As a Welshman this Episode meant a lot

To caveat this, I'm not a Wrexham fan but I'm loving this documentary series. To my great surprise, Rob and Ryan are clearly invested in this club and Wales. They understand that culture is important but more importantly, that Welsh culture is different to that of England. I greatly appreciated their efforts to help the audience understand in greater context the club and the people who support it. I found it incredibly moving.

Wales is a somewhat insular county. We haven't forged ourself onto the world map like our cousins Ireland and Scotland. We are smaller and self deprecating. It is quiet incredible to witness an American and a Canadian with no prior attachment to Wales put this beautiful country country on the map with such pride. Thanks lads.

Remember the audience

The lower rating doesn't surprise me, and I suspect this is mainly from people already familiar with football and familiar with Wales, or those who just want a pure football documentary. This episode is aimed more at the US audience, or those more familiar with US TV tropes.

They want to grow the club, and to do this they need to appeal to a broader audience. The Late Night and Sportscenter setups will resonate with the section of the audience who came to the series on the back of the Hollywood star power, rather than existing club support.

A very entertaining standalone episode that isn't essential to all viewers, but rewards those who do watch it.

Ignore the Low Rating, This Was Great!

Ignore the low rating. This is a funny episode that deserves more than its current 6.6. I've a feeling the low rating comes from those who are annoyed it doesn't solely focus on the Wrexham team and townsfolk.

Some of the bits here are hilarious and give the fans of both actors a taste of what a comedy show or film with the two of them would be like. I hope we see that one day, but I digress.

In this episode there's an extremely brief history of Wales; some mild poking fun at the Wrexham team, the Welsh language, and especially at the two team co-owners themselves; and ending with the Welsh National Anthem sung by the beautiful and talented Charlotte Church.

Anyone expecting Welcome to Wrexham to be a completely serious documentary series from start to finish obviously doesn't know Rob and Ryan's humor. Perhaps some viewers were disappointed that this is a full episode with the two actors throughout. Yes, Wrexham is the main focus of the series overall but did some of you really expect Rob and Ryan to take a backseat to the town and team the entire time? If so, that's on you and your own misguided expectations. I'm sure there are many of us who wanted to see the team, the town, and the actors!

Anyway, this episode had me in stitches and, if you're into Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney's sense of humor at all, you'll likely love it as much as I did. Great show!
