you are the starring role of Dumpster Fire and then cast incredible talented people to help prop you up and put you out. It doesn't even matter if the stories are true, the entire experience will temper some of the extreme alienation that you've lived with for so long and ultimately show people that you are just another human being struggling to fight them common inner demons but PLOT TWIST *You're not a star at all, you're a fly on the wall of your own life and it's time to stop dissociating.

Started kinda lame but it's great
backup-5036229 October 2023
It started with the most generic, overdone, cringey "mom caught me masturbating" skit, and on top of that - with a badly inserted Meta Quest ad. But the more you watch, the better it gets.

I guess I'm one of the few people in the world who doesn't hate Pete, because according to himself, everyone does. I don't follow American pop culture or politics, so maybe I'm out of the loop, but I don't have a single reason to dislike him, other than his terrible taste in women. His early comedy specials were fantastic - and that's all I knew about him going into this.

Unfortunately it's a bit too much like Louie - the most beta male "exaggerated version of a celeb" show to ever exist - which hinders it several times.

But it also has a ton of heartwarming moments, some realness, some good comedy...

I don't know if Pete's a bad person or not, but regardless, if he were a female pop culture personality - he wouldn't be getting all this excessive hate. It wouldn't be that socially acceptable. But he's a guy - so I guess it is? American logic in a nutshell.

I wish he would speak out about this a bit. Johnny Depp was forced to, and I'm pretty sure Pete is kinda being forced to have the balls to speak out on the hypocrisy of male vs female treatment by the media.

Anyway, good show. If you're a fan of Pete, you'll like it. If you're not - I don't know why you'd watch it. Also, Art The Clown makes a random appearance, which was a huge plus.

I have to admit, it was pretty well done!
moxixe5 May 2023
Although some of the sexual innuendos were a bit too dark for me, it was a very imaginative well done series. It was very funny and sad at some points, yet it had a very unique storyline for each episode. A brilliant collaboration of real life with fiction in a way I've never seen before and that's what really blew me away. I wish people could just separate their feelings about Pete, and just look at the artistic way of how these episodes were created and shot because that's the most important thing. He definitely has extreme talent, very good writing skills along with those who collaborated with him to bring this series alive. Pete has set the precedent for other celebrities. I believe we will start to see other celebrities following in his footsteps, using the same style Pete has created to tell his story in his series "Bupkis". Each character in his episodes acting skills were amazing to me. I can totally understand why they all wanted to be a part of this series because it's an amazing story to tell and the way it was told. I just don't understand why people have to be so hateful when there's no reason to be hateful. I say this, because there are some low ratings and reviews for this series. Sure, we all have a right to our own opinions. But not entitled to our own facts. The fact is, aside from Pete Davidson, there's no way that you cannot see the brilliancy of how his story is being told in this series.

This show has to lose 90% of its viewers in the first two minutes
bthigdon8 May 2023
Love a comedian that digs a hole on purpose only to have the audience in his palm by the end of the performance. This ain't for everybody but if you can handle the first two minutes, then you're going to see a very nice story about a family. Peter is guy with acknowledged mental health issues and he's laying it all out there for you. It's surreal and bittersweet.

Edie Falco deserves Emmy recognition and hazard pay. I could see the pain on her face. Thank god that's all that was on her face.

By the way, didn't anybody else see the similarity between the Davidson's kitchen and the Soprano's kitchen? Maybe it was my brain experiencing some weird bias.

Unique telling of a personal story
yecart-658195 May 2023
You don't need to be a Pete fan but you might be won over by the end. This series will pool you right in without his name or input. His acting is quiet and so well done. He's almost a background character in his own life. He's surrounded by a super star in each episode who gives a similar deep performance. Each episode has a unique twist and perspective on how it's told, from 1-8. The writers, directors, actors and Petes own family all deserve a round of applause. There are a couple of scenes that are obviously dramatization like the joy ride, but it really doesn't matter. At the heart of this series are real people, involved in a few very unreal events (9/11 and stardom) but the beauty of it is for the most part they are grounded and like most other family's you know. Pete's mom may very well be the Queen of Staten Island, but she wears her crown to do dishes, run errands, play sport, and love her family, each for who they are. Loved it. Wish there were more episodes!!

