Refreshing

Luckily Ricky Gervais is around to remind everyone that comedy should be free from restraints and should absolutely challenge the topics which are pressing matters of the day. You'll either like it or you won't, thats whats great about comedy, horses for different courses and freedom of expression.

I laughed so hard
MovieCriticOnline27 May 2022
I laughed so hard and I haven't laughed in a while at a standup. Ricky just doesn't gaf and it's great. He pokes fun of everything as he should.

And I love his energy and pacing. Not a dull moment.

He doesn't care, and that's a good thing!
rws_2024 May 2022
I like Ricky's comedy because he's one of the only ones left today who will just tear into anything - he doesn't care, and that's what's great about his stand-up.

I look forward to seeing all the fragiles that will be crying over this and screaming for his cancellation ... you know it's coming.

I'm just glad people like this still exist, I can't watch any of the sellouts that stand there spitting out boring, humourless, carefully-worded material that only the woke could ever laugh at.

It was a funny special, some good jokes in there. Not as good as some of his previous in my opinion, but still a funny watch nonetheless.

Unapologetic
akira-hideyo26 May 2022
I had expectations prior to watching and they were all exceeded. He dealt each punch effortlessly without taking a pause and never missing a beat. That's masterclass. It's clear many jokes that would deem very politically incorrect or offensive were easily muck dispersed by understanding that all were in actuality true human observations and realities. He minces no words nor imposes bias. He merely reminds what a spade is. What I took away from this immensely enjoyable, almost 65 minutes of comic stand up, was the sheer brilliance of his intelligence, deductions, logic and detached neutral empathy, wicked passive aggressive humor and subtle surrender of how eventually all humanity is fudged at the current trajectory. So just drink, eat....be merry and poofed from existence. Can't agree more Ricky.

Classic Gervais
dongillette124 May 2022
Hilarious, rapid-fire, and exactly what I expected. I especially liked the true stories of his school days and the parts short bit about Eddie Izzard (because Gervais borrows from Izzard's style quite a bit.) ALMOST as good as his Golden Globe appearances.

Something actually decent to watch on Netflix. Refreshing light in the darkness.

There is so much brainwashing content around these days it's nice to hear something different.

Return comeback for Gervais
AdrenalinDragon24 May 2022
Welcome back Ricky! Just what I needed a good laugh and for you to not give a crap about who you offend to entertain. Thanks for calling out all the stupidity and hypocrisy. Just what we need in today's crazy world of what we live in.

7/10.

For fighting for comedy.

Superb and fearless show that I'm certain his fellow comedians will appreciate. Take a bow Ricky. You are no doubt going to get some flack for this one, but it will be worth it.

Worth a watch but not his best work
AfricanBro31 May 2022
The only reason I still use Netflix these days is to watch stand up. Ricky gervais... a lot of people don't like him, and it's for the same reasons that I do like him. I like dark humor and I know that humors subjective so I get that, I just don't understand why you'd still bother yourself to go and watch, even pay. And he addresses the sensitivity issue in the show. I like it a slightly more than his previous special, and a lot of people complained about how distasteful Supernature is so I was excited to see it. It feels like he goes in the same route as Humanity; his Twitter jokes and oh I'm rich material. I thought "Humanity" fluctuated a bit, he'd say something that makes me laugh out loud and I'd wait a couple minutes for the next one, while this was more consistent. I don't think it's his best work but I still liked it. My complaint is the reaction; you watch stand up because you want a laugh but you can see a lot of the audience reactions are more like applauds and a lot of comedians have been chasing that not the actual laughs. Mostly like 'oh yeah, to hell with woke culture' and the crowd reacts.

Of course he still sticks in some jokes while he's at it. I think he started off really strong but at some point just drops off and after that isn't as memorable especially if you watched his previous work. Not exactly funny, just topics you can agree with or "edgy" and I suspect that's where the really high ratings and reviews are coming from. People happy he's calling out cancel culture and woke comedy.

I like dark humor, I don't think there should be rules to comedy. Some people don't like it and that's fine, go find a comedian you like if that's the case and stick to them instead of spending time listening to someone or something you don't like. Why do that to yourself?🤷‍♂️

Now, I always like to mention Adrienne Iapalucci when talking dark humor since there aren't many female comedians who do it and still funny, most are either just vulgar or offensive. She features on Netflix's "The Degenerates" and it's worth a watch if you like dark satire and it's only a few minutes.

