A week after casting David Walton in About a Boy, NBC has added Minnie Driver as the pilot's female lead. She'll take the role Toni Collette played opposite Hugh Grant in the 2002 film. Jason Katims (Friday Night Lights, Parenthood) is writing and producing the Nick Hornby adaptation, with Jon Favreau (Iron Man, Elf) set to direct. Driver starred in last year's NBC pilot Lady Friends, which never got a pickup.

Minnie Driver is set as the female lead opposite David Walton in About A Boy, NBC‘s single-camera pilot based on the Nick Hornby book and the 2002 movie. Written by from Friday Night Lights and Parenthood executive producer Jason Katims, and directed by Revolution’s Jon Favreau, About A Boy follows the relationship between Will (Walton), a bachelor man-child who is going through a revolving door of women, and the young boy who moves in next door with his kooky single mother, Fiona (Driver). The role was played by Toni Collette in the movie. This marks the second NBC comedy pilot for Driver, repped by CAA and Untitled, who starred in Lady Friends last year. Michelle Lee serves as producer on About A Boy, from Katims’ True Jack Prods, Universal TV, Working Title and Tribeca Prods.

Kari Lizer is back at CBS. Two years after the cancellation of her CBS comedy The New Adventures Of Old Christine, the network has given a put pilot commitment to a new multi-camera comedy project from the writer-producer. It marks a departure for Lizer as it is her first show that doesn’t have a female lead. The untitled sitcom centers on a guy who finally meets the woman of his dreams but she happens to be his cousin’s fiancée. Warner Bros. TV, where Lizer is based, is producing with her Kari’s Logo Here banner. For the two development cycles after the May 2010 cancellation of Old Christine, which came down to the wire and didn’t allow Lizer to give the five-year comedy a proper ending, she opted to take her projects elsewhere. She pitched CBS, which had been courting her for while, earlier this week. In a great meeting,...

This isn't just time to open a bottle of wine. It's time to break out Big Carl and call all your neighbors over for an impromptu party.
"Cougar Town" has been picked up by TBS, where the comedy's fourth season will air in early 2013. According to TV reporter Josef Adalian, the next season of the show, which stars Courteney Cox as the ringleader of a group of wine-loving friends and neighbors, will consist of 15 episodes.
The network has also picked up the rerun rights to the 61 episodes in the show's first three seasons. In other words, much wine will be drunk on TBS starting early next year. ABC's loss of the lovable Crew (which also includes Busy Philipps, Ian Gomez, Dan Byrd, Brian Van Holt and Christa Miller) is TBS' gain.

You won't find a Hollywood feud between Rachel Dratch and Tina Fey. The two "Saturday Night Live" alumnas starred in NBC's "30 Rock" ... that is, an unaired pilot version.
After the original pilot, Dratch, who played Jenna DeCarlo, Liz Lemon's (Fey) best friend and star of the fictional sketch comedy show "The Girlie Show," the role of Jenna was recast. Jane Krakowski landed the role and the character became Jenna Maroney.
"When I was let go, I didn't think it was a big deal," Dratch told the New York Post. "The direction of the character had changed and pilots are recast all the time. I thought it would be a nonstory, but suddenly it blew up."
Dratch went on to play multiple parts on "30 Rock," including that of a cat wrangler In the aired pilot.
