Blue Jasmine (12A)
(Woody Allen, 2013, Us) Cate Blanchett, Alec Baldwin, Peter Sarsgaard. 98 mins
In the downward trajectory of late-era Allen comes a startling spike to remind us how great he still can be, especially when it comes to women's roles. This show belongs to Blanchett, playing a Manhattan one-percenter brought down to earth. Propped up by alcohol, drugs and her sister, she's an accident that's already happening, and a magnificent, tragicomic creation.
Prisoners (15)
(Denis Villeneuve, 2013, Us) Hugh Jackman, Jake Gyllenhaal, Paul Dano. 153 mins
A kidnapping case refuses to crack in this weighty, slippery whodunit.
Greedy Lying Bastards (12A)

★★☆☆☆ An obnoxious, Michael Moore-aping battle cry against big industry and its ties to climate change denial, Craig Scott Rosebraugh's subtly titled Greedy Lying Bastards (2012) may have the very best of intentions, but fails to hold interest due to its fragmented structure and lack of cold, hard figures. It quickly becomes difficult to separate fact from opinion, culminating in a doc far less provocative than Al Gore's The Inconvenient Truth, Jeff Orlowski's superb Chasing Ice and other films of that ilk. "It's time to really hit these bastards where it hurts," Rosebraugh proclaims - something this petty offering fails to do.
Greedy Lying Bastards sets out to castigate the seemingly reprehensible individuals and organisations responsible for spreading doubt and mistrust on the climate change issue, predominantly through right-wing media sympathisers including - of course - Fox News. With his targets encompassing the Koch Brothers and ExxonMobil, as well...

Sen. James Inhofe is taking criticism of his climate change denial as a compliment.
The Oklahoma Republican is one of the central targets in the newly released climate change documentary "Greedy Lying Bastards," which examines attempts by the fossil fuel industry to thwart emissions standards and mispresent the facts in the face of changing global climate conditions. The film airs Friday at a special screening in Tulsa, Okla.
"I was not surprised to see myself front and center on the promotional material for this climate change movie," he told the Tulsa World, "and quite frankly, I'm proud of it."
Inhofe has long called climate change a "hoax," insisting "we're in a cold spell" when it snows, despite the body of scientific evidence showing that humans contribute to global warming.
Inhofe is featured front and center in a promotional poster for the film, which is executive-produced by actress-turned-activist Daryl Hannah, and...

From TakePart's Jon Bowermaster:
Eco-activist Craig Rosebraugh is the first to admit he took “a sizable gamble” by titling his first film so provocatively—Greedy Lying Bastards.
The hard-hitting documentary is a sophisticated, four-years-in-the-making look at the deviousness of climate change deniers using archival footage and new interviews. It was intended to be “a bit more in your face” than most docs, Rosebraugh admits.
Now showing across the country in more than 30 cities, it appears that despite the provocative title, audiences are ready for climate change films at cineplexes. (See also James Balog’s Chasing Ice, which continues to screen across the country thanks to phenomenal footage of glaciers in retreat and great word of mouth.)
Both filmmaker and his eco-audience have been encouraged by mainstream reviews. “A single-minded attack … may just be the feel-good documentary of the year,” wrote the New York Times. “Sober—and sobering,” according to the Washington Post.

Seven years after "An Inconvenient Truth," what has changed in the world's efforts to come to grips with global warming? The scientific consensus has firmed up, even further. Public opinion has, at last, fallen in line with the science, assisted by any number of in-your-face extreme weather events -- epic droughts, record ice melts, multiple applications of the phrase "storm of the century."
But action? Nothing. By anyone.
So filmmaker Craig Scott Rosebraugh ("Seventh Generation") dispenses with conveniences and niceties and goes straight for the jugular with "Greedy Lying Bastards," a documentary about the folks who have fought, stalled and misdirected the international conversation about this dire subject for decades.
"Climate change is already with us," Rosebraugh narrates over a montage of very recent natural disasters, from floods to droughts, wildfires to hurricanes. "We knew decades ago" that this was coming, he adds. And to make his point, he shows...

Title: Greedy Lying Bastards One Earth Productions Director: Craig Rosebraugh Screenwriter: Craig Rosebraugh, Patrick Gambuti, Jr. Screened at: Review 2, NYC, 2/19/13 Opens: March 8, 2103 In his new book “The Future,” former vice president Al Gore notes that “[m]any companies have provided large amounts of money over the last two decades to ‘liars for hire’ who turn out a seemingly endless stream of misleading, peripheral, irrelevant, false, and unscientific claims.” Among the outrageous claims he cites are that “Global warning is a hoax…by activists who want to impose socialism or worse,” and that global warming “is the result of a natural cycle.” One can conclude only that the reason [ Read More ]

Daryl Hannah has signed on as executive producer of the documentary Greedy Lying Bastards, directed by first-time filmmaker Craig Rosebraugh. The $1.5 million film is an investigation of the influence the fossil fuel industry has had on the political process and efforts to combat climate change. “Daryl is a gifted actress with an impressive commitment to environmental protection," said Rosebraugh. "We are elated to have her on the project.” Patrick Gambuti Jr. co-wrote and edited the documentary, and Michael Brook, who scored An Inconvenient Truth, is composing the original score. Hannah has been a public

Craig Rosebraugh's new documentary highlights the 'influence, deceit and corruption' of fossil fuel industry
Provocative, frank and impossible to ignore. And that's just the title.
Craig Rosebraugh, a Us filmmaker and political activist, has produced a feature-length documentary that demands to be seen. Greedy Lying Bastards is still awaiting a firm release date – sometime in 2012 is the current promise – but, if the trailer and impressive roster of interviewees are anything to go by, it's likely to cause quite a stir.
Filmed over the past two years and across nine countries, Greedy Lying Bastards claims to be a "searing indictment of the influence, deceit and corruption that defines the fossil fuel industry":
Rosebraugh documents the impact of an industry that puts profits before people, wages a campaign of lies to thwart measures to combat climate change, uses its clout to minimize infringing regulations and undermined the political process in the U.
