Kanye West will receive the Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award at this year's MTV Video Music Awards in honor of his innovative music videos and live performances, and continued work in music, art and fashion.
West has been nominated for over 30 Moonmen — starting with four for 2004's "All Falls Down" — yet has only won two (Best Male Video for "Jesus Walks" in 2005; Best Special Effects for "Good Life" in 2008). Still, those numerous nods reflect a unique body of work packed with arresting clips like the first-person "All Falls Down," the Daft Punk-featuring "Stronger,...

Kim Kardashian continues to inspire! Most recently the E! star served as the muse behind one very cool-looking peep toe bootie in Giuseppe Zanotti's latest collection. The shoe, aptly named "Mrs. West" is part of the Italian designer's Rock 'n' Roll line, which celebrates the brand's 20th anniversary. The sexy black stiletto was originally designed for Kanye West's now-wife back in 2012 and features oversize metal hard wear down the front. Zanotti has teamed up with the Grammy winner on several strappy sandals and sneakers in the past. Last year the pair worked on all-white heels named "Cruel Summer," after the rapper's 2013 album. In fact, the designer...

Thank Yeezus! Kanye West may be busy with touring, planning a wedding, fathering an infant, being a fashion icon, and making insane music videos with Kim Kardashian, but the outspoken rapper told Philly’s Power 99 that he’s already working on his next album, which he hopes to release next summer.
Kanye West, 36, is never one to sit pretty. Even though he’s currently headlining a world tour and planning a wedding to his baby mama and “Bound 2″ co-star Kim Kardashian, 33, he’s still planning to drop his next album next summer. Read on for more details!

Editor’s Note: Kevin’s review of Blue Caprice originally ran during this year’s Sundance Film Festival, but we’re re-posting it now as the film opens in limited release. The Beltway Snipers captivated the country’s attention and established a shroud of fear for people living in Washington, D.C., Maryland, and Virginia back in October of 2002. Blue Caprice is loosely inspired by that story, keeping some of the key players and events while changing backgrounds and actions significantly. Director Alexandre Moors (Cruel Summer) wanted to focus on the relationship between the elder John Allen Muhammad and the younger Lee Boyd Malvo rather than making the film about the actual murders themselves. Fiction diverges from reality right from the beginning of the film, with Lee (Tequan Richmond) first encountering John (Isaiah Washington) in Antigua after his mother leaves him to fend for himself. In reality, John met and knew Lee’s mother. For...

Kanye West. Just say the name in a group of people and you will get a bevy of responses: an idiot, a genius, a narcissist, or (according to President Obama) a jackass. Arguably the most controversial pop artist making music today, Yeezy is certainly a lightning rod. He’s said that George Bush doesn’t like black people, Single Ladies is one of the greatest videos of all-time, and that he is a god (so hurry up with his damn croissants).
With a persona that often overshadows his music, Kanye has expertly spun his publicity into his music; courting controversy and marrying his excessive lifestyle with musical grandiosity. Whatever direction Kanye goes, popular music seems to follow him. So even if you don’t like him, there is no arguing that he is influential. And with near unanimous critical acclaim for his musical output (particularly his most recent solo albums...

There’s a long history of comic book artists treading into the neighboring world of album cover art especially when psychedelia, counter-culture, fantasy or heavy metal bridged the distance between the art table and the turn table. Usually it’s an art table star — like R. Crumb, Berni Wrightson, Barry Windsor-Smith or Paul Pope to just a few — playing the tourist in turntable territory but the exact opposite is the case with the cover for Head Smash.

Kim Kardashian and Kanye West haven't been spending very much time together lately, a fact that led to reports the pair were a couple no longer.
West has been living in Paris, where he is recording his forthcoming sixth studio album. And Kim has been stateside doing what she does best: making red carpet and TV talk show appearances, and blogging about pictures of herself.
Now in New York to promote her myriad E! reality shows, Kim has the rare opportunity to spend some time with Kanye. The parents to be were spotted on a shopping spree in Soho, on their first reunion since Easter.
Kim sported a tight black dress with a sports coat over it and a pair of wild looking stilettos from Kanye's "Cruel Summer" collab with shoe designer Giuseppe Zanotti.

