As a kid growing up in Carol City, FL, NOT MIAMI GARDENS, during the early 70s, I remember my late Mother Ada M. Short telling me she had a surprise for me one day after school. I should've known something was up because she told me she was coming to pick me up from school and if I had one speck of dirt on me, I was getting a spanking. She must've told my teacher too because I got no recess and no ice cream during lunch. Low and behold, I was not only chosen to be an audience member, but I was selected as the kid to introduce Mr. Zink, aka Skipper Chuck...Heeere's Skipper Chuck(my lines)! And of course my polyester outfit was custom made by our family seamstress, my talented Aunt Rosemary.

Who remembers this show, I do!

Quite surprised that I am the first to write about this little show, as it was kind of a big deal if you were a kid growing up in South Florida in the 60's & 70's. Most of us were "on it" during that time at least once, as there was a live audience, comprised of local kids.
I remember going as part of someones birthday party and it was pretty cool to see yourself the next morning on TV, Black & White for us at the time. Skipper Chuck had a sidekick named Scrubby, who was eerily similar to one "Gilligan", of Gilligan's Island fame, as that show was pretty big at the time. It was fun for the kids, as it was meant to be, and Skipper Chuck was a Good Guy and a positive role model (remember those?!) so we all benefited from this show and it's local influence.
That is all, carry on!

Skipper Chuck
Where do I begin.
How about with three fingers Peace,Love and Happiness ?
No, that's not the beginning but the end.
Here's a little known but very special fact about the show.
The Skipper Chuck Show was the first kids show in the nation that was integrated allowing all children to have a special place to have fun.
This show also paid a frightening price for being the exception and not the rule of that time. The main sponsor of the show was a popular burger joint W. C. that pulled its sponsorship because of the fun loving trend setting Chuck Zink.
But in its most frustrating moments low and behold a newly opened Hamburger Restaurant in Orlando took over the duties and the bills in 1962 and the show was saved.
And that new sponsor was The Burger King 🤴!

I lived in SW Miami from 1966-1972. I watched Skipper Chuck every morning before going to school!! What a wonderful memory.
My father, James J McCrudden worked for WTVJ- Wometco enterprises. He got me and my cousin on the show around 1968. I remember the Skipper sat right next to me! My parents watched us from a room with TV's connected to the show.
We were given Burger King at commercial break.
After the show we were all treated with a bag of goodies from the sponsers and WTVJ,
I wonder now if it's possible to view old tapes of the shows? Anyone out there with more information on this matter?
