Cal's sister Gabby wakes up from her coma and his brought back home. But later on, she is kidnapped. The media and police blame it on Cal. Cal, Winter, Boges, and this ex-detective Nelson whom they team up with in this episode discover that Oriana has Gabby. She makes a deal - Gabby for all the clues and stuff they have figured out of the mystery so far. Okay. I know I say "Don't compare TV and film adaptions to the book" etc., etc. But, I have to be honest, I couldn't help it in this one. In the book, Gabby is kidnapped while she is still in the coma, so I was disappointed when they had her wake up early on in the episode (but that allowed for an emotional scene with Cal, Gabby, and their mother, so that makes up for it). In the book, Cal has Winter redraw the drawings that Cal's father left him, almost exactly, but with very slight differences to throw Oriana off track and Cal arranges for Boges and Nelson (or Sharkey as he was called in the novels) to be in hiding to swoop in and save them if necessary. Why on earth didn't they do that in the episode!? Instead, Cal willingly goes to hand over the stuff and not once is the idea of doing a slightly tampered version of the drawings ever addressed! And to top it all off, Cal insists that Boges and Nelson cannot be around at all. Just Cal and Winter. He doesn't think in this episode, doesn't want a back up, doesn't want to get Gabby while throwing Oriana off track. What is going through his head? It doesn't make any sense! Especially about not wanting any back up. I know we all have our moments of insanity, but that is not a good enough excuse, here. I didn't intentionally compare. I was simply disappointed with this episode. Especially with regards to rescuing Gabby - what they did simply didn't make any sense. Cal wasn't thinking. Thankfully, they kept the cliffhanger. I don't like this one very much. I tried, but couldn't.