Los Angeles, March 7: Rapper Kanye West vented his anger on a radio station over MTV's "Hottest Mc's" list they released.
West expressed his thoughts on radio station Hot 97 and complained on air about the MTV list, which listed him on number seven.
"Number seven bothers me. They don't like Givenchy Kanye, they don't like Kanye in a kilt, they don't like Kanye in a relationship," West said.
"They didn't like the Cruel Summer album. They want to diss me," he added.
Big Sean and Drake occupied fifth and sixth position. However, the top four names on "Hottest Mc's" list are yet to be announced.

There’s no doubt he’s had a huge impact on the hip hop world, but Kanye West is crying foul over being ranked #7 on MTV’s Hottest MCs list.
The “Watch The Throne” rapper came in behind artists like Big Sean (#6) and Drake (#5), and he can’t reconcile his standing with the course of his successful career.
Kanye told New York’s Hot 97 radio listeners, "I feel like for them to put me at No. 7, they had to bring up things they didn't like, like they didn't like Cruel Summer album. And I'm, like, 'That's a compilation. It's not all rappers on [it].’”
West also blamed the media for how he’s portrayed. "What happens with these type of things and the people that review it, when I come in and I have the pink polo and the backpack, I'm checking all the boxes of that A Tribe Called Quest era and all that,...

When it comes to his standing in the rap world, Kanye West couldn't help but sound off. The Watch the Throne rapper called into New York's Hot 97 radio station Tuesday night to dispute his No. 7 ranking on MTV's "Hottest MCs" list, coming in behind artists Big Sean at No. 6 and Drake at No. 5. And per MTV, unlike his recent outbursts at his European concerts, West kept his cool on this occasion and attributed his lower position to the fact that his new compilation, Cruel Summer, was greeted with tepid reviews at best. "I feel like for them to put me at No. 7, they had to bring up things they didn't like, like they didn't like Cruel Summer album. And I'm, like,...

Kanye West called into New York's Hot 97 radio station on Tuesday, violating his "don't do no press, but I get the most press, kid" rule to take issue with MTV's Hottest MCs list.
West was ranked No. 7 on the list, falling behind Big Sean (6), Drake (5) and the yet-to-be-announced top four rappers. This year's list is the network's eighth stab at providing a definitive list for rap fans. In what can't fairly be called a "rant" ('Ye remained calm for the duration of the call), West said Lil' Wayne should top the list and explained his issues with the rankings:

I wasn’t at all too stoked about checking out Andrew Moors’ feature length debut Blue Caprice. This was for a few reasons. First of all, I tend to shy away from films which seem to tap into whatever hot button issue Sundance has chosen to make its programming revolve around. It’s not that I don’t think the films have anything to say, in fact, they are probably more relevant than ever. For me, watching movies has always been a method of escapism, and when I see a film that mirrors some of the more disturbing aspects of everyday life, it puts me in a foul mood.
The other reason I didn’t want to check out Blue Caprice was because the last thing the film’s Director had worked on was a short film entitled Cruel Summer, featuring the only musician I can actually say I hate with a passion,...

An artist within Kanye West's G.O.O.D. Music camp has told The Huffington Post that there will be no "Cruel Winter" compilation album.
Malik Yusef, a Grammy-winning songwriter and spoken-word artist who appears on "Cruel Summer," adds that the term is instead being used to describe "a Donda movement of art, including music and fashion." (Donda is West's all-purpose design and innovation firm, named after his late mother.)
The new information comes on the heels of label signee Common's assertion that G.O.O.D. Music's rappers, singers and producers are working on their solo material. "'Cruel Winter' is this frantic pace of getting our collective powers moving," Yusef said. "It's a spiritual thing."
"We all have 2013 offerings and initiatives coming," he added. Yusef has been working on music, Common starred in "Luv" and rumors of a solo West album have been percolating for some time now.

Despite the rumors that had Kanye West preparing to release G.O.O.D. Music's Cruel Winter as a quick-turnaround follow-up to last year's Cruel Summer, rapper Common tells Vulture the second compilation isn't happening. The reason: "Everybody's been doing their solo album," Common said. However, Common's denial of the compilation's existence contradicts claims from some of its other presumed participants. His fellow Cruel Summer alum Big Sean, for one, remains steadfast in his declarations that Cruel Winter is both real and on its way. And Malik Yusef posted a photo of himself and ...

