Need something more to work
b_clerkin5 December 2023
I've only watched 2 episodes. But I like the premise and I hope it gets better. Tilda the lead character is utterly unlikable. This is never a good thing but I but I think they want to make her funny. She is totally unaware of her truly obnoxious personality or she just doesn't care. Some of the background information provided explains why she is the way she is - overbearing distant father who was continuously disappointed in her, super competitive passive-aggressive sister, who takes pleasure in reminding Tilda of her failures, dead, idealized mother, to whom Tilda bears a starting resemblance- it's all there. Tilda is entitled, over-priviledged and ruthless in her vanity, heedless of other people and a Kardashian level attention seeker. Nobody likes her and it's easy to see why.

Ibrahim, on the other hand, it immediately sympathetic. If other reviewers say he's boring, they're not really paying attention because he lives in his head and it is fascinating to watch as he relentlessly strives to figure out the case. He is ingenious abd creative in managing to overcome the restrictions of his life. He is obviously a student of humanity because he immediately picks out that Tilda is someone that he can exploit to his own purposes. And he is single minded about what he wants and where he wants to go, refusing to give his name or revealing that he is fluent in Swedish and English. The glimpses into his past and how he wound up in Sweden are tantalizing - by episode two, we know that he is a former cop brilliant and intuitive as well as logical.

The show manages to reveal the dilemma faced by refugees and the host country without beating you senseless - a flaw in many programs trying to promote the progressive agenda.

As it moves forward, I hope that we learn Ibrahim's story as well as what Tilda did to be fired. I also hope that she gets a comeuppance for exploiting Ibrahim at some point, but he is willing to be exploited as long as he can remain in Sweden and gets to use his considerable talents.

Suspend scepticism
laduqesa9 January 2024
This was a lovely series full of Swedish whimsy. Yes, there were dark strands but these didn't intrude into the ridiculousnrss of it all. Situations were impossible as were the detective and prosecutorial work. Somehow it didn't matter.

It was a smart piece of writing to make the false reasons for seeking asylum match the real reason for Ibraahin's flight. I'd actually guessed this would turn out to be the case and it was a glimpse of a world far from liberal Sweden, a country that, nonetheless, sends refugees back to their fates.

There were three cases over the six episodes. That was nicely rounded and allowed time for some development amongst the ongoing themes and strands.

Season two is clearly coming. I shall be looking out for it.

Not everyone's mystery tale
passionatesoul-5777130 December 2023
Honestly I feel that this show is unconventional. Because as everyone mentioned above the female lead character Tilda is obnoxious or fool with good for nothing stance and the somalian guy ibrahin is somewhat restraint yet smart policeman running from his past and this collaboration makes things quite interesting. I loved the cinematography and acting of everyone but I am hoping to see a season 2 of it and if it ends up I would like to see more of Tilda and her sister rivalry being in spotlight and so does her colleague Mats antics to find the truth about Tilda and ibrahin. Waiting for it. ...

Unlogical and unrealistic
mickep-197610 April 2023
I ll liked the premise; incompetent downbeated prosecuter takes help from a asylumseeker detective.

The problem is that the characters are unlikeable. She is arrogant and selfabsorbed. He is boring.

If she was the comedic relief (like dr Watson) and he was portraid as smart. (Maybe some clever editing explaning why). And some better story. Now they are relying on.what some call mcguffing. (A special event that happens nearby). It just does not make sence. Some people are not behaving like normal.

The actors are fine. The photo is ok. The editing a little bit off. Its hard to hear What some character are saying sometimes.

It could be an interesting tv-show with some more development.

Get with the premise...enjoy the show.

If you are stuck on pure reality then watch actual, real life, investigation shows. I liked the general absudity and the recovery from the female character that continually created her own demise.

The view into the refugee issues as well as the prior life circumstances that led #24 to the current situation is also a key to the storyline.

Relax and enjoy.a barely likable character whose personality dominates the lives of a few that sit closest to her. If you must, cheer for those that focus on her and.look for the occasion where she will fall. Liked the investigation storylines as they were a strong compliment to ties the stories together.

