There were a lot of book announcements at the "Star Wars Celebration" panel for "The High Republic" today, including new titles by Claudia Gray, Alyssa Wong, and more. Streaming the whole panel on the "Star Wars" livestream, it seemed as though there would be nothing huge announced, and when host Krystina Arielle ended the panel 15 minutes early, everyone was a little confused.
But that's when she brought out Leslye Headland, the showrunner for "The Acolyte." That show is set between the eras of "The High Republic" and the fall of the Jedi era that begins with "The Phantom Menace," so crossovers between what's going on with the publishing initiative would likely have at least some bearing on the live-action project. Headland praised the assembled authors on the stage, saying:
"When I went in to pitch 'The Acolyte,' because it was a story of mine, and a story of...

The future is bright for the Star Wars universe. Free from the Skywalker Saga films, the franchise can now forge a new path, with characters, storylines, and settings that don’t have to tie into Luke and his family drama. In fact, Disney seems to have already planted the seeds for a new type of Star Wars storytelling experience: era-specific shared universes on Disney+ that emulate the interconnectedness of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but inside smaller, more self-contained bubbles.
We saw this start to happen in The Mandalorian season 2, which not only introduced beloved animated characters Ahsoka Tano and Bo-Katan Kryze to live-action but also ended with a teaser for the next Star Wars series, The Book of Boba Fett, which arrives in December. The Book of Boba Fett doesn’t just star the infamous bounty hunter; it’s also a showcase for Ming-Na Wen’s Fennec Shand, an assassin...

Obi-Wan Kenobi is going to need a bigger ship: Moses Ingram, Joel Edgerton, Bonnie Piesse, Kumail Nanjiani, Rupert Friend, O’Shea Jackson Jr., Sung Kang, Simone Kessell and Benny Safdie have all joined Ewan McGregor, Hayden Christensen and Indira Varma in the cast for upcoming Disney+ event series “Obi-Wan Kenobi.”
Edgerton and Piesse will reprise their roles as Owen and Beru Lars from the previous films.
The story for “Obi-Wan Kenobi” begins 10 years after the dramatic events of 2005’s “Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith” where Jedi master Kenobi (McGregor) faced his greatest defeat, the downfall and corruption of his best friend and Jedi apprentice, Anakin Skywalker, who turned into evil Sith Lord Darth Vader (Christensen).
If that spoiled anything for you, catch up already — it’s 2021.
“Obi-Wan Kenobi,” which will begin production in April, marks the returns of McGregor and Christensen to their respective iconic “Star Wars” roles.

The recent Disney Investor Day was more like a San Diego Comic-Con panel than a sales pitch designed to keep people funnelling their money directly into the Mouse House coffers, with an absolute mountain of projects announced from the biggest brands at the company’s disposal including the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Star Wars and Pixar, along with a huge number of live-action and animated efforts coming from Walt Disney Studios.
Despite some major Star Wars reveals, though, including Patty Jenkins’ Rogue Squadron and confirmation of Ahsoka, Rangers of the New Republic and Acolyte, not to mention Hayden Christensen’s return as Anakin Skywalker in Obi-Wan Kenobi, the McU still managed to blow a galaxy far, far away out of the water when it came to both the scale and sheer volume of new content in the works.