Turns out winter might actually be pretty cruel for fans of Kanye West and his G.O.O.D. Music family of artists. Common says "Cruel Winter," the follow-up to last year's "Cruel Summer" compilation, is nothing but a rumor.
In a video interview with Vibe (available below), Common says he's unsure if Kanye West is planning "Cruel Winter" at all. The "I Used to Love H.E.R." rapper repeated his doubts in an interview with Vulture, sounding even more convinced there was no compilation in the works: "Oh, yeah, nah, nah. Hudson Mohawke is among the buzziest producers in the world, but he's yet to impact beyond the hippest of hip-hop and electronic dance music blogs. That's about to change, thanks to a fresh new contract from Kanye West's G.O.O.D. Music label.
West's reported signing of the Scottish producer to the "Getting Out Our Dreams" family is a savvy move (he's actually signed to Very G.O.O.D. Beats, the production imprint on the label). HudMo, as he's affectionately referred to, is half of Tnght, a duo he founded with equally sought-after beatmaker Lunice. The 26-year-old also worked on "Cruel Summer," helping produce the genre-shifting "Mercy," as well as a standout ballad, "Bliss."
This isn't the first time West has given Tnght a boost: The rapper appeared at the group's Brooklyn, New York concert in November, though he mostly just stood on stage.

Kanye West may have distracted the tabloid world by casually announcing Kim Kardashian's pregnancy at his Sunday night show in Atlantic City, but it appears the rapper was focused on more than just impending fatherhood.
Malik Yusef, a songwriter and artist signed to West's G.O.O.D. Music label, posted a photo Monday morning with a caption that suggested the team worked on "Cruel Winter" after the concert: "after he Blessed the land with some truth,We was up Working on that New!!!!!#cruelwinter #goodmusic #grammyfamily #Chicago."
Yusef also tweeted the Instagram shot of him and 'Ye:
In November, Rapper Big Sean first confirmed rumors that West and friend would release a follow-up to "Cruel Summer," the first G.O.O.D. Music compilation. "Summer" hit stores in September to mixed reviews, though it's worth noting that a number of defenses of the album have since been written.

The Internet-using, Kanye West-listening community was pretty surprised last week when filmmaker Austin Christianson released a cryptic, atmospheric trailer for Cruel Winter less than two months after the release of G.O.O.D. Music's ensemble showcase, Cruel Summer. And, as it turns out, rightfully so. Despite being allegedly involved in almost every other aspect of human life, West's recently launched megacompany, Donda, had no hand in the production of the trailer. According to Fuse, Christianson, whose credits include directing the video for Wiz Khalifa's "Cameras," made the video on his own—despite title cards crediting ...

This one is directed by Austin Christianson, and it might mean something more to those of you who keep close tabs on the fabulous life of Mr Kanye West; or it might not. As MovieLine notes, the footage is accompanied by George H.W. Bush speech about the opportunity to forge a new world order... No dates given for when we can expect Cruel Winter; the trailer says "Coming Soon" at the end; this is after West debuted what I guess was the first in a series of "Cruel" films - Cruel Summer - at the Cannes Film Festival earlier this year. It featured Kid Cudi and Lebanese actress Razane Jammal, to a crowd of about 200. Like the first film,...

Rapper reveals enigmatic YouTube trailer for forthcoming film, featuring bare branches, spectral strings and George H W Bush
Reading on mobile? Watch here
Kanye West seems to be following his Cruel Summer mixtape with a Cruel Winter movie. The secretive project was revealed via an enigmatic YouTube trailer, promising a forthcoming short film.
According to the trailer, the film was directed by Austin Christianson, in association with West's production company, Donda. Christianson's previous work includes videos for Burberry and other fashion labels.
The trailer suggests Cruel Winter is a cross between a David Attenborough documentary and a Godspeed You! Black Emperor video: Christianson shows bare trees and trembling branches, with ghostly strings and a speech by George H W Bush. There's no release date or cast list, just "Coming Soon."
If the past is any indication, Christianson's Cruel Winter movie will precede a Cruel Winter album. That's what happened last season: before West's label,...

Kanye West has unveiled a trailer for his new album. The rapper is expected to release Cruel Winter as his second Good Music compilation in early 2013. The accompanying trailer sees bare trees in a cold countryside as a voiceover talks about an impending new world order. Cruel Winter will serve as the sequel to West's recent collection Cruel Summer, which was released back in September. The set - (more)...

The word on Cruel Winter, the album, is still a little vague — Q-Tip insists it's happening, Pusha doesn't seem too involved — but here now is confirmation that Kanye at least made a sequel to Cruel Summer, the film. (That's the one he debuted at Cannes, with Kid Cudi as a car thief who falls into a parallel universe and falls in love with a blind Arabian princess. Remember?) There's not a ton of plot in the Cruel Winter trailer, per se, but if you are intrigued by the concept of a Bon Iver video narrated by George Bush Sr., then you are in luck. Donda in action, below.

