"Strictly pays tribute to 100 years of the BBC by having the contestants dance to the theme tunes of some classic shows".
On paper, not a bad idea, and one I was interested to see brought to life.
And then it started...
It became very clear that the novelty was not going to be long-standing, because part of the joy of 'Strictly' is the live singers, and while the theme tune to Blue Peter is great, there's not a lot of words. Or any words. And that across the whole night became a bit samey.
It was a nice idea, it was executed as well as it could be, but I do wonder whether this was a theme dumped upon the show rather than being one that actually suited it.
It made the 'Around the World' theme from many years ago look like a masterpiece, and unlike that theme which gave us the wonderful Caroline Flack and Pasha routine, didn't offer up anything half as memorable.
