Disappointing, A First For The Season
jfilu21 November 2022
This episode was not good in the least , and I've been seeing that this season was pretty good and at the most these episodes were just okay.

But this is the first one I'd put on the level of an episode from the last 2 seasons. The plot is the biggest offender though, both plots feel recycled from episodes before.

The Stewie plot is decently similar to the Season 16 episode The D in Apartment 23 though not as good and there's nothing long term here, but Peter's plot is literally just the season 2 episode 'He's Too Sexy For His Fat' almost identical ideas.

Peter wants to help out Chris Peter gets the fat sucked out of him Peter neglects his prior goal of helping Chris Peter loses his fat and in the end apologizes to his son.

At this point I feel like there aren't that many ideas left, shocking considering this is the 400th episode and for these milestones there's usually a really big or decently grandiose episode, something unique at least. Though no, this just feels like another random episode.

Another thing is the episode isn't funny, so far throughout season 21 I've laughed at least a couple of times. This time however I only laughed one time at the end.

I feel like the last 2 episodes or the first and second episodes of the season could've made for better 400th episodes.

Get Stewie

Warning: Spoilers
I have been surprised by how many episodes of Family Guy this season have actually been decent and made me laugh. Not exactly a great one tonight, but a lot of good lines peppered throughout.

The show can never go wrong when they have Brian exhibit legitimate dog behavior so the bit with Stewie opening the can to get him in the car was great.

The Peter storyline was not only weird, and not only a bad recreation of when he wanted to join The Beautiful People Club, it just was not funny. Everything about that was weird and the payoff only left me scratching my head by the time the "kite" got electrocuted.

Unusual, informative, Weird, yet Interesting
checkina-6457121 November 2022
An interesting yet great episode. The main plot with Stewie learning about the dangerous side of Stan culture and celebrity influencing was completely informative. The parasocial relationships between fans and idols are toxic to the point of ruining people's livelihoods and other things. The subplot with Peter getting excess skin was weird yet it made me laugh and he followed through with helping Chris with his science project. Some parts of the episode were a bit underwhelming, but it was watchable throughout the entire plots. I say 9.4/10 in my opinion. This season is a big turnaround for the show's comeback.

Horrible episode, and one of the worst in the show's history
lmoriarty-1742021 November 2022
After seemingly riding a streak of good episodes, the Family Guy writers have smacked back down to reality with quite a stinker. This episode was boring, pointless filler that had no direction or sensibility to what it was commentating on.

The main plot with Stewie just goes to show how much the writers devolved his role in the show. His plots and motives have become as mundane and meaningless as ever and have no stakes or captivating interest that can drive viewers in. They have simply milked his character dry.

The additional plots, particularly the one with Chris, also fill like pointless fluff to fill this slog of an episode.

As a whole, this episode is the culmination of how far these writers have fallen. They are evidently out of ideas, and I hope that this show ends soon because it desperately needs to.

This "comedy" show is just not funny anymore
MichaelMacGregor22 November 2022
What happend to once very funny, witty, innovative & sharp Family Guy?

I loved this show so much. But not anymore.

The last few seasons have been borderline unwatchable, while the current one is just horrible: not funny, not innovative, not sharp anymore. Sharp punchlines & stories are just not there anymore. There's no dark humor there anymore whatsoever. We've been left with extremely lame "jokes".

What happened to Seth MacFarlane & his team of writers? All the trademarks of once great show - the trademarks that made the show great - are gone. This not a comedy show anymore. It's morphing more into an animated drama series. So weird.

For me, a Gen X guy, this show has lost all the appeal after so many great seasons. Today it's lame, it's tame, it's not funny, it's too PC, even too preachy sometimes. I guess it's a generational matter & issue. So sad. I just can watch the show anymore. I'm done with it. Goodbye, Family Guy! You'll be missed.