After giving us a snippet earlier this week, we now have the full version of the new Kanye West song, White Dress. Appearing on RZA’s Man With the Iron Fists soundtrack, in stores October 22nd, the track was produced by Kanye, RZA, Tapez and Boogz.
“Kanye’s a dope lyricist, but what he did on this particular song, it ain’t 16 bars, he’s going like how Ghostface goes,” RZA said. “Like, 40 bars, just goin’. He’s goin’ and he’s killin’ it, yo!”
The soulful sample mixed with the larger than life rapper talking about his new flame, Kim Kardashian, makes for a pretty good track. It’s the first real Kanye music too since Cruel Summer, the G.O.O.D. Music compilation released earlier this year.
It’s always nice to hear from Kanye West and rarely, if ever, does he disappoint. I’m a big...

John Legend's upcoming tour has been canceled, the singer announced on his website.
The reason for the postponement has to do with Legend's upcoming album, Love in the Future, which isn't finished just yet. Wrote Legend on his website:
I planned to release the album this fall and go on tour to perform new songs from the album. We announced the dates before we'd finished the album because we were sure we'd finish the album in time. But, unfortunately, while the creative process has been exciting and I'm pretty certain we're going to deliver the best album of my career so far, the timing hasn't adhered to the schedule I originally envisioned. In other words, we're not done with the album. And my team and I have made the agonizing decision to put off the tour until 2013 when we know we will have the new music done and will...

Maybe Kanye West is trying to create buzz for a new project, like that rumored Cruel Winter album. Maybe he wanted to cede the virtual spotlight to Kim Kardashian, who could really use more attention. Maybe he just realized he could never top “I specifically ordered persian rugs with cherub imagery!!! What do I have to do to get a simple persian rug with cherub imagery uuuuugh.”
Whatever the reason, West has officially deleted every single one of his brilliant, ridiculous tweets — minus an ominous message that simply reads “Be Back Soon.”
It’s not right, but it’s okay.

The G.O.O.D. Music crew will follow the seasons and release a Cruel Winter follow up to their compilation -- at least if Q-Tip is to be believed.
The former member of A Tribe Called Quest decided to "let the cat out of the bag" while speaking with MTV News at the Bet Hip Awards on Saturday.
"If there's a Cruel Summer then there's got to be a Cruel Winter right?" Q-Tip told MTV News after attempting to explain his absence on Cruel Summer and calling fellow G.O.O.D. Music member Pusha T over for a little guidance.
"Can I say something? Am I going to get into trouble?" he asked Pusha T, though it was obviously a menial concern seeing that he shared the news anyways.

Add Lil Wayne to the list of rappers unimpressed with Mitt Romney's personal finance decisions. Weezy took a quick shot at the Gop presidential hopeful on "Cashed Out," a song off the rapper's maligned mixtape, Dedication 4.
"Cashed Out" is a cover of "Cashing Out," by a track by southern rapper Ca$h Out. If that seems redundant, it is -- Wayne's Dedication mixtape series features the Young Money Cash Monday Billionaires label boss doing his best to outdo other performers on their own beats. (Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't.)
Wayne's version starts with the following intro (voiced by someone other than Wayne: "As another election year upon us. This last four years has been good to me. A couple of dollars in a couple different bank acccounts. Some here, some off shore. N---a call me Mitch Romney!"
It's unlikely that this person doesn't know that Romney's first name is actually Mitt.

With the Pusha T–No Malice duo Clipse on a seemingly endless sabbatical, Pusha has reincarnated himself as a solo dynamo — and he is arguably the breakout lyricist of Kanye West's G.O.O.D. This week, Kanye West released the long awaited G.O.O.D. Music compilation album Cruel Summer. While it hasn't received raving reviews thus far, we are going to keep it positive and celebrate one of our favorite things about Mr. West: his proclivity toward namedropping art figures and movements.
Whether comparing his stubbornness to Vincent Van Gogh's or tweeting inspirational Picasso quotes, West always seems to have art on the brain. The rap giant's soft spot for beauty and value makes his art fetish understandable -- yet his classical tastes with lewd undertones never cease to surprise us.
Kanye is far from the only hip hop artist to reference artists in his lyrics: Rick Ross has a soft spot for Basquiat, Swizz Beats salutes Keith Haring and Drake shows Warhol some love here.
