No a good role model
melicramos8 August 2018
I feel like the show glorifies primadonnas and doesnt really have show good values. Not a good show for my daughter, most of the time Nancy is throwing fits for not being center of attention or because people are not doing what she is interested in doing.....????

Meh..

If you're a fan and/or have nostalgia for the original books, then you'll probably like this show. But this show isn't my cup of tea.

The CGI animation is quite well-done, but I feel that the plots are weak. One episode has Nancy forcing her friends Rhonda, Wanda, and Lionel to be fancy for no reason. Another episode has her being mean to her little sister and kicking her out of the playhouse to please local mean girl Grace. It was somewhat established early on that Nancy didn't like Grace, so why would she care what Grace thinks?

Speaking of which, I don't really care for the characters. Nancy can be quite unlikable at times and her obsession with fanciness gets old after the theme song, Bree is bland, Rhonda and Wanda are Lynn Loud x2, and Lionel's the token boy. Grace, somehow, is the best character in the show despite her being the mean girl. Reason being is she has the most personality!

At least the show has some educational value. After every 'fancy' word that Nancy says, she will quickly explain to the viewers at home what the word means. And this show might teach some good lessons to young children, like to not be bossy to your friends. But overall the show is just right down the middle for me.

Warning: Spoilers
I have watched a few Fancy Nancy shows with my grandchildren. Kind of lame. I was very surprised when my wife showed me "Fancy Nancy Poet Extraordinaire" What a great introduction to poetry! I suspect the other books are great too.

Not a good example for kids.

Warning: Spoilers
Nancy comes across as a narcissist obsessed with being fancy. If it isn't fancy it isn't good enough for her, and if she isnt the center of attention, she will make herself the center of attention. She acts completely overdramatic, throws fits, bosses her friends around and generally acts like an entitled brat until the last two minutes of the episode where she "learns a lesson" that never seems to stick.

Horrible Role Model
findmeagan5 May 2019
This show looks cute. But I was fooled. It is definitely not teaching children anything other than it's okay to be a brat when they don't get there way or things are going wrong. Truly disappointed and will never be on in my house again.

LOVE this show!
jacenava13 August 2018
Those who give this show a bad rating obviously didn't stick around for the whole episode. Nancy ALWAYS learns her lesson, whether she was mean to Jojo or didn't include someone or realizes her dog is perfect even if he's not as fancy as Miss Divine's dog. There's such a thing called a SET UP in a story so that there's a PAY OFF at the end. GOOD shows use this so they don't end up like Mickey Mouse Clubhouse where characters can't even make a mistake for fear of it being seen by people as a "bad example to our children." News flash - kids won't ever be perfect, so let's give them a RELATABLE main character instead of a flat, lifeless one.

Anywho - Nancy is one of those rare shows that to me hearkens back to the day when a moral wasnt needed in a story to make it accessible to children (i.e. Ducktails, Talespin, gummi bears, etc...) Its simple, sweet, well-written, witty, and true to the storybooks while charting its own path. It's a show I never hesitate to let my girls watch whenever they want. The music too is quality for a 2018 disney channel show. It's a breath of fresh air and a show I enjoy watching along with my kids.

She's a brat.

I know Fancy Nancy learns her lesson at the END of the show, but during most of the show, she grumbles, bosses people around, throws fits and is all around a brat.

Fun And Fancy
blytheandferb-9117219 March 2020
The best way to describe this show is how it brings out your inner fancy. Nancy is a well rounded character . She can be selfish and vain at times, but she's also loyal and compassionate, always doing what she can to help others. The music is top notch and the writing is solid. Season 2 really ramps it up.

Cute show with good lessons
cenmail4 May 2019
My 2yo really likes this show. Nancy is not a spoiled brat, she's a sweet little girl with a strong personality that makes mistakes and learns from them. She is a girlie girl (which is fun for many), but the show balances out her character with her sisters and friends who are more like your average, rough-and-tumble kids. The music in the show is great, and there are a lot of funny moments.

Lessons learned through being a brat...
pjhk-386506 April 2019
If you want your child to be a spoiled, selfish brat then by all means let them watch Fancy Nancy. I've learned now that whenever the show comes on I tell my daughter to act like the other children on the show, like Bree, as they set good examples. Further, I tell her Nancy is the way children should not act. It's difficult to instill that when Nancy is the main character on the show but we still try.

Yikes!
littlezoologist16 November 2020
This show is disturbing! The girl named Nancy, who is 8 or 9 years old, is very interested in fashion and always wears "fancy" clothes. She uses "fancy" French words and explains the viewer the word's meaning. She is sassy and insists when her parents doesn't let her to buy something. She acts like she is superior. She is also kinda selfish. Howewer, she understands her mistake and apologises at the end of the episode.