Real Life Is Crazier Than Fiction, With A Twist.
sgguru4 May 2023
Warning: Spoilers
Kudos to a great cast! A surprise cameo actor in every scene. Pete Davidson plays himself, accompanied by Joe Pesci as his grandfather, and Edie Falco as his mom. It's a funny glimpse at his real-life, merged with humorous situations. It will keep you wondering just how much of the plot is true, and what is fantasy. I was skeptical, for about one minute, then instantly eager to go along for this wild ride. The episodes are intertwined with flashbacks from Pete's childhood that link to present day events with his family and friends. I especially loved the urinal scene from his uncle's wedding. This series is too racy for prime-time, and Peacock lets the F-bombs fly. TG for cable. It's a feel-good series that will be a big success. You can't help but fall in love with Preston Brodrick who plays a young Pete.

Could've been even better
bigal-5409826 June 2023
There were several good episodes and Pesci and Davidson had some great scenes. My biggest issue was Edie Falco as his mom. She was just not believable as his mother and her acting was not great. I liked her in Sopranos, but this was not a great casting. They need to figure out what they want this show to be in order for it to have multiple seasons. Some episodes had crazy story lines and fun activities and some were so serious you would have thought it was drama. I liked Bobby Carnivale as his uncle and any scene he was in was strong. His friend crew was very unmemorable, in fact I can't think of any of their names.

Low-rent excuse for 'humor'
lmhabig-261887 May 2023
Warning: Spoilers
This show was so bad that I couldn't even get through the first episode. It is filthy, gross and disgusting. Even the legendary Joe Pesci can't save it. If Pete Davidson is trying to tank his post-SNL career, this is a good way to go about it. The mom's shirt, the porn, the prostitute, hotel suite, every other word is the 'F' word, Brad Garret and his hip in a cringeworthy bedroom scene etc...it's like the senior citizen version of porn with a dash of low-brow comedy. Pete Davidson needs to step away from this kind of garbage..playing different, exaggerated versions of himself..and try his acting chops in a serious role. He was funny on SNL, but this is the bottom of the barrel. Nothing funny about it. If you're expecting to see the Brad Garret from Everybody Loves Raymond, you will be WAY disappointed. Something about old men using foul language and in sexual positions adds a real 'ick' factor to this show. Would not recommend.

Beautiful Story
nicolemoscinski5 May 2023
I don't care about these bad reviews they're probably old Karen boomers. These stories were absolutely humorous. It's funny to see how some of these story's are slightly true but a bit skewed for theatrical purposes. I love this show and I feel like you get a sense of some of the crazy stuff Pete has gone through living in the limelight. A glimpse of this guys life in a dark humorous direction. 10/10! Plus love all the cast! So many actors and actresses I grew up watching as a kid (being close in age to Pete). I see and want to believe some of the cast were people who he also enjoyed watching growing up.

one and out
SnoopyStyle22 March 2024
Pete Davidson is playing Pete Davidson... sort of. He's living back home on Staten Island with his mother Amy (Edie Falco). Joe Larocca (Joe Pesci) is his grandpa. He's tired of being the butt of everybody's jokes. In the pilot, he comes on his mother and helps his Uncle Roy (Brad Garrett) come inside a hooker.

It's not the first time that a celebrity is using his real life as fodder for comedic material. Pete Davidson is well suited for this with all his unstable tabloid stories. He dabbles a little with the surreal. It has good potential. It could be a standout if he gets even better. It could be his Atlanta. Of course, he quits after one season. He claims that this part of his life is done. I hope that doing some of his best work isn't the "life" that is over.
