A solid end to the second series.

Rajid wakes up in a hospital bed to learn the fate of his men, Kasia is given the chance to leave England for Poland, and jumps at the opportunity, leaving Jan and Harry feeling confused and upset.

It's a good end to the first series, if I'm honest I'd have to say I thought that most of the main content came in the previous episode, but it was good, and pretty much every character needs a resolution .

There were a couple of gaps, such as Henriette ending up in a camp, I may be wrong but I don't think we got to see how or why, and Rajid's story was a little unexplained.

We didn't see Marga in the previous episode, but here she features quite heavily, her story is really chilling, .....like brother, like sister I guess, no wonder the parents perpetually have a confused look on their faces.

I get thr impression that they've left the door open for a third series, there's definitely the scope, and so many ways they could develop the story, but I don't see it coming back, I bet this cost a small fortune to produce. I hope I'm proven wrong.

Lesley Manville and Mark Bonnar once again delivered. Ahad Raza Mir has been an absolute scene stealer, he's an impressive actor.

It had a somewhat greater feeling of melodrama at times, but it was powerfully acted and definitely interesting.

7/10.

Writer Peter Bowker would be disappointed if the show wis not renewed. He does not tie up the series.

It means characters come and go. Harry Chase under pressure, even losing the respect of his men is given an ultimatum. Opting a temporary respite he returns home only to find Kasia has agreed to a mission in Poland.

His mother Robina is pleased to see him but not Lois who has also returned and wants her child back.

Henriette has been picked up by the Nazis with false papers. She ends up in a prison camp where she is tortured. Hearing she might be shipped to a German camp where as a Jew she will not come out alive. Henriette needs to plan an escape.

Rajib is seriously injured and finds all but one of his men in the unit are dead. His unit never had any chance of survival, they were used by the British as fodder. Rajib might have been fighting against the Germans but after the war British imperialism will be the enemy.

As for Marga, she runs away from the baby making camp and returns home. Only her bewildered parents are at a loss with their offsprings. Maybe Marga could not hack it at the camp but knew she could at least make her parents and their neighbours life a misery. Be a pest in a small pond.

World on Fire wanted to be expansive but might have suffered with too many stories and what looked like budget cuts. The Tobruk/desert scenes did look cheap.

The Marga scenes were interesting as well as how the British Indian soldiers were treated. Unfortunately Harry Chase is a wet lettuce and I think the show suffers from it.
