Beautiful short ... will stay with you ...
londonviewer15 April 2012
I saw this as part of a collection of short films at last month's London Lesbian & Gay Film Festival ... and this was the film that stayed with me most.

The location is absolutely stunning, and the film makes the most of it with truly haunting images - and it is these that linger in the mind long after the film finishes ...

The storyline is somewhat derivative, but the character of Jan is well formed, and you can really feel his emotions.

The ending is one of those which leaves it up to you to decide - which I like, as I imagine the different possibilities ... but if you're the sort of person who wants everything to be nicely sewn up, prepare to be disappointed !

Strikes a beautiful haunting mood

Warning: Spoilers
A beautiful movie that takes place near/in an old, very large, Nazi settlement, Prora, that is in decay and disrepair. The focus of the film is two boys who had been out partying all night and decided to hang out during the morning after. One of the boys, Matthieu, talks about all of the girls he wants to "do", but the other boy, Jan, looks wistfully away as Matthieu is talking/boasting. Matthieu, somewhat playfully, invades the Prora and Jan goes looking for him, worried about his friend. Jan finds Matthieu and the two boys have some experiences in the dilapidated Prora that will change their relationship forever.

There was a lot to like in this film. The setting is beautiful and haunting and the fact that the settlement is abandoned and dilapidated sets a beautifully provocative mood. The acting is good and the character of Jan is especially well performed, with considerable depth. The ending helps to set the movie apart, being very different from many of the overused endings in so many films. This movie stayed with me and I highly recommend it.

Odd holiday destination?
adamjohns-425755 July 2021
What the hell is a Nazi holiday camp? It's as creepy as an internment camp by the seem of things. The lads are very cute though.

The BOF DVDs are just filled with the experiences that I wish I'd had.

It's not the easiest time for Jan, but at least there was a hope of something positive at the end of it.

It has a 'Hollyoaks' or 'Skins' type feel to it and I can see it appealing to younger viewers.

Concise and contained, but it would make a great longer film. I'd love to know how they progressed after this point.

659.65/1000.

about grow up
Kirpianuscus3 July 2017
beautiful. smart. and touching. the film who reminds many others but , for this motif, it remains special. because it is a simple story about friendship, a place of past, teenagers and a gesture. and the end, the end is really useful for define the essence of story. because it is not exactly sad or melancholic but the wise definition of the end of a superb age. and the reason for Prora to be one of the films who gives more than a nice show but a perspective - precise, realistic - of the friendship, games, limits, shame and pain. and this does it a film about grow up more than a love story.