Underrated.
deimoss-177359 June 2020
I don't understand why this show got all those bad reviews. All characters have a great personality, the animation is cute, it features a lot of good lessons which could be really helpful for children at that age, the French/fancy words featured in the show help kids to amplify their vocabulary, it teaches good manners, and last but not least, it encourages kids to use their imagination, to be creative and to pursue their dreams. Definitely, it is worth to watch.

The show will make you feel like you're watching real life kids who make mistakes like all of us. Also, it'll teach your kids how to confront some daily situations represented in the show.

Nancy acts like a brat
Animal-Lover3454 June 2020
Recently, I watched a little bit of this show with my little sister, and I found out that Nancy is a big brat. She always wants to be the center of attention, and if she isn't, she throws tantrums and acts really bratty. Not a good example for younger kids. Most of the show is just Nancy complaining, whining, and acting bratty, until she "learns her lesson" two minutes until the end. Her lessons never seem to stick, and by the next episode, she seems to have completely forgotten about the last episode's lesson.

In one episode, Nancy gets mad at her best friend, Bree, for having other friends. In my opinion, Nancy acts like a big brat there, because it is okay for friends to have other friends. Nancy seems to act brattier in the TV series than in the book. I read some of the books when I was little, and I don't remember Nancy acting like a brat. All in all, if you want your children to act like spoiled, selfish brats, then go ahead and let them watch this show.

Sad to see Fancy Nancy go
oldsoul669 June 2021
One reviewer said Nancy was not a good role model. I disagree. When Nancy gets upset because things don't turn out the way she expects or wants, a parent, grandparent, neighbor, or friend is quick to point out her "bad" behavior. Nancy becomes remorseful and apologizes for her actions, most importantly, she learns from her mistakes. That is what my three year old granddaughter gets from the show. We all make mistakes, the important thing is to learn and grow from them. This show is the only current cartoon I personally can stomach to watch. I think Disney is making a colossal (that's fancy for really big) mistake by canceling Fancy Nancy.

Finally a kids show without magic
cramirez-8952315 August 2018
Every kids show is filled with magic, spells, potions, fairies, witches, sorcery, etc shall I go on. This show is simple every day life but managed to keep all of our attention (even I watch it sometimes with them). I appreciate that there's always a lesson for them to learn. At the end of each show I ask my daughter what she learned from that episode. It creates good conversation for us about every day life issues. Love it. Thank you Disney for finally creating a show without magic and sorcery.

Nope
samanthabpayne22 March 2022
Warning: Spoilers
If you'd like to have your kid watch a bratty, pretentious Francophile stomping around throwing a fit every time somebody in the world has the unmitigated gall to act in a way that didn't meet her unreasonable expectations, here's your show. I just sat through an episode in which Nancy's dad & grandpa (I think) built her a beautiful playhouse. Did she thank them? Nope. She wanted to know why it didn't look the way she envisioned. Really Nancy? And the dad? He just laughed it off. Are you kidding me? That poor mom has been wearing the same red flannel shirt this entire time, probably just so they could save up the money for the extensive array of building materials needed for this very impressive playhouse, not to mention the labor and time that went into this massive structure....and not even a simple thank you from this sniveling, materialistic snob. If I were those cartoon parents, I would have removed every cartoon plank and every cartoon nail and set the entire lumber heap out on the cartoon road and posted it on cartoon Craigslist "free scrap wood curbside pickup" and perhaps as Nancy watched the pieces of her playhouse roll away in someone else's pickup truck, perhaps then, she might realize that she should have said "Thank you" Until that kind of storyline is applied, this show will not be on in our house. Bye Nance.

Very Obnoxious -.-
a34trgv111 March 2023
Going into Fancy Nancy, I figured this would be a cute show for my niece to enjoy. However, I felt like the biggest fool watching this show because of how obnoxious it was in its execution. From the terrible writing to the bratty main character, this show doesn't make a very convincing case to live a privileged lifestyle.

Developed by Anne Smith and Krista Tucker, this show is adapted from the children's book of the same name written by Joy O'Connor and illustrated by Robin Preiss Glasser. The show follows a young girl named Nancy and how she lives her life in the fanciest way possible. Right off the bat we have a first problem with the show: it's written in a way that portrays it's audience like underprivileged pesents. It goes on and on how important being fancy is and why it's the best way to live while also talking down to the audience as if they're under 3 or otherwise just plain stupid. Each episode has a basic plot done a thousand times and ends exactly the way you expect it too. Nancy tries to teach her friends how to be fancy, they don't like it. Nancy gives her sister, JoJo, an imaginary friend, JoJo spends more time with that than Nancy. Nancy tries helping her Dad work from home, she ends up making things worse. These tired plots are made worse with superfluous daydream sequences that pad out the runtime and 4th wall breaks that explain phrases young kids would be smart enough to know on their own. We now the French word for fantastic is the alsame as the English word but with a "que" at the end, we know "immediately" means right now, we know disaster means "very bad." Constantly explaining what these easy to understand words makes you come across as obnoxious and a passive aggressive brat who thinks very little of your audience. The biggest sin this show commits, though, is not being remotely funny with all the attempts at jokes being very predictable in set up and lousy in execution. I don't remember reading the books, but if the writing is anything like this, I'm glad I don't remember.