How is this funny to begin with?
mikesundae21 November 2022
I've personally gave this season of Family Guy way more of a chance than it deserves, since I thought it was alright before this garbage episode aired (aside from the horrible season premiere). I've known a little bit about the plot through the synopsis before it aired, but it was just really abysmal after I watched it. I swear to anything that Fox is giving the show way too much credit, since it'll give the producers any amount of money to keep it alive. The way they keep doing that is like some poor person who went through a terrible accident and is currently on life support.

Onto the episode, it was pretty weak. While Stewie happened to be excited into seeing a former Jolly Farm actress as a superstar, it did not go well once him and Brian got to the concert. For some dumbfounded reason after Stewie sent a tweet to MEBR as to reference her previous role in Jolly Farm, she decided to have her fans harass him constantly for a mere " oink oink pig" tweet. Making it clear that the writers don't care about making anything in terms of quality anymore and would rather become a generic animated sitcom for its social commentary. I don't blame them for going this route, since Fox thinks that this show is still a gem for many viewers. Even though most of their fans quit watching this show a long time ago.

On the B-plot, they decided to have Peter get his weight surgically removed so that he could spend more time with Chris. This... turned out to be disgusting since all of the excess skin is just there and part of the "joke". I couldn't find it entertaining since it's just filler for the remaining parts of the episode. By the end of the episode, they just continued to peddle on Stewie and nothing has been resolved since we're supposed to laugh at the writers' take on stan culture.

Overall, I think this episode is just abysmal. I know what I'm asking for this show is way too much, since the writing team gave up not long ago. However, I just want this show to be mildly entertaining so it won't be a mess. Especially if it's going to be renewed for lord knows how long.

Painfully unfunny!
Devil99624 November 2022
I swear this was a disaster... What happened here? Even voiceovers are awful, Dr Hartman sounded like a Stan from American Dad in few lines that he said. I can't believe what show runners allowed to happen.... Is there any quality control, do they watch the episode before they say "ok we are done with this one, let's start working on other episode", I don't think so!

Set MacFarlane needs to comeback to the writing seat if he wants this show to continue!!!

This season wasn as bad as season 17, but it wasn't like seasons 18-20 either, they weren't great but they weren't bad. This season has it's great moments but this episode and the season premiere were the worst episodes in years.

Unfunny jokes that are then explained in detail, which makes them even more unfunny
tomsly-4001529 February 2024
The golden era of Family Guy is long gone - as is that of The Simpsons. That is the general consensus. Why both series are still running will probably remain a mystery forever, because neither of them is funny anymore nor do they have the original charm.

At this point I don't know whether it's the viewers who are becoming more and more stupid or the authors who can't think of anything new and lack the courage to write socially critical or just over-the-top humorous episodes. Since the cancel culture today creates shitstorms for any behavior that is not socially desirable (e.g. When Indian CARTOON characters are not spoken by Indians), the jokes today are mostly shallow and unfunny.

In Family Guy, every seemingly funny scene now has to be explained. Like in this episode. The singer interrupts her show to check her social media feeds on her smartphone. But of course it's no longer enough to simply show that, no, she also has to comment that she interrupts her show to check her social media feeds on her smartphone. Or Stewie's sermon that young people today blindly follow their idols and no longer have their own opinions. Yes, you saw that after the whole fan mob bullied Stewie on social media. Is it too much to ask today that the viewer understands the social criticism when he sees these scenes? Why does this have to be explained in detail?

Family Guy has really gotten to the point where an unfunny joke is shown and then explained in detail once or even several times. So that everyone understands that it was just a joke. Basically, this is a continuation of the clapping and cheering tape recordings that are played in sitcoms so that even the stupidest viewer can tell that a joke has just been told.

The whole plot, which revolves around Peter's gastric band operation, is just ONE joke that drags on forever. Yes, we get it, his excess skin now hangs off him like an oversized piece of clothing. It's pretty cheap to fill half a show with it and then turn it into a kite punch line at the end.