Jokes are funny
kaseymoore-3615324 May 2022
His best special to date imo. Nothing off-limits and the fact he has to repeatedly explain what a joke is throughout makes you realise why we're in such a hostile society right now.

Hit and miss
grantss25 May 2022
A Netflix-produced Ricky Gervais stand-up comedy special.

If you're familiar with Ricky Gervais you'll know his comedic style by now: refreshingly irreverent, unPC and not afraid to offend. In fact, that's often the aim, offending those without a sense of humour. His appearances at the Golden Globes and his previous special, Humanity, are great examples of his work.

Despite being quite direct and unfiltered there's usually a large degree of intelligence behind the humour, with clever build-ups to punchlines and well-structured arcs to ongoing jokes.

However, in SuperNature the jokes and the structure in general seems less well thought-out. There's some really funny bits but there's also some parts that just seem like he didn't prepare at all and is just stringing random thoughts together. There's some good jabs at woke bs and then some lines that are just there for shock value.

Overall it's quite hit and miss and not in the same league as his best stuff.

Thanks for existing Ricky Gervais
namenbasil125 May 2022
Hilarious and most importantly happy that one of the most sincere and logical views of te world has a voice and lets some of us feel we're not alone. Nowadays, few people with his influence, approach things the way he does which in my opinion is an approach we should all listen to and live by.

Not bad
Kingslaay26 May 2022
Over the last few years Ricky Gervais has become one of my favourite comedians. I quite like his brand of humour and delivery. I more or less enjoyed this special. Most of the jokes were funny and I cracked up. Some bits I didn't find too funny but some punchlines stick and some always don't. Ricky was bang on about society being too PC, precious and offended by everything. He hilariously said he didn't discriminate and everyone was fair game, nice one. Ironically the media's PC response and some people's reactions have proven Ricky's points, people are too sensitive and get offended for almost anything. His jokes about this have been proven true in real life.

Some funny parts, but he sort of sleepwalked through this one
Jeremy_Urquhart25 May 2022
Definitely his weakest special - it's bookended by stuff that tries a little hard to be outrageous (it's not that it's taboo by itself; it's that it's a bit lazy taboo content), but there's a chunk in the middle that delivered a few laughs for me.

The funny stuff is let down by the fake laughing he does (he's always done it, but he might've done it more here). Then there's the "they're not gonna keep that in the special" line, which was funny maybe once, but he says it like four or five times without building on it. And some of the more innocent subjects are so tired and worn out in standup comedy I was shocked he resorted to them without putting a spin or some sort of subversive element to them (complaining about naked men being over-confident in change rooms? Really?)

I'll sit in the middle. I can see people hating this and certain people loving it. Can't deny there were some parts that were funny for me, and I think Gervais still knows how to deliver a joke for sure- when he's not doing that stupid fake laugh at least. But it's more the actual jokes themselves that are pretty so-so, and it's overall disappointing by Gervais's standards.

Brilliant, Funny, Intelligent. Thank You.
UltraMaximal24 May 2022
Ricky goes for the throat in this one. Nothing at all is sacred and he does it with intelligence! Those that are offended should be offended because they didn't watch the whole thing to see the brilliance.

When you accept and approve of yourself you won't need anyone else's.

Thank heavens for Ricky Gervais

We need more people like RG to stand up to the 'woke' brigade and this will get their knickers in a proper twist. I just love the fact that he doesn't care who he upsets, I no longer watch any off the main stream comedians with all their woke views.

Loved it, hilarious 😂

Not terrible but not his best
argylx30 May 2022
Let's drop the partisan "woke vs. Free speech" thing for a minute and just judge this as a stand up comedy show.

I'm a big fan of Gervais. I've seen a few of his shows live. I'd rate him better as a TV writer/producer than as a stand up but he's done some very good shows in the past (particularly Politics and Animals, both outstanding).