The characters are mostly dull archetypes that don't leave a lasting impression. The one exception to this is Nancy herself as she is an AWFUL main character! She makes Mimi Mortimor look like Wonder Woman; that's how bad she is. Nancy is an obnoxious, spoiled, and snobbish brat that cares too much about being fancy to be a good kid. She constantly bosses her sister around and cries crocodile tears to her parents when she doesn't get her way. She also breaks the 4th wall to explain simple phrases. Her parents aren't much better as they enable her bratty behavoir and don't see the long-term ramifications of their terrible parenting skills. Hey Doug, Claire! 10 years from now, your daughter is going to be a mean, nasty, and snobbish teenager who puts other girls down for not being as pretty or fancy as her! And you 2 will only have yourselves to blame! JoJo a typical 3 year old who butts in, whines, pouts and makes a mess. Bree is a parrot for Nancy, Lionel is an unfunny class clown, Rhonda and Wanda are blank twins that go along with everything, and Grace is the generic spoiled brat in the show.

The voice acting for these characters is actually really good. Mia Sinclair Jenness sounds very upbeat and lively as Nancy. Dana Heath sounds very lively as Bree and she and Mia have great chemistry together. Spencer Moss did a superb job voicing a 3 year old with JoJo. Alyson Hannigan and Rob Riggle sounded very natural and upbeat as Nancy and JoJo's parents. Ruby Jay did a really good job giving Rhonda and Wanda distinct voices. Malachi Barton sounded very lively as Lionel. Dialogue director Sam Riegel deserves major props for bringing out the best in his actors.

Visually, the animation is really good, which is no surprise considering it's Disney. The character designs take the illustrations from the book and translate the seamlessly into 3D. The characters have big expressive eyes, unique hair styles and appropriate attire. Given that this is a show that involves characters dressing up, the dresses and costumes are all well crafted and look very vibrant and colorful. The character animation has a smooth flow to them with the characters having very natural walk cycles and unique facial expressions. The backgrounds are also very well detailed with the yard and the house looking very well crafted and having a lot of small details that make it feel lived in. For as bad as this show is, it still has some quality animation from Disney.

I've never felt so insulted by a show for small children. Fancy Nancy is an obnoxiously bad show with terrible writing, an awful main character, flat supporting characters and nonexistent humor. Sure the animation and voice acting are good, but that's not nearly enough to give this a good recommendation. If you want a really good show about a girl living a fun lifestyle, watch JoJo's Circus. It's a show about a young clown girl living in the circus. The best part is, JoJo doesn't talk down to it's audiences like Fancy Nancy -.-

An Annoying Show
e_daneva13 December 2023
I don't like Fancy Nancy. I personally think that Nancy is really annoying, even if she learns her lesson at the end. When my sister watches this show, ( she doesn't anymore!! ), I don't want to watch it. It's not like I don't love my sister, I LOVE her, it's just that Nancy is pretty annoying to be. Oh La La. This show is just ridiculous and shouldn't have been made. I'm glad this show has a average rating under 6, but can't this show have lower ratings. Like, thus shows deserves around the raring of Cailou ( around 3.7 ). This is probably my least favorite little kid show, and my favorite little kids show, that obviously goes to Bluey.

Cute and good at teaching vocabulary
jesamazinghawley12 August 2018
My 4 yr old son usually doesn't like princesses or girl oriented shows. He's obsessed with cars, superheroes, and space. But he LOVES this cute show because of "fancy" vocabulary. She also teaches a lot of French words. The main character is fancy and self involved, but always learns lessons. She is surrounded by people who are not like her and are still respected and given dignity. There is tons of diversity of characters and it's a charming show. Also- just for record- the vocabulary is NOT wrong, it's ALL correct. It's slightly simplified for children, but still correct. Give the show more than one episode before you decide it's bad and write a nasty review.

My 3 & 5 year old daughters LOVE Fancy Nancy
becca_jean1629 December 2018
Yes, Nancy is a bit self-centered but what young child isn't? Each episode teaches how to deal with conflict and emotions that all children experience. I love that it's super relatable and not full of magic and talking animals. My daughter is in French immersion, and loves the French words and phrases that Nancy uses. I hope this show stays on air for a long time.
