Promising start from a young filmmaker
zubeyircelen25 June 2012
Warning: Spoilers
The story takes place in an orphan boarding school which are unfortunately socially deserted here in Turkey. The innocence of the boys in the corridor tells the untold tale of the children. They run, laugh and play but their desire for love is obvious. They did not get any parent attention. They are orphans for love too. Newcomer kid is the right example of this situation. His hunger for love comes and takes him every night to the dark corridors to satisfy this hunger in whatever way possible.

The film captures the very essence of this love hunger. The setting, the lights are preparing us for the final. The simplicity of the scene can not be thrown away from minds easily. Also you can see from the janitor (Osman Efendi) and the principle that the consequences are tough but fair. All needed is a little love.

Editing work prepares us both in the opening scene and the final scene to be dazzled by the simplicity of the matter.

Music and sound is also very simplistic and successful.

Since this short film took all hearts in Europe including Cannes jury, we could be expect more from Koray Sevindi in the future.

Simple and beautiful

Making a short movie seems to be, given my ignorance on the matter, such a difficult exercise. Yet Koray Sevindi's strike is perfect. Within in 8 minutes he manages to touch your heart with minimalistic dialog, music and staging.

Nothing is unnecessary, the power of the image completely takes over the viewer.

As a father of 3 it also reminded me that in the end, despite all the daily chaos and stress they can create, children don't ask much of you.

Just your love.

For that I thank you mister Sevindi.
