You have to take into account that this is amateur filmmaking, having said that it is still not very good. I'll start with the positive, the music was good and the opening title animation was good. The acting was also mostly good enough. Onto the issues, technical first. The camera shakes, the colours inconsistent, the audio is bad, the editing has mistakes. It feels like it was rushed with little care and attention throughout all technical aspects. The dialogue is a special level of travesty to the ears, some sounds like it was dubbed from inside a toilet, other times it sounds like they had ingested the microphones. The whole look of the film is broken, having a BlackMagic and a gimbal doesn't make you a cinematographer, hopefully they use this as a good learning experience. The fight scenes were really badly choreographed and shot. Now onto the creative. I hated the fade to black between each scene, it was so jarring to the experience. The dreams/flashbacks bordered on egosploitation and very stereotypical but at least they were colourful. The forest-only setting got boring quickly. Except the chalk quarry and open area from deforestation which confused me. The editing follows who is speaking and misses all the reactions that show how people think about what is being said. I don't get the title, surely it should be Legend of Greenwood. The Greenwood implies there are many places called Greenwood and this is the most famous one. But if it's a green wood then you'd need Legend of The Green Wood. Either way it makes no sense. Now production issue. The dead body is obviously not dead. The costumes are pristine with perfect stitching, the props look unused, the hair well groomed all of which doesn't match the time period. When Robin drinks from the water he doesn't spill a drop or get any of his beard, it was definitely mimed. Little John's weapon looks like it was cut with an electric saw. A couple of the trails were obviously made by modern vehicles. Finally the story. The characters are boring and humourless. The story is hard to follow, not because it is complicated but because the character decisions make no sense. So many inexplicable character decisions and story moments. It's a slow story, it feels like the first act and not a whole film. Basically Robin is trying to go home from the crusades and whilst we are told the backstory of how the merry men got together. Little John's introduction caught my attention momentarily until it made no sense. The ending is a new level of nonsensical rubbish, these guys want Robin for gold reward, they eventually catch up with him, kill someone that helped Robin earlier then run off without Robin and the gold. Stuff happens after that which I won't spoil. Overall, it's not entertaining, I suspect it's a student film from people who are not studying film.