Great photo but otherwise really bad
tomastungel12 April 2023
Warning: Spoilers
We have now watched 6 episodes from the first (and currently only available) season, and have felt more and more upset about this series. Even more upset when I only find overwhelming professional reviews.

The plot feels very random, and the series of cases does not really link in a realistic way.

Actors behave unnatural and irrational with strange dialogues, facial expressions and emotions. It is far from rational behavior and, if it is supposed to be amusing by exaggeration, it does not work.

The "detective's" findings on leads and conclusions are irrational (the location of the bicycle incident, left/right handed, the car case...). The story/photo does not tell how he could draw those and make further odd investigations, like why he worked a whole day with "asbest cleaning" to spot a witness/suspect...

The angle of showing immigration situation is intersting, but still very messy, and bad linking to different background stories...

Why is the police working in a deserted building with no cars parked outside and the windowblinds shut?

The relation between rivaling sisters (took some time to figure that they were relatives, and not a young stepmother) and their ill father is also utterly odd. Was he well in court, or was she imagining him there?

The actor rooster on this series is good, but they are really acting bad and irrational. I think their experience from previous acting could have salvaged some of this awkwardness (dont overdo reactions, tell the director when things does not make sense), but suprisingly not.

It might have been more attractive if the plot would show some hidden leads for the viewer to make some own detective work, but alas not...

I am really pleased with the photo - nice scenery from sweden and abroad, great color grading, depth of field etcetera...

But otherwise this was a really waste of time!

Really enjoyed, quirky

Warning: Spoilers
Reading the other reviews, I wonder if something was lost in translation and subtitles? I really liked it. I was furious with her unlikable character at first then tolerant as her imperfect and funny character was revealed. I was cheering for her even as she continued to make bad choices. Ibrahim is the story, she is his goofy, predictable side kick. But he is the talent and the one who will succeed thru adversity. I did not see that coming and appreciated the slow reveal of his character and some real surprises. I would like another season to see where he ends up and how she will ultimately fail.

Not just crime investigation
ecopolst26 February 2024
Evaluated as a crime series the Detective from Beledweyne is very light. The time the series spends on social commentary and comedy should however not be ignored. Good acting from at least the two main characters also add to the enjoyiment. A nice modern feel to the script is never wrong either. The storyline moves on at a suitable pace from beginning to end in nice logical fashion.

Together these ingredients come together to a surprisingly enjoyable four hours of watching the six pieces of season one. The end of season one clearly indicate a season two is planned, which I will definitely watch.

Suspensful, well written and great
martinpersson9725 November 2023
Warning: Spoilers
This is definitely one of the better Swedish TV shows of the year, and for sure one of the better TV shows of the year overall.

It is a highly suspenseful crime series, and the script is expertly paced, featuring some great chemistry between the actors. The actors all do an incredible job, and it is, of course, to be expected, given their impressive filmographies.

The cinematography, cutting and editing i great, and overall accompines the tone of the film well, being rather fast paced and very fluid. Very beautifully put together overall.

All around, definitely an incredible show, and one that is highly recommended!

Hope there's a 2nd season!
ratka7929 December 2023
I am not sure why there are so many low reviews for this really refreshing series and I, for one, would love to see the 2nd season. After watching the first 2 episodes, you might think that the leading female charachter is unlikeable and obnoxious (which she is), but as the series progresses one gets to understand her more and kind of root for her, as well.

As for the leading male character, he's just great and the way the actor portrays him is very, very touching indeed. The whole series is excellent, I binge-watched it in a day and highly recommend it.

I would love to see these two work together on cases, as well as on each other, because this is where the writing is clearly headed to - to their mutual change in behaviour and views, something of a rub-off effect, I would say.

So, 8 stars for this, realistically.

Very interesting and enjoyable
This series is very interesting and enjoyable.

Good acting, good cinematography, interesting story about immigration problems world over and different attitudes about inclusion and not.

Twisted family relationships, always interesting to see in any culture.

Characters with depth, actors playing them very well.

Plot incidents a little weird and possibly not entirely logical or believable but that is not important!

This is fiction, more or less, intended as a short escape from the stress of real life.

In that function it does very well.

Hopefully, it will continue doing just that for many series to come.
