After 24 years, Nirmal Pathak, who was born in Bihar and grew up in New Delhi, returns to his village. Nirmal's family, who has been waiting for his arrival, believes he has returned to attend his cousin Aatish's wedding.
Being a writer, Nirmal starts noting down his experiences, but his mother's questions about his father make him uncomfortable. Under pressure, he promises his entire family that he will call his father the next day.
Nirmal begins to notice the stark reality of his community as the grimy layers of village life begin to peel away. He realises why his father, Mohan Pathak, abandoned the village 24 years ago. He is now in the same position as his father.
Nirmal's relationships suffer as a result of his efforts to do the right thing. Nirmal has previously had a disagreement with his uncle, but his actions are making Aatish uncomfortable.
Nirmal becomes so absorbed in the fight for the right thing that the entire family is separated. But who is to blame, Netaji, Aatish, or his uncle? Or is it the society's belief system?
