Worth seeing but the ending hurts it
preppy-33 July 2013
Hunky Nathan (Brendan Shucart) is going at it hot and heavy with equally hunky Ryan (James Artur M)...but then Ryan notices this growth on Nathan's butt crack. Nathan goes back home and whatever it is starts growing and Nathan doesn't know what to do.

It starts off great with a lot of hot guy on guy kissing and full frontal male nudity (from Shucart) and it gets disturbing and sick (as it should be). It escalates until you're just horrified and disturbed...and then it drops the ball completely at a real lousy ending. Still I recommend it. It is well made with a real scary feel to it. The growth is downright disgusting! Also the acting is great. Shucart has the main role and he's great. He's nude quite a bit and--let's face it--he has guts taking on this role. Most actors wouldn't touch it. So--it's creepy and disturbing despite the lousy ending.

Painful...in so many regards
Coralknight13 November 2016
**contains spoilers** An attempt at cinema grotesque, the film is actually pretty cerebral if you happen to be a gay man. The plot itself can be quickly summarized as: gay "hook-up" is cut short when during the act, one man (Nathan) is informed he has a hideous growth on his buttocks which becomes increasingly more painful and unmanageable. There are themes gay men will find familiar from the very beginning when Nathan's hook-up begins to subtly humiliate him and assert his dominance ("you should work out more"). As Nathan's growth is located on his buttocks, he is immediately more concerned with how it looks (knowing this is a key part of his sexuality) and apparently only secondarily how painful it is becoming. There is a jab at the US healthcare system at the time; Nathan knows (as many of us did) that a trip to the emergency room without insurance will cost him thousands of dollars... which by his living situation is obvious he doesn't have. He resorts to calling another former hook-up who has a medical background; at first trying to simply forget about everything and become a sexual man again, but after this fails, Nathan turns to him for medical advice...which he still doesn't receive. Even the title, which has a VERY specific connotation in the gay community points to the underlying theme of a very real fear which many men have to either suppress or deal with every time they have sex: that despite best efforts they might still catch some type of disease or "bug"...but their sex drive compels them to continue.

Overall, this was very well edited (probably one of the most realistically gory movies I've seen),the sound quality was great and Brenden Shucart's acting is really amazing for what he had to go through in this. However, the writer/director just couldn't resist writing a part for himself...and without even knowing anything about this film, when a certain character started speaking I knew exactly who he must be, as his abilities were noticeably amateur. And the WORST (and I mean irredeemably) part was the ending; lazy....just lazy.

Absolutely repulsive

Warning: Spoilers
"Bug Chaser" is a 19-minute live action short film from the United States and this one was made in 2012, so next year it will have its 5th anniversary. The writer and director is Ian Wolfley and I don't know any of the actors. you can check their names for yourself. This is a gay-themed short film. During a one-night stand, one man discovers some nasty growth in the other's butt. And the entire film is focused on this one afterward. What is it? Where did it come from? How to get rid of it. I have no problem with the graphic male nudity in here as it fit the situations most of the time. The problem I have is that I do not want to see any genital diseases when I am watching a film like this. Completely gross and disgusting. It was more than enough the way they showed it early on. No need to show the protagonist going on it with a knife. What the hell? Go see a doctor please, this is not the year 1200. Also what was it with the very final scene? Frozen yogurt? looks like somebody was in desperate need of a happy ending that did not make any sense at all right Mr. Wolfley? The title is just as bad as it's click bait only. The film has nothing to do with the concept of bug chasing. A despicable short film through and through that lacks in all areas, especially story-telling. Stay far far away.

gave me the creeps!

Freaky, humpey, DIY feel to it, loved it!! Made my skin squirm with the insect aspect....more, please, Mr Wolfley! Starts off w a slow, sultry dance between two boys, and quickly escalates into a frenzy of skin-chilling fright. The cameo by director Ian Wolfley is priceless!! It looks like he has a huge future in the film industry; I look forward to seeing more work from this director. Has a very West Coast/Bay Area vibe, very cutting edge look and feel to the film. I understand the Director hails from Utah originally, but he portrays 2000's California in minute, and dark, detail. after this film, I'd like to see a longer version of the same idea, fully fleshed out with a HUGE budget!!!
