Creation of 'Sea of Love' (2006)

*** (out of 4)

When Universal originally announced that SEA OF LOVE was getting a "Special Edition" I think many were eventually disappointed that this featurette contained very little. What we get is producer Martin Bregman and director Harold Becker talking about the production of the film. Sadly this thing lasts less than 14-minutes and none of the cast members are interviewed. With such a great film one really wishes that they had made this feauturette a tad bit deeper but what's here isn't too bad. Bregman starts off talking about how Pacino brought him this screenplay and that they were both very excited about it. Becker talks about how he got involved in the project and discusses how he wanted NYC to become one of the characters. From here both men discuss the production of the movie, the casting of the actors and their thoughts on the final product. Even though there are many short-comings here, the end result is pretty entertaining as you at least get a good idea of what the men were trying to do with the film. One of the highlights has Becker talking about a goof that happened during the production but it's still in the film because Pacino picked up on it and just kept acting through it. I'm sure everyone who has seen the film will remember it but it was just funny hearing that this "goof" wasn't meant to actually happen.
