Predictable and Intriguing at the same time
sonya-bria17 October 2012
While tonight's episode "Honor Thy Father" was predictable about the fate of the bad guys, there were a few elements that hooked me as a viewer enough to DVR the next episode. First, I am really enjoying the dynamic between Oliver and his bodyguard. I hope that the writers continue to develop that relationship because let's face it, Oliver needs a friend/mentor. Second, I like the set up of flashbacks to the island and getting a peek into what really happened during those 5 years. Let's just say, tonight left me saying, "What?!" Lastly, I am holding out to find out what type of role John Barrowman will be playing in episode five. I think he is such a fantastic actor that he will add another layer of depth to the interactions between characters. With all of that said, some of the action and plot development is pretty predictable, but I think the back story of the 5 years on the island and the secrets his father told him will keep it interesting. Hopefully, it will continue. I really would like to see this series get a second season!

A great continuation of the pilot episode
Honor Thy Father is another great episode and continues the pilot episode with great intentions. The character interactions were neat and it's great to see Oliver Queen struggling with his relationships with his family and other people including Laurel and John Diggle. Also the dynamics between Oliver and John were superbly written with Stephen Amell and David Ramsey bringing solid chemistry.

The writing continues to be strong with its blend of mystery drama and action. Also, the flashbacks were very cool too and leaves you wanting more about what would happen to Oliver in Lian Yu Island. My only quibble on this episode is that while the villain China White was well introduced, her fate felt really predictable.

Overall, Honor Thy Father is another great episode and continues the pilot episode nicely. Thumbs up. :)

Respecting one's father for the last time is a big deal.

Arrow Season 1 Episode 2

Review : This episode is the second episode of this season. Speaking of this episode, I have to say that there is an emotional issue in this episode. In a remote area, completing one's father's funeral, burying one's father in the mountains is very difficult. This episode is very sad emotionally. I look forward to watching the next episode.

When I review episodes, that review is based entirely on my own personal ideas. Seeing the episodes of any season of any series, I think I write it in the review. I know, maybe in my reviews I often write something bad, like the writers didn't write the story well or the director didn't do well or the actors-actresses over-acted. But I don't use foul language or profanity in my reviews. If I unknowingly hurt someone in my review or if someone feels bad after reading my review, then I sincerely apologize to him.

I thank you for reading my review so patiently.

Honor Thy Father

Warning: Spoilers
You might suspect the new company head Walter Steele to be up to no good. After all he has married Oliver's mother.

However it is his mother who had something to do with the shipwreck and sent some goons in the first episode to attack Oliver. Just in case he knows something.

His ex girlfriend Laurel is a legal crusader and want to take businessman Martin Somers to court. A name that is on Oliver's list. However Somers has links with the Chinese Triad and soon Laurel finds herself in danger.

Oliver reprises his carefree drunk persona in order to separate him from the vengeful The Hood.

Obviously Arrow wants to have an arc instead of just a generic story of the week approach. Here the DC character of China White is introduced as a villain who is sent by the Triad. Oliver has a bodyguard John Diggle hired by his mother to supposedly protect her son. Now Oliver needs to get away from his minder if The Hood is supposed to save the city.

We also find out more as to what happen to Oliver at the island in flashbacks and how he might have become an ace archer.

Second go round

Warning: Spoilers
The best part of this one was the ending when I got to see that his mom had something to do with his dad's death. A tiny shred of interesting but all to predictable. The little book he has with a list of people his "dad" told him to go after Really? Oh to find out his best friend was sleeping with ex? SHOCKER RIGHT?! Let's not tell him even though he was sleeping with his ex's sister who died on the boat?!! It would seem that would have been the first thing she said to him when she saw him just to hurt him! Not to mention she went from hating him to opening the door for him with no problem the first time he stops by! Wow this show is bad. I'll give it one more try..
