Side Case
eoinpgeary20 January 2023
This episode steps away from our main story line of the season focusing on a one off case, it's actually quite a good case, I find it crazy that they can keep coming up with them !

I did like this episode, it isn't as impactful as other episodes but it's still pretty good, I do think though maybe if we got another sub plot early on it could have come to fruition now and into ep8 leading into our semi and finale which I think would have kept the pace at a bit of a better flow.

There were some good moments in this ep, Penelope and Prentis being the characters that I found the best and also the scenes within the new case, not a fan of the home life for Scarius.

Throwback episode for the fans of the original series.

Warning: Spoilers
I imagine this episode was written in to appease the fans of the way the original Criminal Minds was written. It was an episode where they presented and solved a case within one episode. The only real enlightenments presentented in this episode were Sicarius' hatred for his wife and children and that maybe they just serve as a forensic countermeasure for him. The other valuable exposition was to show us that Sicarius' puppeteer and enabler is actually further up the bureaucratic food chain than Emily's boss, Bailey. Otherwise it was pretty much a run of the mill episode of the old Criminal Minds format. Oh, and Penelope found a new playmate!

Pick up a map

Seriously... it's distracting when glaring geography errors pop up in any show. In this one, first, Harpers Ferry does not have a college, and second, Harpers Ferry is about a one hour drive from DC. It would take more time for the team to get to an airport to their jet, fly to Martinsburg (the closest town with an adequate airport), and then 35 minute drive from Martinsburg to Harpers Ferry. Writers could have put even a little bit of authenticity into the show if they had bothered to research the area and used Martinsburg, WV, Hagerstown, MD, Frederick, MD, or any other mid to large size town in the region which actually have colleges and an airport. Won't even get into using the wrong state flag. Otherwise a satisfying episode.

What Doesn't Kill Us

Warning: Spoilers
Given the title for this episode "What Doesn't Kill Us" I think we would have been better off just listening to the similar sounding Kelly Clarkson song on replay than watching this episode.

Criminal Minds was one of CBS' better procedurals for the bulk of its run, but this episode was the definition of unspectacular. We are just seeing too much drivel with this story arc and way too much killing time before they head to the big finish.

This revival series started with a whole lot of promise, but has started to cool off a little bit. It is definitely not a bad thing that this only is 10 episodes and we only have a few left to go.

Just the facts!

I really like the show and the way they criminal (smart to genius) vs the (best agents) FBI. Penelope is not an agent and her at times pointless banter gives a break from the blood, guts and torcher. Dr. Tara Lewis is just a useless, whining, cry face, looking for love in all the wrong places, is always in need of saving and only served to be a we included everyone character. Prentis is a protective, fearless leader who enjoys being the lead dog. Really love Rossi but how many must be 65+ year old agents are really still in the field. The side case was, so far to the side what was the point. There's two really good criminal master minds giving the BAU the blues so there really wasn't much need for the Virginia quickie.