Supernature is somewhat mediocre. It's not terrible, it's maybe slightly better than his "Science" show but I think you have to be kidding yourself to give this 10/10 or even 7/10 on quality of laughs. The problem with Supernature isn't the use of crass, trying-to-offend-you humour about everything from AIDS to the Holocaust to the big T issue, it's that he's trying so, so hard that he ends up delivering his point with all the subtlety of beating someone around the head with a cue ball in a sock.

His long-time habit of finding himself and his own jokes so hilarious he spends extended periods rolling around on the stage laughing at what he's about to tell you before he tells it also detracts from the humour. The punchlines largely fall flat and aren't worth the build-up.

The result is you'll get a few strong laughs, a lot of weak ones and depending where your political views fall might get a feeling of "yeah, you sock it to 'em, Gervais!" which leaves you prone to thinking the whole show was a lot funnier than it was.

Glorious...
grahamdean24 May 2022
Brilliant, Gervais still at his best.

Please don't watch if fragility is your thing or if you take offence at humour, it won't be for you. "Vicky" Gervais talks about life and wokeism to great effect, yes he has a pop at different cultures and groups, but it's only a joke !!!

Dark humor. Made me laugh. Good special.
CasuallViewer26 May 2022
Had a good laugh a couple of times. He enters, drops all sorts of "offensive" jokes, and leaves. He did his thing and he did it well. Delivery was natural, no forced build-up, maybe a meh joke here and there, but the show rolled smoothly from one part to the next as he seemed to have fun as well. Wish Ricky all the best on his next visit to the doctor.

Fantastic special, lots of great moments and jokes! Wroth buying Netflix just for this. Lots of humorless twitter-people hate it so you know its golden.

Hilarious and spot on...
paul_haakonsen2 June 2022
Right, well I am not overly much a fan of Ricky Gervais, though I do find him funny, and by that I mean that I don't actively have been picking his particular comedy shows to sit down and watch. But I happened to read about some negative response to this particular show, which made me interested in actually watching the show. So I went on Netflix and sat down to watch.

And I have to admit that I was genuinely entertained and amused by this 2022 comedy special titled "Ricky Gervais: SuperNature". Why? Well, because Ricky Gervais - or should I say Vicky Gervais - is just downright hilarious. I had lots of good and genuine laughs throughout the 64 minutes the show ran for. And I absolutely love the raw, unfiltered way that Ricky Gervais delivers his jokes and punchlines. And with the material in this show, I be a lot of the "Woke" influenced people out there will be offended about almost everything here.

The jokes in the show are genuinely funny and Ricky Gervais is spot on in his delivery, though he is having a hard time keeping a straight face throughout the course of the show. But it just adds to the punchline, doesn't it? Because he knows that this will probably infuriate a whole lot of self-absorbed people, but he is right about his statements, comments and jokes. And that is what makes "Ricky Gervais: SuperNature" all the more enjoyable and spot on.

I was genuinely entertained here, and I am happy that I opted to sit down to watch this 2022 comedy special. And even if you are not a fan of Ricky Gervais, you should definitely take the time to sit down and watch this show.

My rating of "Ricky Gervais: SuperNature" lands on well-deserved seven out of ten stars.

Hilarious as always
JonanthanNewOrleans27 May 2022
The world is so big and so full of people if you are offended and woke simply don't watch it ; the only reason you know him is because he is famous but there are millions and millions of people who have the same humor and love of irony and sarcasm as him.

Hilarious

He got a bit lazy
eronzierjoly25 May 2022
You have to love Ricky to appreciate this. It was in essence a repetition of his special Humanity (which I loved). Nothing new here and so it was a let-down for me. Still rating it 7 because he is my favourite comedian still and I love his energy.

Good, but not awesome.
athborz-362873 June 2022
It is good, but I didn't feel watching a stand up show, felt more like a ted talk containing more jokes than usual, of course I enjoy listening to Ricky he is a great human been, and indeed he has interesting insights on Humans. To sum it up, it was entertaining and nice to watch show, but the amount of my laughs were less than expected.

Ricky's getting lazy
ollywilks1 June 2022
Really lazy writing in this one, there are bits where he more or less tells the exact same jokes as in his previous show Humanity.

His delivery is still good but there's nothing new in it at all it's just the same topics as before; him being rich, fat people, trans people, AIDs and being an atheist.

Also I find the way he talks about his Twitter feuds in every show so dull. Change the record Ricky.
