- A married man is revealed to have had an affair and another character is accused of having molested children in the past. These revelations as well as others like them are discussed through personal and dramatic conversations by characters in several episodes of the show.
- Reoccurring themes of sex, cheating, pedophilia, and incest.
- There is talk of men drugging women for sex.

- After kissing, it is implied that a man and women slept with each other. As he gets out of bed his back end (including his buttocks) is seen. In the same scene there is an anal sex joke as a woman tells a man to use the back exit, to which the man replies you are a dirty girl.

- Series 3 revolves around a rape case.
- A character throws up at the beginning of episode 8 of season one.
- A character throws up on s3 ep4 about eight minutes in.
- The very beginning shows a boy standing very near a cliff with blood dripping from his fingers.
- A body of a boy is found on a beach. This is shown in the background and we don't see a closeup of the body in these scene.
- Later we see the body of the boy in a morgue. This scene lasts for about a minute but focuses on the fathers distress.
- A character mentions a wish to chop the murderers balls off.
- There is a brutal scene of violence. Blunt force trauma and blood is shown.
Profanity

- In season 1, mild swear words such as "arsehole" and "bastard" are scattered throughout each episode. "Shit" is heard at least once (often a couple to a few times) in every episode. "Fuck" is heard in Episodes 5, 6, and 8 of season 1, mostly during intense conversations.
- In season 2, mild profanities are scattered in every episode. "Fuck" is used at least once in every episode.

- A hotel receptionist is drinking alcohol whilst listing to the news report of the death.
- A news-reporter mentions a person returning 'good and sober'.

Frightening & Intense Scenes

- Broadchurch is not a very violent show. Most of the shows frightening and intense scenes are from dramatic, often very sad, personal, and sometimes angry conversations and confrontations.
- The main focus of the show revolves around detectives trying to solve the murder of an 11-year-old boy. The murder is eventually shown.
- Many of the characters suffer from great mental anguish.
- We see a boy standing on the edge of a cliff breathing heavily and looking down with blood dripping from his fingers.
- View of a dead body.
- Many instances of family distress.
- A raging father, and other men threaten other characters.
- A woman threatens another woman that she can have someone rape her
- A mother tells a priest and her husband that she'll be willing to have men rape her to get her son back
- An animal is threatened.
- One character briefly begins to attack another by kicking and shouting at them.
- The whole show revolves around child murder and can be emotionally and thematically intense. Scenes in which people are killed are especially disturbing.

- A poster of a woman rear is focused onscreen for a second and other few out of focus posters in the background s3e2.
- It is found out that a man served time in prison for having sex with a 15 year old girl. He says that later he married her when she was 17 and he was 40.
- A woman says her husband used to regularly rape their daughter and then he killed her.
- It is discovered that a married adult man had meet ups with an 11 year old boy to hug. He says he was in love with the boy.
- A married couple have a sexual and violent relationship. At one point the husband finds out the wife had an abortion and he beats her up.
- At the end of the show, a married man is shown naked from behind humping a 19 year old girl on the floor.

- Cocaine is found in the daughters room and later seen to belong to her boyfriend.
Frightening & Intense Scenes
- A character is brutally killed by blunt force trauma and blood is shown.
